Rise and shine buttercup!! Say good bye to the dear friend Lindsey and take off deeper into the unknown, but first things first, let’s call the guapa Camille. She was excited to talk to me and as was I; even though it was 6am in Vienna and she was drunk in Missouri. Ok, onto the train station where I was unsure of my next destination. I had the options of stopping in Maribor or going straight to Ljubljana, the stop would have been a three to four hour delay and would have worked out just fine, but I decided against it. Therefore I jump track 14 and headed towards Ljubljana. This train ride is one of the most beautiful train trips I have ever taken, either way I took a nap. The good news is ... read more

i had another super day yesterday, and my routine summary of events will start now... woke up, had a hilarious shower (you cant beat holding the shower head) and went off to the train for my day in what i thought was the hilariously named kranj. Kraaaaaanj. train was decent, just more validation of how much this place makes me smile really. got off the train, and sonja was already there. said our hellos and went off to her car. any nerves i may have had were quickly vanquished when i saw that sonja drives a suzuki wagonR, a car which looks suspiciously like our classic moses eats cheese agilas. so i was chuffed at this. sonja drove us to a place called swans lake. because there are alot of swans on it. duh. had a ... read more

Wow, Slovenia is a very interesting country. I've learnt a lot in a few days and I can contribute it to my hot guide Yann when I did the walking tour! Amazing what looks can do to my interest levels. I think more and more people are taking an interest in this country. Its still nowhere near as overrun with tourists as Italy but I did run into quite a few foreigners. So heres a bit os a history lesson....Slovenia became an independent country from the former Yugoslavia in 1991 and have an interesting history. They have basically been plundered by any of the large empires in Europe at saome stage or another so have many different influences. They thankfully started using the Euro this year, a fact which I only realised just before getting ... read more

well well well well. i shall start by stating the obvious. slovenia is absolutely incredible. i am totally, utterly in love with this place, and i do not want to leave. before coming i had it in my head that this would be the highlight of the month, and by gum was i right. the train journey here was pretty uneventful, with some burnt rubber delaying us for 20minutes, gaz breaking a window and a big corridor being the general highlights. the train journey itself was another breathtaking one, just aesthetically perfect in every way. and then we enter slovenia, and everything kinda goes up a notch, and becomes what i would describe as the perfect place. everywhere you look you see snow capped mountains, the sky is just perfect. ace. we got to ljubljana, and ... read more

We kinda just walked around the hea around the lake for the afternoon. Canyoning started at 3pm.

Siesta Yesterday was scary......we all went unconscious at about 4.30 pm after a hard day on the archeological sites and could not wake up......jet lag kicks in. This morning I woke at 4am to jagged throat and tap nose (you were right David ) but not about to let a summer cold slow me down! So after slow breakfast of Pasta Dura toast and Peanut Butter, we went to the markets to pick up fresh ingredients for our home made dinner tonight, and a walk around the rambling laneways around Piazza Farnese. Then we head off to St Peters. So many nightmare stories about huge cues so very happy to rock up and straight to the top of the line and through security.....and the girls came prepared with long legs and sleeves so we were stright ... read more

Had a short ride to Otocek, uneventful apart from Diane falling off her bike in Novo Mesto trying to negotiate a cycle path. Following day rode on to Catez amongst lots of rain showers and spent a few half hours in well appointed bus shelters. Visited a monastery, but didn t do the tour as the early tour was full and the next available was in Slovenian. There was a very muscular monk in the shop, so I think they must have a gym in there. Beautiful farmland scenery, every house has tiny vineyards and corn growing right up to the front door. Climbed a particularly vicious hill only to discover that it was a mistake and returned down the hill. An incredulous chap mowing his grass came out to offer us a glass of ... read more

10th Today was such a good day. Met up with a couple of people from last tour an 2 saffas an 2 Sydney girls. Such a perfect day too. We have a bus (big plus) an aussie (real aussie) driver. We stopped off at a place called Province?? looked like an island but just joined to the mainland so had a walk up to the chapel. Lots of nice houses up here compared to inland. We stopped off for a swim an some little rock jumping. A little bit warmer than out in the ocean. After that Patlentica Range came out ofthe distance, awsome mountains. We stayed at a place called Stari Grad, little town between the mountains an the sea in agreat little apartment with 3 of us. That night we had a cruise ... read more
