Day 10: A Mixed day Today I took the river cruise to Greenwich. I should mention before I begin that before coming to England one of the first "day trips" I had planned was Greenwich. I had been looking forward to seeing the Maritime Museum, the Prime Meridian and Greenwich. Unfortunately, I found Greenwich to be disappointing. The National Maritime Museum is being renovated, so much of their displays on the 2nd and 3rd floors are closed to the public. The Cutty Sark is still being repaired since the devastating fire in 2007, but that I knew prior to going to England. I had been so looking forward to seeing the Sark and was disappointed to read that they'd pushed the re-launch date to spring 2012. After leaving the National Maritime Museum (mainly because the fire ... read more

Day 11: Touring London by Bus Today I took an open-top tour bus tour around the city of London. As the British would say, it was brilliant. It was unbelievable. We went through so many different areas of the city. I saw so many old buildings, from the 17th century through to the 19th century. It's amazing how you can move from one section of the city into another one and you'll see buildings from different periods up to and including ones currently under constructions. We went through Kensington, Paddington, Chelsey, Mayfair and Knightsbridge just to name a few. It was nice to see areas that I had only heard or read about in books. I even went over London bridge (and no it wasn't falling down). To think that someone thought about that back in ... read more

Today was a day of walking around the city. I had a few errands to run, so it gave me the chance to explore and just see things. It was nice walking along Whitehall and past the houses of Parliament. I walked across Westminster Bridge, which for those who don't know the city, is right beside Big Ben (houses of Parliament). It's the way that I get into the city every day. More fun to travel via busses I find then the tube, I can see the sites via bus, although tube is faster. I found 10 Downing Street by pure luck, it did help that I was walking instead of travelling in a bus. There was a large gathering at the gates to the street and a motor cade was setting up. It would appear, ... read more

Today was a good day. I went into London to pick up my tourist passes, so that I could see some of the sites for free, or at a cheaper cost. Then I finally did something I've always wanted to do: I went to Hyde Park. Most will think that that's no big deal, but for me, it was. I sat on a bench and closed my eyes and I could hear the clopping of the horse's hooves and the rolling of the wheels on a carriage. I could image that I was watching the social elite from the 18th and 19th centuries do there thing. It was spectacular. Today, it's filled with people sitting on the lawns and sunbathing; sitting on benches and relaxing; joggers/runners on the paths; and bike riders. Vehicles are majorly limited. ... read more

I've done more museums in two days of being in London then I think I've done in my whole life lol. Yesterday was the National Gallery, which is soooo not me. I enjoyed the pictures but by no means am I into art that much. Today was the on Gallery I had to see, the National Portrait Gallery. It was absolutely amazing. I saw paitings that were done in the 1500s. Pictures of Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Mary I and Henry VIII, to name but a few of the old ones. There were paintings of more modern royals, such as Queen Elizabeth II with her parents and sister in 1950, Princes William and Harry, as well as their parents, done in the '80s. It was interesting to hear about how people from the time described some ... read more

Today was my first full day in London, and it was pretty amazing. I took a bus into the city, it was about a hours drive, but well worth it. I saw Big Ben, the Thames, the Eye, the Houses of Parliament, Whitehall, the Hourse Guard and Trafalgar Square. It was amazing just seeing the places I've thought about and dreamed about for years. I went to the National Gallery. Now there's something I never thought I'd say lol. But it was quite the experience. I didn't recognize the names of all the painters I saw, but for some it didn't matter. Just seeing a painting that I know was painted centuries ago was, well for a lack of a better word, amazing. I saw paintings by Di Vinci, Rembrant, Michaelangelo, Bonitello, Monet and Rubeuns, just ... read more

I am finally here. It has been about 10 years in the making, but I've finally made it to London. I got here around 5:45 and all I've seen so far is King's Cross Stations (nothing like the Harry Potter movies, by the way), the tube (which seem slightly smaller than the ones back home) and a subburb of the city. Which for now is enough. Tomorrow will be my first full day in London and the plan is to explore to see what this city has to look at, can't wait. Tomorrow the adventure really begins. :) ... read more

Me and my mum decided that the best way to start our Journey would be to take the sleeper train to London from Kingussie. London is where we had to get the aeroplane and mum said there would be lots of exciting things to do in London. I really liked the sleeper train. The room was very small and it had bunk beds. Mum said that I had to get into my pyjamas and go to bed on the top bunk. All night I kept waking up when the train kept stopping. I thought I was going to fall out onto the floor. Eventually we arrived at Euston Station in London. London is the capital city of England and home to things like The Queen, Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament (that Guy Faulkes tried to ... read more

The flight from Korea to London was long and uneventful. Looking down at the little villages in Russia was amazing. The green landscape and winding rivers below made you realize how vast the world really is. By the time we got to Heathrow London we were both knackered. not having slept at all and being up for 20 hrs straight that day really took its toll. The queue in immigration was sooooo long. We thought we'd be there for hours but in reality it was about an hour. We were mixed in with the “foreigners” which were mainly paki's and blackies. There was also a holding section which seemed to be filled with muslims. The immigration official drilled us with questions: How long? Where are you going? Where are you staying? Who are you staying with? ... read more
