Hola familia y amigos, Things are going better than they did the first day. I was finally able to see my American friends at the orientation yesterday, so I felt better. Plus I got a cell phone too so I called Mom and Rissa, although I’m still trying to figure out the cost of it all, sounds like a bit of a rack up. We walked all through the town and my feet were killing me. It really is true that American’s aren’t very active because all everyone does around here is walk around. The whole schedule of the day is different in Spain compared to the U.S. They eat very little breakfast only coffee con leche (coffee with milk) and some crackers and then a big lunch is at 2 or 3 followed by a ... read more

;-) ... read more

Man, what a great nights sleep. I can totally feel the contrast between London, Paris, and Madrid. While the former are amazingly high energy cosmopolitan cities, Madrid is much more laid back. While still a large city, it possesses a soothing energy that allows its inhabitants to take their time. One of the things I notice the most about European culture is that people celebrate life more here. It’s less about hustle and bustle and how big your house is, how expensive your car is, but how you enjoy life. Anyways, since our train left at 3pm and check out time was 10am, we left our bags in the care of our hostel and went out to get a meal and hang out. I opted for the traditional eggs, bacon, and potatoes with a refreshing orange ... read more

RING…..RING……RING…..DAMNIT! Not sure about you, but I HATE alarm clocks. There’s very few sounds in this world that can rival the annoying qualities of an alarm clock sound in the morning, especially when you’ve only slept 3 hours. Although I only slept 3 hours, the beds at St. Moritz were exponentially more times more comfy than in beds I had been sleeping in for the majority of my trip. Luckily, my body is in vacation mode, so I was pretty well rested considering the circumstances. Most of you know I don’t require much sleep when I’m having a great time haha. Anyways, we had to get up and check out pronto. After checking out, we headed to my hostel (Hostal Gothic Point) to leave our bags. We then got breakfast at this quaint little restaurant on ... read more

There are two interesting things to talk about in this blog, the first involves, dogs, ex-druggies and bonsai....and the second, my grandma (oma) coming to visit us in a tiny village in Valencia! Mario and I have been lucky enough to get to travel together around Spain because of his work with Bonsai. We left Alicante for one week to go to Valencia. We were given an apartment in a tiny town called La Pobla Llarga close to the place where Mario would be working. We were very surprised when we were first taken to the huge complex. Not only did it contain hundreds of bonsai, but it was also a place where all sorts of dogs were bred. Kennels with barking dogs everywhere! Now the most unusual part which turned out to definitely be the ... read more

Dag 9.

With this final drive along the northern coast to San Sebastian we bid Spain goodbye. Our two-week tour of this most amazing country has drawn to a close. We will meet up with our French tour manager this afternoon and begin a journey to the French Riviera. This is the first overcast morning we have encountered, and it feels appropriate, for I am truly sad to leave Spain. The mountains around me are drenched in mist and the rolling hills are damp with morning moisture - it feels as if Spain is grieving our departure… Groups of overfed white sheep appear in clusters on the steep hillsides, in stark contrast to the lush green of the mountains. We had a grand sendoff last night in Olvieda, a wealthy city in the territory of Asturias, which has ... read more

Woke up this morning a little tired. I had a really odd dream about my dad’s health that really tripped me out. I basically woke up two hours after I went to bed and couldn’t go back to sleep. Mental note: call home and make sure pops is ok. When my friend woke up, she said I looked pretty damn worried, so I KNOW I must’ve looked pretty damn nervous. I can’t even verbalize the feelings I went through that morning worrying about my pops. Anyways, on to happier things haha. Woke up this morning with my sights set on seeing the rest of the things I wanted to see in Madrid. Our first order of business was to go to the Prado Museum. Apparently, it had one of the greatest collections of art in the ... read more
