Day 394 We set off after work to Vicky's (our landlady/house mate) to her mum's house in Malvern (voted the one of the most beautiful and picturesque countryside of England. With a quick stop at Worscester for a pic of the cathedral glistening under a near full moon, we arrived at her mothers beautiful English house filled with traditional furniture, hundreds of tea cups and the most amazing dolls house I'd ever seen (It could have kept Carly entertained for hours) unfortunately it was time for bed! Day 395 After a much needed sleep in we cooked ourselves a traditional English breaky (well almost minus the black pudding and sausage) and set off up the Malvern hills with the dogs. (As we were dog sitting Vicky´s dog Tash and her mums dog Pippen for the day). ... read more

25 April 2009 Our intention was to have left at the beginning of April on a two month trip with the van to Greece. Unfortunately while we were away skiing in January Wendy fell over a snowy kerb while crossing a road carrying her skis and broke her leg. Thankfully the break is now healed and we are leaving tomorrow for a seven week tour around Germany. We have chosen Germany because we have driven through the country several times on our way to somewhere else and always said we should find an opportunity to visit properly. This seemed as good a time as any. We plan to start by working our way down the Rhine, go south to Lake Constance and come back on the east side of the country, visiting Berlin and the Baltic ... read more

05 - 07 April 2009 We had two nights with Ruth during which I had a lovely walk with her dog and we had a very enjoyable iChat video talk with her son James and his wife Bobbie who live in the USA and were on holiday in the Bahamas. On the way home we stayed overnight with Emma, Sam and the boys who were trying out there new tent at Brean just north of Burnham on Sea. I think they found camping at this time of the year quite cold, particularly with the wind blowing off the Bristol Channel. This very enjoyable week has shown us that there is an awful lot of the U.K. that we need to make time to see. ... read more

I've been back in England for almost 3 weeks now (which by the way have gone extremely quickly considering that I have done nothing!) and I had to write another blog to talk about my time in Cape Town and round things off. I arrived in Cape Town with Ellie and we spent our first day exploring the area we were staying in (Long Street, the centre of Cape Town CBD) and we met up with Caz and Karl, 2 lovely people we had travelled part of the Garden Route with. Karl and I went to the castle in Cape Town for a little nosy around, then we all watched the England vs South Africa rugby game at one of the many bars on Long Street! Luckily South Africa won, as Ellie might have caused a ... read more

Since we arrived home from Italy in late May, we used the van for a couple of holidays and an overnight stop. In early July we spent a very enjoyable 10 days in Scotland visiting friends, mostly from the Cave and Crag Club. We saw the Fishers in Grantown-on-Spey, the Thompsons in Stonehaven, The Hogans in Rait outside Perth, the Smiths in Blairadam ( we gate crashed June’s retirement party) and the Paveys in St Fillans. Thank you everyone for your very generous hospitality. We broke the journey both ways on Camping and Caravan Club sites. On the way up at Moffat and on the way home at Culzean. Both were in excellent positions. For the first two weeks in August we had our usual visit to Treago Farm, Crantock, Cornwall with Emma, Sam and the ... read more

After taking so many pictures (OVER 1400), just a few to give you a feel of what Canada & Alaska is about. I have tried to place the photos in an approximate order of the places that we visited. The whales were a definite highlight of holiday, especially the humpbacks breaching in the bay off Juneau. There were so many places to see and it was great that we were on an organised tour. Our guide Jenni and the coach driver Lorne were a good double act and made some of the transfers between locations more interesting than just a coach trip. ... read more

This is just a test message so that I can work out how to do everything. It's just over 5 week until leave for my 4 month trip accross the USA, Japan and South East Asia. Just about everything is sorted now, just got to get visa's for Thailand and Vietnam and try and get a nationwide accout open so that I can get money from ATM's without being charged a fee. I was originally hoping to leave the USA totally unplanned and just wonder around as I felt like it, but it's just became too hard to sit at work and not plan it. Next time I write on this blog, I should be on my way to New York. Not that it's got anything to do with the rest of the blog, I've added ... read more

Hey all, To start with I thought I would explain the logic of doing this travel diary/blog/confessional. I'm going to be away for 6 weeks and I'll probably be coming across a computer once every two days. I really don't want to have to e-mail everyone that I know saying what I've been up to, plus attach photos to each photo. It's much easier to stick them all on one page to be viewed by all, and you can follow me in everything Iam experiencing, uncensored (mostly) and uncut. Now I've got that over with I can explain in brief what it is I'll be doing over in Thailand. For the first three weeks will be volunteer work in the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project on the beautiful island of Phuket, southern Thailand. It won't be near the ... read more

That's it! We are home and reunited with the dogs. A great trip and it's going to be a bit of a shock having to actually do something rather than being continually waited on. A very stress free, relaxing and worthwhile time. Thanks to those of you who followed our trip, and particularly to those that posted us a message. It's been fun.... read more
