Adrianne's fun fact of the day: If you hit the button labelled "subscribe", you will be sent an email that tells you I've updated my blog. It's easy, it's convenient, it saves you the hassle of constantly refreshing my page. And now back to your regularly scheduled programme: So Day Three was somewhat less eventful than Days One and Two. We woke at the completely respectable 10 AM local time, and headed out for more city exploration. Because we are responsible people who are first and foremost concerned with our health, followed closely by goal accomplishment, we began our day with a city tour. Which we have taken like, three times. We saw the sights, caught some great views (mmm, love me some views), and learned that the Scots are a sarcastic and funny group of ... read more

Day Two Today, we awoke at the highly reasonable hour of 10 AM. Canadian time. For those of you not inclined towards math, that’s about 3 PM Scottish time. Which means I’ve already adjusted to the time difference. Mom, not so much. We got up, got dressed, and headed out to embrace the city. And by “embrace the city”, I do mean “get hopelessly lost at least once”. We attempted, with some success, to find a Scottish branch of RBC. We got directions from a fabulously moustachioed barista at a Starbucks (whose menu was incredibly foreign to me, much to my dismay), who pointed us in the direction of Canning Gate. There was some confusion on both parts because we weren’t looking for Canning Gate, we were looking for Canning Street. It appears that there are ... read more

Below are two "poems" I wrote whilst sitting on the plane, attempting to avoid small talk with the woman next to me who was most definitely not my mother. I think they are going to be very influential. Both are quite ground breaking. A Reflection on Airline Tea Oh tea, You are overly milked, And not uniformly sweet, You are a lie wrapped in Styrofoam. You are not nearly caffeinated enough to make your false promises worth the effort it takes to consume you. How I wish there was more of you. Despite your hideous nature, You are the only sustenance I am currently awake enough to intake. I need a tea at least four times your size. Sucks to be you because I packed really good tea in my checked baggage. Sucks to be me ... read more

So we landed, got through customs with a limited amount of struggle (protip: If you’re an overseas student, bring your CAS with you everywhere. The Scots love their paperwork), found our luggage, and hopped in a cab to our hotel. Our cabbie was a lovely fellow who was full of good advice about what to see and where to go. Apparently, he does day trips and if we are interested, we can call him up and he’ll create a tour for us. Nice dude. He drove J.K. Rowling home once. Apparently, her husband is lovely. Anyway, he drops us off, helps offload our luggage, then leaves us to it. So we go inside and there are two flights of stairs to get to the lobby. Not huge flights, but still. Our bags are 50 pounds each, ... read more

What up readers? So this blog comes live from the airplane. Okay, not really live. And probably not from the plane either. Shush, it’s my blog, I can say what I want. Anyway, I am currently two hours away from the illustrious city in which I hope to reside for at least the next four months. (Mom, Dad, I’m totally kidding. I’ll be here for the full duration of my program if I have anything to say about it.) It is one in the morning Toronto time and six in the morning Edinburgh time. I was drifting in the sweet realms of unconsciousness about ten minutes ago and had been for about an hour when the stupid airline makes an announcement that they are serving breakfast. AT ONE IN THE MORNING. If I were sure my ... read more

Wednesday August 7th—We have some options today kids….“I am bored out of palaces!”- Becca “I am out of order for castles!”-Gabe So, with those comments we opted for Edinburgh. We started the afternoon with a Park and Ride bus trip over the bridge into city center. Then went to a local grocery store and bought a picnic lunch. Found a lovely sunny spot to eat in a pleasant park along the Royal mile, where “Bee”cca and Ga“bee” beefriended a bee (that turned into an abundance of bees!) who buzzed and bit bits of turkey (which Becca said after tasted as though it was honey roasted). After lunch we made our way to the Scottish National Gallery where Greg and Ben looked around and Mama, Becca and Gabe spend an hour or so creating art! Then off ... read more

Geo: 55.9503, -3.18761 2 blogs today (maybe – it's getting late, and we're exhausted). We got in too late last night to send anything out. We left the Highlands today. Back past Ben Nevis and the gorgeous and wild Highland mountains and glens. We're on our way to Edinburgh for the Military Tattoo – no we're not getting ink. It's a spectacle of music and dance with the Edinburgh Castle in the background. There are performances by military bagpipe and drum bands, Scottish dancers, and other groups from around the world. This year performance included groups from South Korea, Mexico, Mongolia and New Zealand. Incredible! On the way we stopped at the Falkirk Wheel. This is a one of a kind rotating boat lift, joining the top canal with the bottom one (100' feet apart) without ... read more

Day 91 – Edinburgh Ahhh… sleep-in, I’ll take them when I can get them. Once we were up we headed back to the graveyard to find the Harry Potter character tombstones. I found Tom Riddle, McGonegall, Moody, Baird and Potter. The caretaker of the church came over and had a chat with us for quite a while. He was lovely and gave us some info about J. K. Rowling who he walks through the grounds with once every year when she comes back to visit. Good ole Wallace Ferguson. He was full of additional info too about Scotland and the church. He gave us great tips for free city views and where to go for dinner too. Next up we checked out these views Wallace mentioned and we came across a shop for tall ... read more
