It's Saturday and it is the end of a very long week. A very hard, demanding and study-packed week. I enrolled a CELTA course in Earl's Court which is an intensive Mon-Fri 9.30am - 5pm course designed mainly to train English native speakers who wish to enhance their job prospects as EFL teachers abroad. CELTA stands for 'Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults' and the trainees get a Pass/Fail mark, according to their overall performance. The course is very hands-on which means we basically go through the theory by doing loads of activities and putting ourselves in the students' shoes. The name of the school is LANGUAGE LINK and I decided to sign up for the course running here after doing some research on the Internet and reading some reviews on... read more

Sorry everyone, Take 3 with our London adventure! Some photos from England in the previous blog (the Blog with Paris text and London photos- oops!) Below is Alex's account of our week in London, with Mum typing! Using a western European keyboard, so please bare with me!! Friday We walked to Tower Bridge beside the Thames river. We walked past the Tower of London (where they they keep the crown jewels). Tower bridge is a bridge that opens up to let big ships sail up the Thames river. We climbed one the towers to the top and learnt about different bridges and how they are built. Different bridges include arch bridge, suspension bridge. We then walked down the other tower and down to the engine room where the big engines lift the bridge up and I ... read more

We have spent an amazing 2 days in Paris! A cruise of the river seine and a double-decker bus tour of the city. The people were lovely and most spoke some English. Our hotel was cozy and actually quite quaint in true Parisian style. We saw all the sites. Eiffel tower was a true highlight! Stunning! We are currently at the airport in Paris, waiting to check in for our flight to Ljubljana. Parisians have been most hospitable and girls (mia and sienna) even told how beautiful they are! Alex and I typed for about an hour and a half a couple of days ago and for the life of me I can't seem to publish it! If I work it out, you will enjoy alex's account of our london stay, otherwise I will park myself ... read more

Hi again, Yesterday was spent travelling to and from Gidea Park - about 20 Miles out from London via tube, tube and national line train - not much to see on our travels but a pleasant trip to see John's aunty Gladys. We arrived at Gidea Park and bought some flowers to take to his aunty whom he hadn't seen for about 15 years. The florist was lovely and was able to show us on her computer where to go and printed out the simple directions. When we arrived at her complex everyone knew her nephew was coming to visit from Australia!! No secrets there. A welcoming committee too - with her friend, Alf, and a couple around our ages there to meet us. What a lovely and gracious lady she is, on the ball and ... read more

Hello everyone, Well a couple of days ago we arrived in London from Brunei - absolutely exhausted after a 13 hour flight but couldn't get into our room until the afternoon so left our luggage there and took off for the day. First we discovered where the trains and tubes were but ended up catching a tourist bus & away we went to the famous Madame Tussauds - no wonder it's famous, even though we had bought our tickets and were assured we could walk straight in..... it took over an hour - standing out in the hot sun waiting to get in!! Have had photos taken with many famous people. Quite an interesting place as you can imagine. Poor George had trouble keeping his hands off me... had to hold them down for the photo. ... read more

We finally arrived safely in London. Gee we really do live a long way away! Kids travelled brilliantly! We were so proud of them. They slept, ate, watched movies, played video games, coloured in and chatted! We are all exhausted though and looking toward to sleeping in beds and not in uncomfortable seats! We spent the evening, Thursday, with Marie (dame's sister) and a special bbq dinner together! Kids were so excited to see their auntie they nearly bowled her over in the foyer of our hotel! It really is fab to see her! We are staying at a hotel, just 10 mins from her house so we can see her after work when she goes back next week! Tomorrow we set out to see the sites of London! Marie and her partner hamish have taken ... read more

Wednesday 30 June Yesterday morning we awoke to the first rain of our trip thus far. However it didn’t last for too long and by the time Stacey and Rhys arrived at Earl’s Court to meet us, the skies were almost clear and our plans for a visit to the Adventure Playground at Holland Park were not disrupted. After the hugs and kisses and introductions to and amongst the boys, we walked up Earl’s Court Road to the park. We worked out that we had last seen Stacey ten years ago when she was in Australia for the year she spent studying in Melbourne. That was in 2000, the year we arrived in Sydney and Greg was born, so no wonder my recollections of seeing Stacey that year are a bit vague. As we walked we ... read more

Friday 25 June Our final day in Israel was another interesting and educational one. We made a fairly late start (which seems to happen whenever we don’t have something booked in for a set time) and went on a fairly long drive to Rechovot, to visit the Ayalon Institute on Kibbutzim Hill. When we arrived we were told that we did need to book a tour, and that there was an English one starting 45 minutes later, which we could attend. We rushed off to look for a place for a quick bite, so that we wouldn’t have to worry about lunch afterwards. We found a burger bar not too far away and shared two burger meals between us. In Israel the portions are so huge that we have not once ordered us each our own ... read more
