Well...I realized it has been a VERY long time since my last update!! But that's probably because this last week and a half has flown by So Lindsay and Karen came here from to stay with me from last Saturday until this past Saturday and it was so good to see some friends from home....unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate much and the warmest it ever got was like 65 degrees, but we still had a good time anyways. The nice thing is that instead of lazing around on the beach all day like we probably would've done if the weather had permitted it, we ended up going out and seeing places to keep ourselves preoccupied. We hung around town for the first few days to see all the local attractions, and then we went to go ... read more

Okay let’s see here…so the weather has been really nice and sunny lately so that’s been nice. I went to the beach a couple days ago again, but left a little early to work on school work!! Yes, I actually decided to attempt to keep up on it. My elective classes are going really well so far, sometimes having to translate constantly makes it a little difficult to keep up on note-taking during lectures, but it’s starting to go a lot better. It’s a lot different from what I’m used to because none of my classes have more than 10 students in them, but I actually kind of like it now because I feel like it’s a lot easier to get something out of it. I have two different professors for my four electives and they ... read more

Another shot of nighttime in Malaga

Well….I went to Granada this weekend which was a pretty good time. We left on Saturday morning and toured around a cathedral there a little bit and then shopped for the rest of the afternoon. We found a ton of really cheap stores for souvenirs on the side streets....it caused us to get chased around by gypsies trying to get us to buy rosemary from them, which was kind of weird...Then at night we climbed up one of the mountains to see the city from up high and the view was AMAZING! You could see everything from up there….and everything was lit up so you could see for miles. We were standing across from the mountain where the monument La Alhambra was built, and there were a bunch of lights shining on it to make it ... read more

Well....let's see....today I went to visit El Alcazar, a castle that is built along a mountain right next to the Mediterranean shore. Once we got to the top, the view was AMAZING!! Unfortunately my camera died after taking two pictures :( **Fail. But it was worth it anyways, and now I am ridiculously tired from walking and climbing things all day! Its crazy to think that I left a month ago today....time has definitely flown by. But its been a good month, so I'm really happy about that, and I feel really well adjusted now. I know I haven't been here for that long, but its weird to think that this place doesn't feel so foreign anymore and actually is starting to feel more like home. Speaking and hearing Spanish all the time seems way more ... read more

Well....time has been flying! Its crazy to think that I've almost been here for a month already. I feel like I know this place with enough detail as if I have been here longer but at the same time it feels like I just got here! Its crazy how things have progressed for me in the past few weeks. I've gotten to the point where all the cultural differences that were once difficult to accustom to are starting to feel really normal now and other than the language barrier, I don't really feel like a foreigner as much anymore. The first week I was here was a little difficult because of all the adjusting and it made me a little homesick, but now I've learned how to adapt and being away doesn't really bother me anymore. ... read more

High rise apartments along the beach.....pretty much the most common type of housing found here

So…the sun is out and the weather is warming up so I’m really in the mood to go to the beach this week! For once the non-heated houses here are WARM inside, its soooo much nicer! Except the tile floor is still ice cold and the shower still has luke warm water, but I’m getting used to it so it’s not such a big deal anymore. It’s weird how all the things I found different/strange here when I first arrived are starting to seem normal now. I figured it would’ve taken a month or two to get to that point, but I guess when you’re surrounded by the lifestyle all the time you kind of have to adapt or things won’t go smoothly. Now that I’ve got the city figured out a little bit more, walking ... read more

I figured since its been almost a week I should probably make an update! My internet access is a little unpredictable at the amount because wireless internet is pretty limited around here. Things have been going really well and I'm really getting to know the city quickly. I'm finally starting to get out of the whole awkward transition from being a foreigner who looks like they have no idea what's going on into becoming someone who actually looks like they know what they're doing. I'm starting to get the hang of the city and how to get to the main attractions....I also discovered a grocery store that's near my house which I am extreeemely excited about, because that means if I don't like the rando weird stuff there is to eat around the apartment, I can ... read more

Things went so much better today!! I am soooo excited. I only had one fail today, which was when I slept through my alarm and woke up at 8:35 and had to be to school by 9. Fortunately, I was able to get ready in 8 minutes, book it all the way to school, and arrive at 9:00 on the dot!! oh yeahhhh....and I did some research over the streets around my apartment last night, so I was able to make it both there and back with NO PROBLEMS!!! Now all I have to do is wake up on time tomorrow and it will be a perfect day...haha. I'm figuring once I get into the swing of things with school, I will stop feeling so off all the time, and not have so many epic fails. ... read more

The semester has finally begun! I'm staying with a host family now and had my first day of classes at the University of Malaga today. Classes went really well and I passed all my placement exams, so I'm extremely excited! Getting to and from class has been very interesting though....the map I got to show me the way to and from school doesn't extend far enough to show me where the apartment I am living in is....which is really annoying because it caused me to take a really messed up route there, where I had to stop and ask fast Spanish talking people for directions three times, and then on the way back I was pretty much just flat out lost. I ended up calling my host mom's daughter and tried to explain to her where ... read more

So this is actually an entry I meant to post last night, but internet access has been terrible so I wrote it out but never got a chance to put it up: The last few days have been absolutely INSANE. So when I said I was leaving for Malaga on Wednesday, I lied, I actually stayed at a hotel in Madrid with my ISA group for the past two nights, then we are going to be in Toledo for most of the the weekend, and getting to Malaga on Sunday to finally meet our host families. The hotel is right downtown and its been a ton of fun spending time here, and the nightlife is amazing!. The people from this program are pretty cool and its really easy making friends because we're all in this boat ... read more
