Thursday night after my much needed nana nap I headed over to Richmond to catch up with Sabrina. Caught the train from Clapham Junction to Richmond - once again, too easy! We went to the Pitcher and Piano for a drink - sat out on the deck in the evening sun, by the river. Once again, I'm feeling surrounded by glamourous people - some of the girls had on the coolest dresses! We then went to a lovely french restaurant for dinner. It was brilliant. Vicky met us at the restaurant and we (me and Vicky) caught the tube back to Clapham South, and walked back to the flat. It is quite surprising, but it feels really safe wandering around at night. On Friday I went to Canary Wharf with Vicky. We caught the underground in ... read more

Wow! Back in London after ten years! It's so great to be back! And already, after only a day I'm feeling pretty settled. Slept in a little this morning and woke up feeling decidedly average - jetlagged! Had brekky and chatted with Vicky's flatmate Susan and her sister Chrissy. What cool chicks - both ex advertising and now into yoga and studying naturopathy! Very interesting women. Once I got myself organized I headed out. Down to Vicky's favorite shopping street - Northcote Road. It was definitely the spot for the yummy mummy's around town, as Vicky had warned me. Everyone just seemed extremely well groomed and wealthy. Really nice spot. Popped into Starbucks for a while, figured out how to use their wireless and added some travel apps to my iPhone. Got a uk sim for ... read more

Two weeks down in London town. First weekend started off well, with a friendly night at the pub watching football, followed by champagne and papa dams in the back patio of the Nepalese restaurant in the neighborhood, while waiting for a table large enough for the 10 of us. For a nicely dramatic effect, the restaurant lost power and we all had to shuffle through the slushy streets looking for a place still illuminated. Side note: I left California in 75 degree heat, wearing jeans, wooly knee socks, hefty boots, a tank top, t-shirt, long-sleeve, sweater, and jacket. Funny that everybody tells me I should have simply worn the 16 pounds of clothing I was overweight upon departure. Funny that within the period of my flight from London to the US and my return trip, United ... read more

After i splashed water all over him we went outside and it was very hot. We tried to catch a cab and go to our 5 star hotel. We went through the mayfair( which is named after the anual fortnight may fair) and white chapel( It IS a built up inner city) districts to get to the holiday inn. When we got there we figured out that the hotel was full and that they only had suits. so we stayed in the suites for three days and we went out each day and the was preety cold. Most of the people working at the inn were from india or were white irish. Most of the time we toured we saw churches and we were suprised of how many people were cristians in London. When we were ... read more

Hello all Welcome to Amy and Simon's blog of their world tour! Over the next 9 months these pages will be full of insightful comment, incredible tales, fantastic photos and witty prose, so please, make yourself a cup of tea, sit back, and enjoy the ride. As I write this we have four days of work left and in two weeks time we'll be in Mexico City before heading quickly on to Cuba. Its an incredibly surreal feeling to know that after years of talking about it, our travels are so close to happening. We're pumped full of injections, the malerial tablets are bought, we've got our Cuban visa and generally I think we're getting closer to being sorted and ready to leave. But lets not get ahead of ourselves, we've still got a few hurdles ... read more

Hey everyone! The events of this past week are that Molly and I took a side trip to LONDON!! The flights were really cheap on a student airline called RyanAir and we got to stay with one of Molly's friends from her university in the US so it was relatively cheap to go...which was a definite plus. It is also a place that we are not going to be able to make it to when we do the Eurotrip at the end, so it was great to check another place to see of of my huge list! We arrived in London at about 2 on Thursday afternoon and the first thing that I noticed is that it is FREEZING there...well atleast to me. For Molly it was like every other day in Minnesota, but for me ... read more

5 Weeks to go before we head off!! So, in preparation I thought I would set up this Travel Blog so that family and friends can keep in contact while we are away and keep an eye on where we are and what we are up to!! Luckily, Mr Laing and I are well balanced! He is fairly laid back and likes to leave things until the last minute & I like to be organised! We have handed in notice to our Landlord & our place was already taken up on the first day!! We have lived in Balham for nearly 2 years and will miss our rental apartment, comedy evenings at the Bedford and happy hour at +venture - the best cocktail bar! I have just started slowly packing up our house. Bruce obviously thought ... read more
