Well, the arabic influence is stronger than I had anticipated in Andalucia. The buildings are amazing... it doesn´t feel anything like what I know of ¨Spain¨here... but it is still very beautiful! The sky is so impressive. I did not see a cloud all day long. NOT ONE! The sun just went down (it´s 11:30pm) and the stars are amazing. Nothing like a beautiful night´s sky from the roof of a building! By the way, I just checked the temperature... it´s still over 90 degrees! (Dad, you would hate this place!!) Don´t worry, there is air conditioning! I had arabic food tonight for dinner. My hostel-mate is from Brazil and she took me to this great little place with wraps... it´s called de kebab or something like that. Really delicious! Well, it´s been another long day. ... read more

Monday night was supposed to be the start of la fiesta de San Juan with bands and fireworks, but it started to POUR!!! I can not explain to you how crazy town was. Everyone was scattering and running as if they'd die. It was definatly an experience. I ran 15 minutes home in the pouring rain. Everything I was wearing was soaked: hoodie, tshirt, bra, capri's, underwear, purse. I had to wring my clothes out. My mom was having a party for the fireworks since we get a really good view of the aquaduct from the house, so I ran into the house soaking and everyone in the basement was staring at me laughing. They were all dry, and I was just soaked. Ah what a moment. I got home around 11:30 pm and my mom ... read more

Yesterday was a long day. Good... but long! After my last blog, I met up with that professor guy for dinner. We found a neat & authentic Spain restaurant near one of the main plazas in Madrid. We enjoyed a wonderful meal, full of good bread and excellent pasta. At the end of the meal, the server brought us a dessert (on the house) that was a mandarin orange frozen drink with some kind of liquor in it. It was delicious! After dinner, we roamed the town a bit. Then, back at the hostel, I made friends with a girl from Chile. It was awesome to be immersed in Spanish and learn about a different culture at the same time. I guess it defined the entire purpose of me being here. We managed to make it ... read more

It is a miracle of God that we´re still alive!! We drove from Sevilla to Cordoba with at least five different maps - none of which we could really read. Everyone we would ask would give us a map and highlight the route, with pen, drawing through the names of the streets. We decided to throw away most of the maps and just go by intuition. That mostly served us well. We arrived at the tour point in Cordoba at exactly the moment the tour was to begin. They were waiting for us! Each tour has been such a treat. Usually we just like to explore on our own, but the tours and guides have been great and we´ve learned so much! Much of our time on the tour yesterday was spent in the cathedral/mosque, the ... read more

Hola! So I thought I went to London, but I went to Gatwick which is like going to Fremont and thinking you are in San Francisco. Apparently Heathrow is the real London, not Gatwick. I'll let you know when I really make it to London. I did, however, have the pleasure of meeting a delightful lesbian couple on the Gatwick flight. One of them is a radio host in London for the "Lisa Jane Love Hour". Apparently if I so desired, I could now go through the online archives and listen to Hotel California being dedicated to me. You're jealous I know. Admit it. Disclaimer: George, Harriet, Therese, and any other card carrying PETA members, probably you don't want to read any further about my trip to Madrid. Ah Madrid. Fun facts: ~I HEARD it is ... read more

hello everyone!! After leaving the hostel this morning, I walked the entire way to the train station to drop my luggage. I knew that it was going to be a long walk, but it was a nice opportunity to see the city. The green spaces in Madrid are beautiful. The train station was an interesting experience. I stood in a line for about 45 minutes waiting to purchase my ticket. I ended up buying a return trip while I was there because the thought of doing that again was ridiculous! I was also able to leave my big rolling bag there and can pick it up when I pass through on my way to Salamanca next week. One detail to share, the train station in Madrid has an indoor rain forest! It is really neat, full ... read more

Tuesday June 24, 2008. Time is sure flying. Today as I mentioned is the Dia de San Juan. So before lunch Liz and I went out in the streets where there as a parade with those dolls with the big heads. And also a large clock which was like a music box with mimes that came out of it. They were really good. Finally there was these bag pipers and this guy who had instruments hooked up to his bike and he played while he drove around. I have never seen such beautiful shoes in my life. They all have this handmade leather look which is very expensive. The fashion here is really awesome. Everyone is dressed well all the time. The kids never look dirty and even the old ladies wear high heels. Tonight there ... read more

See text in English below 22 de enero de 2008.

Geo: 40.4637, -3.74922A terrible sleep last night - I was still up early for breakfast, which included eggs that you can cook yourself. As a side note, this place also includes pasta, rice, oil, salt, pepper, etc. Great place! Since I was at it, I also made some breakfast for Rob and Vanessa. In walked a very cute brunette Aussie girl named Angela so being the gentleman that I am, I offered to cook her some eggs, as well. I then found out she had a boyfriend, and wanted to take back the eggs ... so much for being a gentleman ... I've been up Mt. Iguelde before, but not Mt. Urgull - Angela had been up there before but wanted to do it again, so off we went. She's got some friends showing up later ... read more
