pink mona - Mona Serban

Mona Serban This blog is an account of my travels, my experiences abroad, starting with Turkey in 2004, straight after graduating from university, my teaching internship in Colombia for a whole year and my 2 years spent in London which gave me the amazing opportunity to travel to Belgium, France and Spain. I'm back in Romania for a little while before taking off again. A passion for travelling, writing and taking pictures are a good enough reason to carry on with my blog.

Enjoy and hit me back with your thoughts!!

GREAT JOB, EVERYBODY!! Europe » Romania » Muntenia » Arges » PITESTI
The end of an amazing experience. It has been absolutely incredible to see young and middle-aged people trying their best and making the most of the intensive course I offered at the Central Library here in Pitesti. Everybody was friendly, pro-active and very studious. They seemed to really enjoy themselves on the course and it was a delight to run this training for a month. Learning and developing new skills has no boundaries, no age limit and it is definitively an on-going process. Lovely to see people eager and interested to learn no matter what age they are, their background or [View Full Entry]

A while ago I cooked up a great plan to keep myself busy and active and at the same time do something that feels good and worthwhile. The idea of 'volunteer work' is unfortunately unknown in my country. I was lucky enough to work in a country where 'volunteer work ' is a job in itself ; where people are dedicated and eager to do volunteer work, where the little spare time you get, you go down to a 'Cancer Research' center or any other non-for-profit association and you offer a bit of your time, skills or knowledge to help others. I LOVE GREEN!! Europe » Romania » Muntenia » Dambovita » Gaesti
Everything around me is GREEN!! I LOVE GREEN!!! It is summer and everything around me is green. It's good to be alive and to enjoy nature and life with the loved-ones. To enjoy the blue sky, the simple life and the outdoors. That is of course, til weekend ends and I hop in my car and head back to Pitesti. Where things are not green, where it is boiling hot and there's no shade to offer you shelter, where the horrendous traffic gives me splitting headaches, where everyone, without exception is in a hurry and where it is a lot of work [View Full Entry]

My parents live in a small town and I visit them frequently. I grew up here. I remember how badly I wanted to escape this small town and couldn't wait to get out of high-school so I could move to a big city and feel free. I thought freedom meant leaving this little town. Now, after so may years, I love coming back here. I simply love it. It's true when they say 'There's no other place like home'. It's so quiet and peaceful, my folks have a nice patio behind the house, and they're also trying to put together a [View Full Entry]

Party time ban Europe » Romania » Muntenia » Arges » PITESTI
If you feel in a mood to party just make sure you get into that particular 'Let's have a wild crazy time' mood ONLY at the weekend!! To be more specific, Friday or Saturday night. That is, if you find yourself in our lovely city Pitesti. I LOVE Pitesti. Don't get me wrong! I love my city! Apart from providing us with very few work placements, grotesque Customers Service in all public and private sectors ( a sad story that is in fact spread all over lovely Romania), no running water for countless days (sometimes weeks!!) and a few other mishaps, [View Full Entry]

Costinesti Europe » Romania » Dobrogea » Marea Neagra » Costinesti
Hello everybody!! I just came back from a LOVELY holiday in Costinesti. Together with a bunch of friends we headed to the beach on Friday night, taking the motorway to Constanta. Although 3am, it proved to be extremely busy, as lots of people where aiming for the beach at that time. We had a few pit stops along the way, for a wee and a fag and finally made it to Costinesti early morning. Unpacked and went straight to the beach. I'm really proud to say I've accomplished my mission, as I primarily went to the seaside to build up a [View Full Entry]

What chances have I got? Unemployment rates are low world-over. It's recession. Jobs are axed, people laid off, exceptional employees made redundant. People lose homes and are unsure about tomorrow. It's only the beginning and the worst is yet to come. We haven't hit rock bottom yet and we don't know how long this recession is going to take. But this is not unfortunatelly the only disturbing problem I'm facing back home in Romania. I am in a state of shock. I am bewildered, confused and disgusted. I never imagined coming back to Romania at the age of 29, with an [View Full Entry]

We've established a long time ago that my blog includes, amongst other things, silly thoughts and ideas that I come up with every now and again. I can't really pinpoint the exact moment when 'Boyfriend Reference' first crossed my mind, but it happened as I was watching some music videos this morning. I was - for some weird reason- going through the list of boy-friends that are part of my brilliant past and was thinking if any of them would ever give me a good reference for further applications,mmr... I mean further relationships.. Just as you ask for credentials from a [View Full Entry]

I didn't really realize how much I've actually missed England. LONDON. I never thought I would. But strolling randomly today on the beautiful streets of Highgate, it actually hit me how much I have indeed missed so many silly things about London. I missed the charity shops where you can get dirt cheap books and in just over a week since I've been here, I have managed to fill up a whole suitcase that makes me worry and wonder if I'll get into trouble at Customs. I missed having a Starbucks every time I feel like having one, a Caramel Cream [View Full Entry]

The one-day trip we took to Cambridge was lots of fun despite sudden short rain showers and a cloudy sky. We had made a list of things and places we wanted to see before departing and it included the Botanic Garden which once there we decided to skip and of course, punting, which is one of Cambridge's Must-Does. We went round and entered 2 of the many Cambridge Colleges there, Saint John's College and Clare College. Anka and I were really keen on King's College which was unfortunately closed, so we had to settle with taking pictures from outside which [View Full Entry]
