Today is another early morning start for me. I could not afford to miss my train to Edinburgh, Scotland. I bought the discount ticket for 17 GBP while last minute ticket can cost over 100 GBP. The train was okay, with power plugs and all - but it didn't have the entertainment system like my train to Bath several days ago. The 5 hours train ride doesn't seem that long and before I knew it, I'm getting out of the train already. I was so happy to be greeted by yet another blue winter sky! I knew that this is rare and mostly doesn't last long so I started snapping my camera while pulling my luggage with the other hand. Well that's the beauty of packing light, you still somewhat mobile. I almost jumped when someone ... read more

I really haven't adjusted to the time change at all. Last night, I didn't fall asleep until 3am, and I woke up at 2pm. Andrew and I were left with about two hours of daylight. We went to Old Town to try to do the Real Mary King's Close tour. It came highly recommended on Trip Advisor and from the owner of our bed and breakfast. Unfortunately, they were sold out for the rest of the day. We strolled along the Royal Mile instead and then went back to the Christmas Festival at the Princes Street Gardens. In the morning, we're getting up early to catch the Airlink 100 to the airport. I've really enjoyed Edinburgh. It's a beautiful city that's easy to navigate. It's perfect for getting around on foot. Things aren't all that expensive, ... read more

Today is St Andrew's Day! St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, and we so happen to be here on this holiday. Castles and cathedrals don't charge admission today, and so we took the opportunity to check out the sights. Admission is normally £14.50 a pop, so Saint Andrew saved us a pretty penny. We cut through the Princes Street Gardens into Old Town and followed the Royal Mile up to Edinburgh Castle. I say "up" because the walk up to the castle is very steep. First, the castle is on top of an old volcano, giving it good height that I'm sure made it an ideal location for a fortress. Second, people have occupied that area for 3,000 years, and the road designs that were developed are very old. Andrew joked, "I don't think ... read more

We booked a murder mystery tour through Witchery Tours. We were to meet in front of the Witchery restuarant, near the castle, at 7pm. Our route took us through the Princes Street Gardens, where we grabbed another Toastie from the German Christmas Market for dinner. The air was dense and wet, and it started to rain. Not wanting to be late, we arrived at the Witchery entirely too early and sat outside in the cold and wet for a while. Across the street, we watched a line (or "queue," as it were) form. This wasn't just any line. The line wound from the castle above us down the streets below and out of sight. Literally, the line was over a mile long. I asked a woman what people were queueing for, and she explained to me ... read more

There I was, 10am Saturday morning. Exhausted from the red-eye journey, I began primping and puckering in the watermarked mirror of the hostel bathroom. I changed focus in the reflection to see a mildly disheveled young lady approaching through the door. The calm on her face rapidly turned to panic. Then to fear. Then BLEEGGGHHH. Projectile vomit. I narrowly Matrix-dodged the stream (see video. there's no vomitting in it.) and avoided being drenched in the mixture of hostel brekkie and whisky shots from the previous night's shenanigans. Wait for it. Wait for it Go. I mean if that's not a warm welcome to Edinburgh, I don't know what is! Luckily, the rest of the weekend was good, clean, vomit-free fun. This was my first visit to the UK and I'm really looking forward to exploring more ... read more

Do I have your attention now? Apparently my top visited blog post is the one titled "The men here are beautiful." So I am going to stick with what's popular and mention beautiful/hot/dreamy/-insert adjective of choice here- men at least once in each post. You're welcome. Top 10 Reasons Why I Like Scotland More Than England: 10) They have real, normal water available rather than the gross sparkling water that is sold in England. 9) When giving directions, people actually give you correct time estimates. In London, everywhere was just a "5 minutes walk"... and then you were still walking 30 minutes later. 8) People walk slower. On the tubes in London, when someone wants to get off at the next stop, they yell "Excuse Me!" even if there is no one blocking their way... it's ... read more

With Edinburgh. Hard. I liked London but we just didn't have that chemistry, you know? He was dirty and hard to read and was always leading me on to new and exciting adventures but then leaving me in the cold. Kind of a jerk. But Edinburgh--such a gentleman. He made me feel so welcome. True love. The train ride from Dover was very long but I got to see the entire countryside. England is super flat and makes me miss my Utah mountains, but still very pretty. Getting closer to Scotland the train passes right by the water and the sun was just starting to set so it was gorgeous outside. There are still some fall leaves here and its definitely colder here than in London. I got to Edinburgh and got a taxi and chatted ... read more
