Much less tourists was the first thing that came to mind, so the hot Spanish girls stand out even more lol. Puts first week of uni to shame. The green on the pedestrian crossings here dont beep, they make a bird style tweet. Gives me a chuckle. Was 39 degrees the day I arrived and had a wander around but was just a dry heat so much more bearable than Barcelona. Checked out a few things in the arvo, went out for tapas and a couple of beers at night with some American guys from the hostel. Did a walking tour the next day that was alright, run by the local tourist office. Checked out some other things like the Egyptian temple and El Retiro park, and saw the rest of the things that interested me ... read more

So, short back-up entry. We visited the Consitutional Court of Spain on Wednesday. It's actually quite impressive. Apparently the Spanish Constitution has been rewritten several times... the last time was in 1982. This was the only time that a Constitutional Court was created to allow different regions to have a court to settle disputes with the federal government. They also have a great library that reminds me a lot of Beauty and the Beast. Later that night we had a fiesta complete with Sangria. See the pictures. Sorry this is a short post!... read more

Today on our way to Lourdes we stopped at the French seaside town, Biarritz. Unfortunately the weather wasn´t great but mum and I still enjoyed ourselves. We went for a walk along the beach and seaside for a bit before heading back to the meeting point where we grabbed some lunch. We got to Burgos at about 5pm and were dropped off at the Plaza that housed a huge cathedral. Mum and I didnt go in. Again we just walked around for a bit, bought some stamps and grabbed a drink before we were picked up to go back to the hotel. Getting back to the hotel was a drama because traffic was mayhem because of bullfights that were happening in Spain and some of the bullfighters were staying in the same hotel as us!! We ... read more

I got my room assignment, and I´m in room 320 with this girl Kat. She seems pretty cool, maybe a little hyperactive, but I like that because I can be pretty shy. I´ve met a bazillion people and don´t remember half their names, but I´m happy because they´re all really nice to me and I LOVE it. Haven´t had any issues yet, but I´ll keep you posted. So far my closest friends are Maxine, Daisy, Isabella, and Erica. I have to go, but I´ll keep you posted! Just know I got here safe and sound! LOVE YOU ALL AND MISS YOU TONS! PS. If I EVER have to stay more than 12 hours at an airport again, I might shoot myself. Total travel time on the way there was 37.5 hours. I am in serious need ... read more

Quick update July 1st, 2008. Wow can you believe it, it’s already July 1st, One more month to go, I’m enjoying things here but when the time comes I will be ready to go home. I miss everyone terribly but by staying busy it helps. Today we spent a very long time planning the trip to Barcelona, which is 9 hours away on a bus. We have finally got it all set though, we leave Thursday night and will sleep on the bus and will wake up and be in Barcelona. I’m looking forward to it except the bus part the train was really expensive. I just hope we made the right choice to go there instead of going to Valencia. The group is splitting up again which works out fine. My roommate is cramming both ... read more

We pulled into a camping site in Gijon on June 18th. Our camp site overlooked the sea and that evening we had sloppy joe's on the bbq and watched a new swell roll in. We stayed here for two nights just bummin around and taking day trips to nearby towns. We found this old abandoned pier and jumped off of it into the ocean. On the second evening I surfed a point break on the edge of the town beach. No one else out, just me and the sea monsters. From Gijon, we drove to La Coruna, which is one of the largest port cities of Spain. On the way, we found another great surf break off the side of the highway. We hung out at this beach for the afternoon, swimming, surfing and snorkelling. In ... read more

After Morocco I thought it would be best to start off my travels in Europe with the last stronghold of the Muslims in Spain. I took a boat from Tangier in the evening and took a night bus from Algaciras to Granada. The boat was interesting and I chatted with some Moroccan women on the way over. I saw a couple other foreigners, but practically everybody on the boat was Moroccan. After customs I found the bus for Granada, which was also completely full of Morccans. The bus got to Granada a bit earlier than I had expected - it was about 4am Sunday morning and I had no idea where to go to wait until it got light. Fortunately one of the other two women who got off the bus in Granada was very nice ... read more

Well, one short half-day after getting to Madrid, our classes started. I'm taking three classes from three Spanish Law Professors. They all have really impressive credentials - 2 are partners at global lawfirms (who teach on the side for a different prospective) and the other one cancelled the first class (clearly a slacker). Actually, he was doing something in D.C. because he is an advisor to the government and couldn't get back in time for the first class. Interestingly, the professors were very nice and apologized for their poor English skills. I think that this is rather ironic - they were speaking perfect English, but even as partners at global lawfirms they were apologizing to law students. I just can't really see that happening at home. But I think it's a reflection of the Spanish culture ... read more

Arrived in Madrid after a delayed flight. We surprised ourselves and saved 30 euro by getting ourselves from the airport to the hostel. It was so hot when we arrived and soon found ourselves getting into the Spanish siesta routine. We stayed in a busabout hostel in the red light district of Gran Via (it was not bad at all). On our first day we navigated with our map around the city and looked like real tourists. We found the Royal Palace (Palacio Real) what a beautiful place, the rooms where amazing and all had exquisit touches, if only I was a princess. Outside the place is the Cathedral de nuetra senora de la almudena which was nice on the inside and shabby on the outside. We then walked to the Plaza Mayor the oldest quater ... read more
