¡Saludos desde España! The blog is back up and ready to go for my newest adventure-SPAIN! I arrived September 20th and have been sucked into a whirlwind of new sights, sounds and experiences. My first week was all orientation, in Sevilla, which was completely overwhelming, as most orientations are. Gobs information crammed into 3 days- they definitely could have spread it out over at least 5. So, orientation was full of presentations and speakers about housing, banking, cell phones, internet, cultural norms, traveling, teaching our English classes and a WHOLE lot of other topics. Although orientation itself was a drag, we did go to a flamenco show, which was absolutely incredible! Flamenco is Spain's traditional dance and has a deep roots in the culture. It has an amazing history but I won't start on that, this ... read more

We had booked a week at a place called Sol Andulucia and enjoyed it so much we stayed for two such is our busy schedule. Had some very intersting times on Spanish roads are there any rules here?double parking, overtaking on corners, passing on roundabouts and of course the national sport of beat the red light at all costs. Which has led to Eunice questioning my impecable driving skills, which I had to defend my driving record. I have to report that Eunice had a run in with one of the natives at the 18th hole of Lauro golf course, a certain Mr Gander by name a vicious individual, I was in some trouble myself at the time, under a bush. when I heard the screams from the fairway. I ran to her rescue and saved ... read more

Hi from Malaga! We left Cordoba yesterday morning and visited the Medinat al-Zahara/Medina Azahara which is just out of town. This is an absolutely fascinating architectural site. It is the site of a 10th century muslim city which was abandoned and looted throughout history then forgotten until excavations began in 1911. There is an excellent exhibition which includes many artefacts which survived the looting. There was a 3D presentation of what the city would have looked like which was excellent to watch before wandering around the excavated portions of the complex. We then drove to Malaga. We've really enjoyed our time here and have had a chance to relax, wander around the city, people watch and enjoy the many street performers. The highlight of our sightseeing was the Picasso Museum (Museo Picasso Malaga). Picasso was born ... read more

3 March 2010 We left port in Las Palmas, the captain came on the PA and announced that it would be a rough night, stating that we would be going into a norwester ,,,,, isn’t that the infamous storms that sailors dread. Once we got outside port, the training wheels were definitely off for Gerrie, swells were 12 ft + . It was worse than a roller coaster, and I haven’t even been on one. Noel faired way better than me, go figure. These winds are associated to another one of the many multiple storms pounding Europe. We have arrived at Funchal, Portugal (most westerly port in our travels) and conditions were kind of mixed, sun, cloud, windy, doesn’t know what it wants to do. The Port at Funchal is rather plain, nowhere in comparison to ... read more

It seems, Like we switch off and on for writing these blogs, the funnier ones are mine ;) Today we watched the dusk bring Northern Africa to light, as we drank our champagne and ate our cheese filled ravioli on the balcony. We have a lovely kitchen, with all the fixin's....the only thing missing is spices! I am having a hard time, without curries and chilli pepper, but when you don't speak Spanish you have a hard time picking all the red ingredients from all the red ingredients. Kevin says he doesn't mind going to Mercadona (the market by our apartment) every day, he likes it there, like a kid in a candy store. So many foods to try so many different types of meats and cheeses. He's turned into quiet the interpreter he looks at ... read more

I was watching TV last Tuesday, and a commercial popped up about “The Greatest Show on Earth,” Barnum and Bailey’s circus. Málaga, November 14-15. WHAT!? “How great would it be,” I thought, “if I could get some people together to go the circus.” And I did! Raquel and Kate answered my request for fellow circus-goers, and we met at the train station Saturday morning. I realized it was the first time this entire semester that I’ve gone on a trip not organized by ISA. It was fantastic. When we arrived in Málaga, we checked in at our hostel and did a few obligatory tourist stops, you know, tour of Moorish castles and forts and the like, hiking up giant hills to get a view of the city, visit to the cathedral, stop at the roman ruins ... read more

... read more
