Yet again, our choice was Discover Dorset tours to explore Bath. Their walking tours are good and their tours start from Bournemouth. Bath is famous for its Roman Baths – the hot water spring baths. We were picked up by the Discover Dorset tour mini bus at the Bournemouth station. There were already other tourists in the bus from different countries. We then headed off towards Bath. Arriving in Bath, we walked straight towards The Royal Crescent. It gets its name because of its shape. A perfect crescent with windows on its walls – a great symmetrical architecture, I must say! I wondered what those windows and doors on its wall were. Our Discover Dorset walking tour guide, Jim, told the history of the crescent. It is a row of 30 terraced houses ! After standing ... read more

Landing at Heathrow was a little late since they sent us round a couple of times before we could land. But eventually we found our luggage. Now on to our rental car; Advantage rentals doesn't have a desk at the airport and no sign telling us how to find them. The helpful person at the tourist information desk made a phone call. We made our way to a lot at the back of Hertz finding a used trailer and about 6 cars. We were able to rent a Vauxhall that isn't as small as we had ordered but it is OK. Our next adventure was driving on the other side of the road... at 60+mph... during Monday late afternoon traffic... As a good friend of mine says, HOLY CROW... It was scary as a passenger at ... read more

I've survived! 6 weeks working at the OU are over and I didn't go completely bonkers! There I was at Heathrow- the bags were pacled, the money was secured and I wasn't hungover. It felt like a good day to be alive :) Or so i thought. Ok, so the day wasn't terrible but long haul flights really drain a guy! The food was ok, the films pretty ace (The Expendables! The Shawshank Redemption!) but sleep was minimal. Tunrs out the booze on the flight was free too but no rum. No Mojito :( I was strange to think I had been to Delhi, albeit very breifly, and then I happened to find myself in Bangkok. Incidently, security at Bangkok airport is as quick and efficient as London! Bangkok is like a more modern and cleaner ... read more

And so it begins. My attempt to stave off the real world for as long as possible. The last few days working in Bath for the OU have been a blurry panic of packing and vodka. Mostly vodka. In fact I've done no packing but panic buying things to try to teach kids. I guess this is a good time to introduce what I'm doing. This is my story. Back in the heady days of October 2011 (what does heady even mean??) I decided that I hadn't made the best use of University opportunities (UNAY UNAY). 2 months later I had applied and succefully obtained a place on DUCK's expedition to Cambodia. Originally, it was Jordan I had aspired to travel to but that clashed with graduation. Graduation is a whole other story, suffice to say ... read more

Today, we visited Wells & Bath. In Wells, the famous Wells Cathedral was advised to visited. Bath is known about it Roman Baths. The old Romans build a whole temple complex around a geothermal spring. So, this day was full of (historical) culture. Around 9 am we left with the bus to Wells. Wells, is the smallest city (not a town!) in England, but also famous about its Cathedral. This cathedral is ornate with 300 sculptress, whereas 150 of them are life-size. The building of this cathedral started in 1175. However, historians think that at the year of 705 another church stood on this place. And the entrance was free, however a photo permit was 3 pounds. We bought one. Again, this cathedral was big, and similar "gothic" building. We took the stairs "Chapter House Steps" ... read more

Wed 4th Set off from London along the A25, my preferred route, so much prettier than the M25 with towns strewn with charity shps and cafes. This takes so long that i have to get back on the motorway to get to Southampton in time. I meet a friend for a meal at Shamrock Quay, then find a campsite on the way to Salisbury. It looks rural and faces a lovely evening sky, but is audibly close to the M27. Thurs 5th The morning was sunny enough to have me sitting in the field finishing yesterday's paper. The soap opera that is Barclay's Bank Libor scandal sends me to but today's instalment which I raed in a cafe in Salisbury. I hope i pick up the culture by osmosis, all I saw of the town was ... read more
