Hello Panama seems like ages ago now and it was a bit of a flying visit but we had a really good time there. We visited one of the locks of the Panama Canal and watched a couple of huge boats go through which was quite impressive, walked round the old centre, and spent an afternoon walking in one of the jungle national parks close by which was cool - it was amazing to be in the middle of what felt like deep jungle watching a family of armadillos when in fact we were only a few minutes by taxi from [View Full Entry]

Hola from Panama! Well we´re currently in Panama...not somewhere we orginally planned we would go to, but somewhere we have ended up! Last time we left you, we were taking time out from the backpacker travels and were residing with a Tican family in Potero in Costa Rica studying spanish. Studying in playa flamingo was great fun and a good ´break´from the constant decision making needed when you´re on the road, so we were sad to say goodbye to our friends and Tican family last week, but excited to continue our travelling. Our first stop after Flamingo was Monteverde...the cloud rain [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone I hope those spanish speakers amongst you could make some sense out of my homework (please don´t be too harsh with the mistake spotting). Before I get going, I should warn you that I´m pretty sure that my brain is operating a one in one out policy, so for every spanish word I learn, my English seems to get worse, so apologes if I´m even mor incorent than normel. Anyway, although I think I probably say this at the start of every entry, we´re having a brilliant time here in Flamingo and really enjoying it. We really feel that [View Full Entry]

Hola amigos! Really I should be writing this blog in Spanish as we have now started our spanish classes, but I think I´ll have to have a few more lessons before I´m up to that standard. Maybe next week... Well, we last left you when we arrived in Granada, which as always when we write our blogs seems a whole world away from where we are now. After spending our first day wondering round the town of Granada we decided to take it easy the next day and went to the "Monkey Hut" on Laguna de Apoyo, a little hut right [View Full Entry]

We think this is temple 3...
Hola I think Amy finished her last entry the night before our 3am start to go and see the sun rise over the Mayan jungle ruins of Tikal. After a slightly bleary eyed bus journey we did a 30 minute sprint up hill through the jungle in the dark, trying not to trip over too many tree roots (or sleeping snakes as Amy thought they were) as we passed the slightly ghostly shapes of various ruins. Eventually, knackered and feeling slight stunned by running that early in the morning, we climbed the stairs up to the top of Temple 4, one [View Full Entry]

Hola!! How are you all? well, we're in Guatemala at the moment and its boling hot here! In fact it keeps getting hotter each country we go to... Cuba seems like such a long time ago now, but i think Simon promised in his last blog our thoughts on the country....I'll keep it brief...well....in some ways Cuba is quite under-developed. It was a bit of a shock to see all the houses are all falling apart, the roads have holes in them, there are no shops and in the few that exist there is no stock (going into a Mexican supermarket [View Full Entry]

Hi all Time to update you on the thrills and spills from Cuba. I think Amy last wrote on our last day in Trinidad. Reluctant to leave Trinidad but feeling we should move on we continued east to a city called Camaguey which is the biggest city in central Cuba. Camaguey was again very different to Havana and Trinidad. The most obvious difference was the lack of other tourists and to be honest, after a quick whizz round the city´s few sights, there wasn´t a huge amount there to do except to soak in the Cuban way of life such as [View Full Entry]

At the moment I´m sitting perched on the end of the seat as it´s a bit painful to sit down, but I´ll come onto that... We are still in Trinidad. It´s such a gorgeous village that we have ended up staying here for three nights so far. Our first proper day was at the beach. The beach is gorgeous...white sand, clear blue sea, palm trees, mojitos in the shade. In the usual tradition we managed to get burnt whilst still plastering on the sun cream and sitting in the shade for most of the time. Lucikly we had planned ahead and [View Full Entry]

Trinidad life

Hello So here we are, sorry for the delay in our first entry proper and there will be photos to follow its just that we haven´t got the lead with us at the moment. Anyway, where to start... So our first port of call was Mexico City where we arrived quite late with no guide book or anything. The first thing we noticed was the difference in the force of gravity in Central America, our bags seemed to have doubled in weight from when we packed them in UK. Ah well, hopefully we´ll get stronger We hadn´t really thought about Mexico [View Full Entry]
