Sometimes you get wrapped up in the moment . You get carried away . Deepak Chopra said something like "There will never be time when your life is not this moment ". You get emotional . You don't think of the inconvenience nor the cost but you go with the flow . You have to do it . You may not get the chance again . And so it was when Wrexham AFC found themselves after playing extremely well in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley the home of English football . It was an honour . A time of great pride and with the tickets only costing £10 it was hard to put off going . OK it would be an extremely long day. A costly one in terms of putting petrol in the car ... read more

It's that time of year - the schools are breaking up and we are getting ready for our summer holiday. Looking forward to a bit of heat as we head into Bulgaria, Greece and perhaps Turkey (getting car insurance for Turkey is a real challenge). We fly into Sofia on the 25thJuly accompanied by Great Uncle Bulgaria... with the aim of having him appear at least once in very Blog. Not planning on stopping long in Sofia as it's your typical communist block capital with a small bit of old culture thrown in. Hired an "intermediate" sized car - that should be fun with the boys in it. - we'll see how that goes. Should at least be fuel efficient! After Sofia we are driving to Bansko where our friends the Nannerys (hello Paul, Mary, Caoilin ... read more

Hugh and Den - those lovely guys in High Wycombe? No, Hughenden - just a mile or two down the road! Hughenden was the Buckinghamshire home from 1848 to 1881 of a former Prime Minister of Britain named Benjamin Disraeli. Disraeli - 'Dizzy' to his friends - was a Conservative politician. He served twice as Prime Minister - from February to December 1868 and again from February 1874 to April 1880. His achievements were many and various - click on his name in the previous paragraph to see just how many and various they were. Suffice to say, he has a well-deserved place in the history of Great Britain. A middle-class man of Jewish birth, Disraeli rose to become one of the most respected politicians of his era. On becoming ... read more

It's that time of year - the bags are coming down from the loft - the sun tan cream is being taken out of the drawer - I'm getting a hair cut - well had a hair cut. It's the summer one - 3 on the side with a 4 on top - just in case anyone is interested. We leave Thursday for Madrid and spend a couple of days there before picking up a car and heading to Galicia and an organic dairy farm. Eleanor is getting her herding skills warmed up! Then after a week we move closer to Santiago de Compostella - which is supposed to be where St. James is buried and is the end of the "Way of St.James" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Way_of_St._James But before we get in the car and leave Madrid ... read more

Ok it's been over a year and it's time for us to head away again - this year it's sunny Barbados (or rainy Barbados at this time of year...). We haven't been since 2007 so it will interesting to see how it's changed. We are staying far up on the West Coast near Speightstown. We will check in today to see if we can get seats even close to one another (with a bit of leg room if possible) - one minute after it opens I'll be online! I've also got the afternoon off to pack and tidy the house so that it doesn't look a complete mess for the people looking after it! - Update 10 minutes after check-in open we have 5 seats in a row - result....... though they do back onto the ... read more

With a target of £6,000 to raise for our trek we decided to host a fundraising BBQ to bring in some extra cash. My cricket club agreed to allow us to setup on a game day so we could cook for players and supporters throughout the day. Unfortunately the English weather struck and in poured down all morning and at lunchtime the cricket game was called off. We decided to venture out to Wycombe anyway as the forecast for later in the afternoon was clear and we had numerous people coming so figured we would at least sell a few sausages. Luck was on our side and after arriving and setting up it didn't rain for the rest of the afternoon. Many of the players and club regulars stuck around for some of the Aussie BBQ ... read more

Hello everyone! So this time next week we will be arriving at the airport to start our trip and theres still lots to do and lots of people to see! My girlfriend and I have been lucky in that we have both managed to secure jobs for when we return to the UK! Heather will be working for Waitrose on the graduate scheme and I have today accepted a job on the BT graduate scheme, this will mean we can fully relax while away and not have to worry about totally draining our bank accounts (which I now fully intend to do!). First stop is Bangkok via Dubai (only a 1hr transit) where we have booked into a hotel called Bhimann Inn, fairly close to Khao San Road with air con and a small swimming pool, ... read more
