Anne writing Tuesday 19 May and we decided to be very brave and tackle the underground alone, this included a change at Embankment so we could get to the Science Museum. To me it seemed more like a transport museum although we did participate in the online GM debate and James designed small blue tomatoes with lots of flavour, and ones the size of pumpkins that were tasteless. The Natural History Museum was calling out to us so back we went and "did" the red zone earthquakes and volcanoes. After a very expensive and uninspiring lunch ( my resolve to save money by packing lunches seems to have been lost) I persuaded James that the British Museum was worth a look and on the way home. We got off at Tottenham Court, we do love all ... read more

Monday morning, hosts T & S have gone off to work and there is time before James and I wander up the road to experience the delights of the Camden Markets minus the weekend crowds. So I shall now tell you of the sinking feeling one gets when the UK Customs official enquires as to your relationship to the child accompanying you. Young NZ Maori and white middle aged woman raises eyebrows and then comes a term that turns my bowels to water - Child Trafficking. I am his grandmother I protest, he and his mother live with me. So of course the mother has written a letter? Never crossed our minds, and never at any stage suggested by our National Airline, or local customs. Young James boldy speaks up, she is my grandma, I live ... read more

James writing Today I went to the Camden markets and we had lunch near the canal, I got a brazilian burger it was huge. Then we noticed a long house boat and it was a very beautiful and clean boat with nice people that own the boat. We had a chat to him about his boat and stuff then he had to get the boat through the lock and he offerd me to help him. So I pushed the lock thinking it wouldn't be so tough but I gave it a push and boy it was so so heavy. The man that owned the boat could push the boat easily but I struggled a bit but the more I progressed it got easyer. The man thought I was strong so I gave it a big heave ... read more

The Flight Over and First Days in London James and I are so pleased we had enough airpoints for the travel loumges. We were very tired and being able to relax and eat and drink , work on the computers and have the chance for a shower was wonderful. Unfortunately the showers were all booked and we got called for the flight to London fron Hong Kong so we missed out, but we enjoyed the Chinese Pork Buns and Pork Dumplings. The inflight movies and games were great. Grandma saw nine movies altogether and James saw heaps too and played lots of games as well. We arrived almost 45 minutes early at Heathrow and T wasn't even there yet, her tube train had been delayed several times so she was panicking. It was great to see ... read more

We both had a full nights sleep and a lazy start to the day. Decided to walk the 20 minutes from where we are staying to the London Zoo. James has never seen a gorilla before so we were thrilled to see them up nice and close. The zoo seems to be very animal friendly. Disappointingly we had heard about an enormous elephant park, but it is not at the London zoo you have to travel quite some distance and I don't think we will be able to go. We were pleased we didn't pay to go the butterfly house at the Natural History Museum because there is a lovely one at the zoo for no extra cost. Other highlights were a great aquarium, and lots of accesible enclosures where you walk amongst the animals with ... read more

It's precisely 14:46 on my final day at work before I leave to go on my first lonesome backpacking/travelling trip to the Far East. My first stop is Tokyo, Japan, on 2nd April & I will be returning home from Seoul, South Korea, on 2nd June. I'm excited. I'm really bloody, exceedingly, childishly excited. I've been reading wikitravel for the past 2 hours, have not stopped eating sweets, my boss is giving me the evil eye and I feel sick. It's precisely 2 hours before I go home and it feels like 2 weeks. This is my blog. My diary. My story. A tale about me and my 2 month journey of self-development. I'm writing this blog because I love stories. I want to share thess with you. I've also got a terrible memory but we'll ... read more

NB: We forgot the stupid camera when we were going to Camden so we dont really have any photo's to prove the following comments - Smic Bee Sup sup, guess who? Everyone I spoke to who has been overseas told me that my life will change forever and that I will look at everything in a different way. I was told this was the perfect opportunity to put myself to the ultimate test in many different situations. I was so excited about this I decided to set a couple of goals for myself. 1: Stress less 2: Grow up 3: Self control I suck at self control as was proved today at Camden Markets. Although, I'll quickly mention we did go to the pub last night with some Aussies and South Africans from the hostel. We ... read more

The English adults do not celebrate Halloween. Only the kids dress up, usually for school or trick-or-treating. That's it. For one night, us American's caused a ruckus and celebrated halloween. The BUNAC program rented a club and threw us Americans a halloween party. The people I work with were very interested in the fact that I was going to go out and find my halloween costume, not just rent one. Getting dressed up and getting ready with the girls in the hostel was a lot of fun. Alyse and I dressed up as "Risky Business" or Tom Cruise from Risky Business. The costume consisted of a man's dress shirt, boxers, socks, and sunglasses. It was prettty chilly outside but the costume worked well in the hot club. I loved the sunglasses as well. The Sunday after ... read more

DAY 3The Swiss girls went on their way to enjoy the rest of their holiday. I headed off for more sightseeing on an absolutely gorgeous clear day. I guess I was quite lucky as the weather is typically otherwise during this time of year. My first stop was to the Parliament & Big Ben for a more upclose view, Westminster Abbey next door, then my last stop at Buckingham Palace and the impressive changing of the guards. Make sure you watch the video in my playlist. After a long day of walking I was pooped and starving. On my way back to Shah's I decided to make dinner for us. My first thought was to bust out my mad filipino skills and make chicken adobo, but by the time I got back to Camden, the Asian ... read more
