Great Britain, holds the history of once being the most powerful nation in the world. Although this status has long since passed, there are few areas of the country where evidence of this former glory are absent. Relics of an industrial past dot the landscape, and expansive stately homes display the profits reaped both at home and abroad.

Although famed for it's rain, the British climate is temperate, with mild winters and pleasant summers. The British countryside offers a taste of both the quaint and the unkempt, and provides opportunities for various outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing and pot-holing.

Britain's cities are vibrant and exciting, with long and diverse histories of development, historic buildings and stunning modern architecture.

Here are the photos that I have been promising for quite awhile! Sorry it's taken me so long. For those of you who get emails when I publish, the website has been giving me some trouble. So you might have received several emails for postings that do not exist. I apologize! Celebrating Thanksgiving in another country is always interesting. Of course, we don't get that day off, even when working for a US company! So, I was in Leicester the week of Thanksgiving. However, my brother and sister-in-law decided to host a dinner on Saturday afternoon, which was great. My sister and I headed over during the morning and had a chance to hang out and play with the nephews. I also tried to take a few family photos of them, but I'm not sure how many of them are usable since the almost 4 year old wasn't in the mood to [View Full Entry]

25, November 7:45 am Today’s the start of Turkey Break! However, its 7:45 am and we’ve already encountered some problems. The morning began smoothly with the taxi arriving early, got to ElWe y in about 20 minutes and the rise cost less than 30 quid. We even ended up being 40 minutes early for our train, which for me is really good. We finally got settled onto out train when the announcement that a fallen trees was blocking the tracks and we would have to switch trains immediately if we wanted to be on time for London. A fallen tree, man-o-man! [View Full Entry]

I'm writing this exactly three weeks before we are due to leave the familiar chilly climate of Sheffield. Just so you know, we are very excited! Lots of things are coming to an end now including jobs, gym contracts, car insurances etc and it seems a little strange realising how tied down/into things you actually are. FYI: companies do not like letting you out of said contracts early or for free! Anyway, jabs are done, flat is (almost) packed and we have 9 working days left. Wow... [View Full Entry]

Nellie's busy in the UK at the moment planning the trip for January 2010 to Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Today, Irene's lifelong friend Floss and Monk were due to attend the 'Light Up A Life' ceremony at the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher, Surrey where a light on the Christmas tree was to be dedicated in memory of Irene. Unfortunately, the recent rain had made the whole area so boggy that the event had to be cancelled. Floss and Monk had lunch together instead at Cafe Prov in Herne Hill and they shed a few tears at 16:30 when the [View Full Entry]

The Princess Alice Christmas Tree

Well here it is...four days until I leave the UK. It has suddenly come around so quickly. Work is all finished up (yet again), my car has been sold, most of my belongings have been packed up (and stored under Jon's bed...possibly for eternity?). Goodbyes have been started to be said. It will be sad to leave 31 St. Albans Street, Sherwood, Nottingham. Not only has it been a home away from home over the last 6 months or so, but it has also been a place where many good friendships have been formed....and many great times had. A lot of [View Full Entry]

So here we are, the final blog. I am safely back in England and on the journey back I put some thoughts together and here they are 3 MONTHS ON THE ROAD: A REFLECTION These 90 or days or so I've spent have been easily the most exhilarating of my life. Every day has been memorable. Unlike before when too many days blurred into one every day here was different. I could probably recollect all 87 days in good detail and get pretty much all the information right. How many can say that they can remember what they did on each [View Full Entry]

So its Saturday 16th May 2009 and today is the day we fly out. Walking through the airport was an experience within itself, the silence was eary but strangely relaxing. The previous night we had completed our on-line check in, which left us with only our luggage to hand over. Next stop was Airport security. After 9-11 i knew it would be quite tough however having the hundreds of Airport workers strip me of my shoes and personal belongings was like being marched through a military camp to my death. Finally we arrived through the other side AKA Airside where i [View Full Entry]

Having been introduced to Daddy's side of the family, last weekend it was time for J to meet some more of Mummy's family. He did lots of reading with Great Nanny & Great Aunty Lou, lots of cuddling with his little cousin (admittedly she was more enthusiastic than him)! He went for a ride on Dylan the Dog (until Dylan got away from him), learnt all about beards and was generally spoilt rotten by everyone! Then on the flight on the way home he sang his 'ow-ow' song at the top of his voice for the whole plane to enjoy (we [View Full Entry]
