Geo: 38.7072, -9.13552So we are here in Lisbon. Flight was fine. We have the tiniest hotel room with a tombstone for a bed. The redeeming factor is maize and blue tiles in the bathroom. Lisbon is more hilly than you can imagine. No wonder they have funniculars (public transport that takes you up the hills). We have been wandering the streets soaking it all in. Took the ferry across the river to see Cristo Rei (giant Christ the Redeemer as in Brasil) up close. He is very big. Went to a church that has a huge relic collection and lots of gold (and blue, even the saints are UM fans). Also popped into the Port Wine Institute for a tasting. We learned a bit about the different styles of Port. The tile work here is amazing, ... read more

We have been without internet for three days. A night in Sagres,in the Pousada dos Infantes, at the end of the world. A hike to the Forteleza on the point in the morning to stretch our legs and thunder showers follow us wherever we go. On to Evora, an historic walled city in the Alentejo. More rain, intermittent. Got to town, or rather the base of the hill, outside the walls, at commuter time. Once around a couple of circulos and up the hill following Herv's unfailing sense of direction and we were at the Lo'is Pousada. It's where the bones are stored. It's an old city with a wonderful aquaduct built in the 15th century, still standing and working. More rain. Tortoises in the atrium of the convent where we stay. Last night we stayed ... read more

The weather on Terceira and Ponta Delgada was changeable - warm, sunny and thunderous rain. We rode the public buses to see more of the islands and had some wonderful food watching the storms roll in from the south Atlantic. Great fish to eat at every meal and decent wines or beers. Green country aptly named. It seemed every home along the bus routes out of the cities had a plot of land, a cow, chickens or turkeys and corn. the bus was an important connection between the outlying towns and schools and shopping. Had we not feared for our lives during the thunder storms, there are ample walking trails all over the islands. ... read more

well, i didnt find this website until i got back from my travels. i guess that is a good thing; now i get to relive everything in my head. i guess i should start from the beginning. got into lisbon on the 31st of july. i met my brother and walked around the beautiful architecture that makes up the capital of portugal. (sorry there are no fotos yet, but i will try to put them up soon enough). i was very impressed with the buildings, and the way each building complemented of one another, especially when you see them in the hills. beautiful weather was with us the two day we were there. only complaint was the north-east part of the city, the more "modern", "newer" part. it seemed, but i could be very wrong, that ... read more

18h33 - Chegada a Newark. ... read more

I am not very gifted for writing so I will make it very short and hope that you will enjoy the few pictures. Lisbon is worth a few days break. There are many nice things to visit: the little streets in Alfama, the Bairro Alto, Belem .... and a ride in the typical old tram is a great way to discover part of the city.... read more

A fluent Portuguese speaker, knows all the best shopping spots, fearless van driver and knowable guide of the historic sights. What more could we ask? Oh… and she just happens to be A’s sister! We were finally in Portugal and very excited for several reasons. Most importantly we would be able to see Aunt Linda ,Uncle Ron and the girls. They have been living in Portugal for 15 years as missionaries in Lisbon. However, we didn’t exactly have a smooth start to our visit. It happened again, a flight with a technical problem caused a long delay…this time we knew our family members were waiting and waiting at the wee hours of the morning. Surprise….your brother, sister in-law and kids are here for their visit now , only problem, we got to Lisbon around 3:00am. The ... read more

We over heated 5 tims in one day going over the alps. The starter motor went on me for a few days and the re vision mirror fell of. Aart from that shes still held togther with Duck tape and running fine. All of the above have been fixed or ... read more

We took a night bus from Algeciras to Sevilla to Lisbon. When we got here this morning at 6am we were pretty beat so we had a cabbie take us to a "cheap hotel close to the city center" which is exactly what he did. The place looke depressing but we didn´t care much. We hopped in the beds right away and slept for 3 hours, got up took our showers, and we left feeling refreshed. Unlike the place in Algeciras, Hotel Mar, which I would highly recomend, I wouldn´t exactly recomend this place, Hotel Londres. Lisbon is not as developed as Spain and the buildings are dirty and covered in graffiti. I was not impressed, I guess I ecpected more from a capital city. We walked down to the river bank and got some breakfast ... read more
