Back in the icy UK. Flights all went as smoothly as can be expected. All still in one piece this end. Wonder how much longer this particular beautiful corner of the south west will be classed as home? Not long me thinks. Thanks for following me on the latest set of trails. Now to have a chat with my brain and see if I can work out which time zone we think we're in...it's either 10am or 11pm but not sure it feels like either and not sure it makes a difference either way really...... read more

It made a strange change to leave Georgie behind and head off in a car for the day…. Woolly says – Ian’s Mum very kindly lent us her car and Ian took great joy in whizzing round the small lanes of Somerset while Jo and I turned a mild green colour, we were very grateful to arrive at Dunster Castle in one piece. Feeling a bit peckish we took the short walk into the town centre and settled down in The Castle Coffee house, ordering a full breakfast each, I crunched away on Jo’s toast while we split the paper between us all (I do enjoy a bit of celebrity gossip!). Fully sated we first wandered to the old yarn market, a beautiful round building which is incredibly well preserved we then walked up to the ... read more

After a very cold night, we pulled off from our muddy pitch and set off through the Mendips…… Woolly says – A day to look forward to as I would get at least TWO places ticked off in my I Spy book!!! We (well Ian and Jo) had dug out the old Sat Nav and had decided to run Sat and Tom Tom together to see how accurate Tom actually is! This caused me great amusement throughout the day as a quite demanding female voice told Ian and Georgie to turn left while the other huskier female voice begged for them to turn right, this happened quite a few times - note to Ian, check the Tom’s settings!!!! Riding upfront I was able to look at the lovely scenery as we took the roads through to ... read more

Bath will hold a special place in my heart as the one where my loved one travels with me for the first time (together with my friends) in the UK, and celebrating my birthday in the city. A surprise ‘parcel’, who arrived in Loughborough where I’m studying, she gave me a huge surprise turning up at my place (after colluding with friends) and even better, joining us on this trip to Bath. And so, after a few train rides, we arrived at the city, which gives us a different vibe from those we’ve been to thus far. “Just a different feeling” was the common acknowledgement of our first impression. As we checked into the hostel, we took our time wandering around, searching for the well-known Sally Lunn Bun first. Didn’t get to try it though, as ... read more

Well, we have started training and it could be going better. We've had a couple of walks with our monthly group which have been really great. Sarah Drake, Sue Winter and myself started at The White Hart at Weston In Gordano one morning when there was still quite a lot of snow around, it was very cold. We left The White Hart and started walking across the moors towards the motorway and as we were walking, the sun started to come out and was melting some of the snow. It was quite hard going over the fields that were rutted and Sue twanged her knee. We saw lots of wildlife though which was great, there seemed to be loads of birds about. We even saw a peacock in someones garden! When we got to Caswell Lane ... read more

Back in England now. Not a relaxing holiday but a great experience. Felt as though I have been away for a lot longer that 47 days. Found out that I really enjoyed the cities. Tried to see what some hostels were like, which may have been similar to those stayed in by my children. It would have been much easier with a companion, but I was able to do what I wanted without consulting anyonw. I cannot say what the best bit was as there was so much to remember and things were memorable for different reasons. My backpack only weighed 18 kilos, but seemed a lot heavier some of the time! I enjoyed all of the walking and swimming. Added bonus? I came back 7k lighter......... read more

Long, long day of flights lands the wanderer back at heathrow. Then a drive to Surrey and a longer drive back to Clevedon leaves one rather spent. Not much sleep last night in Kathmandu due to the constant yapping and howling street-hounds. An 05:30 start, then the queues of Kathmandu airport, then efficient queues through Delhi airport and then Heathrow means my body thinks it's now 05:30 again (Kathmandu time) so I guess that's a full 24 hours of travel but I'm not confident my brain is doing the maths right at the moment so I'm going to go to bed and see if that still makes sense in the "morning". Another adventure completed. Sad to be back. Glad to be back. So looking forward to waking in my own bed in the morning. So missing ... read more
