And now for the final installment of our Mother/Daughter Summer 2006 Trip. If you ever want to see the July 4th firework show at Mount Rushmore you must be willing to spend a long time waiting. While we were waiting we enjoyed listening to several wonderful music groups. One of our favorites was a Native American Band named Brulee. We also spent time enjoying the museum and film about the building of Mount Rushmore. And now to continue our time travel trip from Summer 2006. On September 24, 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt declared Devils Tower to be America's first national monument. The Devils Tower seems to rise on the Wyoming horizon from nowhere. The monolith rises 1267 feet high and was formed when erosion stripped away the softer rock layers leaving the Tower. It was known by several northern plains tribes as Bears Lodge, it is a sacred site of worship for many American Indians. The 1,347 acre park is covered with pine forests and beautiful grasslands. It's been a year since we returned from our world trip. We just can't shake the travel bug so we took a Summer 2006 Road Trip. "A" had to stay home to work ...poor guy...so this was a "girls only" trip. We will visit Alabama, Tennessee, Iowa, South Dakota Missouri and Wyoming. A 5000 mile trip. First stop Alabama to visit grandparents and family. Then on to Chattanooga to see Rock City and Ruby Falls. Visiting Rock City is like stepping back into the past. A fluent Portuguese speaker, knows all the best shopping spots, fearless van driver and knowable guide of the historic sights. What more could we ask? Oh… and she just happens to be A’s sister!
