DAY 1 So I hopped on an American Airlines red-eye flight from NYC to London's Heathrow airport. Dinner was served on board, but it was already 1am, so I declined. I knocked out most of the way and pleasantly woke up to smell of coffee & crossaints that I couldn't pass up. When we landed it was already 11am in the morning -- which was 5 hours ahead of NYC. Talk about jet lag. Ahhh, after 6-hours we landed on European Soil. The weather wasn't much different from when I left Rochester - gray, cold, & and it looked like it had just rained. Bummer. Anyway, got my bags and made my way to the "Tube" or Underground (subway) Picadilly Line to Kings Cross station in Central London to meet Shah, my first international Couchsurfing host. ... read more

Well I left Shanghai in style riding the Maglev train to the airport. It travels at a sprightly 430 km/phr, covering the 30 km track in 8 minutes. Thats fast, mhmm. The flight to Frankfurt was torture, the connection to London was easy, even if it did involve a bit of sprinting between gates. Im glad to be traveling via train for the next 3 months or so. Met the Celima at the airport and took the underground to Camden where we are staying at Mike and Sophies, thanks guys! Next day we checked out Camden markets and then headed to a few pubs, several beers and two bottles of nice Chilean wine later we were lost somewhere in greater London, ha. We eventually found our way home and dumped our booty and headed into Leister ... read more

So I’m about to go to bed right now…It’s almost 12:30 am but I want to recap today since it was my last day with miss Melissa Hollis and being in London…tear. Headed out to London and the girls showed me some more classic sights…Saw the tower of London and it’s sweet moat and the Tower Bridge. A dinky little pirate boat had to go under so we even witnessed the bridge being closed off and raising/lowering its bridge while we were on it! Earlier, they took me to Camden where little kiosks and local shops were open and busy busy busy!!!! It was crazy and hectic—it was almost like a bizarre of spices, clothes, jewelry, food, and incense. Amazing!!! We kept walking around and even went back to Covent Garden since we had so much ... read more

The following is a direct transcription of a page dated 6/19/08 bearing the title "Airlines does beez A-Holes" I believe myself to be a reasonably bright fellow, well those who know me know my ego allows nothing in the way of reason when it comes to my smarts, but I think you catch my drift. Anyway, as bright as I am, I am constantly amazed at the depth of my ability to be stupid. "How?" Well, today I got burned by my old nemesis, the fucking airlines. Now, those amongst you of reasonable intellect who have met me are aware that I am slightly taller than the average guy. My slight frame requires me to sit in exit rows or bulkhead seats on flights to avoid kneeing the chair in front of me for the legnth ... read more

Happy belated 4th of July to everyone back in the States! I had a really fun 4th of July celebration, but in a very English way so I'm not quite sure if it counts. Details of that to come in a few. I mentioned in my last post that for Reporting the Arts we are assigned to go see two pieces a week and are encouraged to go see additional things on our own. Our first two assigned pieces were to go see a play called That Face, which we attempted to go see one night but had to postpone due to an unknown issue with the London Underground. We picked another night to go and I volunteered to purchase tickets for everyone beforehand. Hayley and I went down to Leicester Square on Wednesday morning and ... read more

It must be said upfront and with emphasis. I LOVE London. I have no idea what it is about the place, and I haven't spent much time here, but for some reason I just love the place. There is something about the combination of chaos and history and beer and sandwiches (have I mentioned the sandwiches, prepackaged and awesome). I decided to do some cultural shit and check out the British Museum. Where do I start. The Rosetta Stone... Well, it certainly is a stone. That is undeniable. Yep, a fucking stone. That's about all I can say about that one. The rest of the place was actually really cool. It was like stepping into Iron Maiden's Powerslave album cover. Very cool. Egyptian shit, damn that is impressive. (I think it's time to shift gears here, ... read more

Life is terribly unoriginal. I arrived in London this morning, looked at my passport and realized that one year ago today I touched down in, wait for it, London. That’s right, without conferring or checking or planning I end up in an airport in London one year to the day, hell, the hour almost, after my first arrival. This time I get here angry, but happy, if you follow. I am so very, very tired of asshole airlines. Truthfully I could go on for hours on this one, but really, do you want that? Seriously, do you? I’m not kidding here; I have a ton of it. If you want to hear more, let me know. I am getting back to transcribing journals, so I just wanted to let you know and I will get to ... read more

So...today we went to the infamous Harrod's department store. We bought cheese and apple danish and a breakfast roll for Scott. At the pizza counter, one of the chefs was tossing dough as he sang from a well known operatic aria. It was most impressive, seeing as none of us can even properly toss pizza dough! We mapped our way to the "toilette por homme" and Hunter found it to be quite fancy, especially for department store. We left Harrod's and travelled down the street to a tavern. Down the stairs we were directed. We entered the restaurant and the talking inside immediately stopped! WEIRD!! It was filled with a LOUD group of French. I sampled my first taste of "bangers & mash" (sausages & mashed potatoes). Good enough to have again. Hunter had a sampler ... read more

Hello! I've spent the last month studying for my final exams and working part time at the pub. I finished my last exam on May 14, and since then I've been working full time, saving a bit of money for my upcoming adventure through central Europe. My exams went pretty well, but I was very glad to be done. In the one engineering exam I had I messed up the easy question which everyone got, but I got the hard question which noone else got, so I guess it balances out. At the beginning of May we had ten straight days of absolutely stunning weather - clear blue skies and twenty five degrees. I was eating dinner on the balcony every night, running in the park (which was crammed every day), and walking the streets of ... read more
