A Bond

Bond Family

With a name like Bond we couldn't resist the chance to have a global adventure. After 21 years in the corporate world "A" decided it was time to make a change and take a life-changing trip. It only took "J" and the girls...oh 2 seconds to agree! What follows is the story of what happens when two 40 somethings and their two daughters sale the house, find a babysitter for the pets and take off for the adventure of a lifetime. We think it will be a great "Bonding" experience! We promise to keep you updated.

And now for the final installment of our Mother/Daughter Summer 2006 Trip. If you ever want to see the July 4th firework show at Mount Rushmore you must be willing to spend a long time waiting. While we were waiting we enjoyed listening to several wonderful music groups. One of our favorites was a Native American Band named Brulee. We also spent time enjoying the museum and film about the building of Mount Rushmore. We arrived at 9 am and left the park around midnight. The fireworks were spectacular, really worth the wait...it was the highlight of our whole trip!! The next day we visited Bear Country USA, a drive-thru wildlife sanctuary. There were many animals native to the area including wolves, buffalo, elk and of course lots of bear. After driving through the park we enjoyed ... read more

And now to continue our time travel trip from Summer 2006. On September 24, 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt declared Devils Tower to be America's first national monument. The Devils Tower seems to rise on the Wyoming horizon from nowhere. The monolith rises 1267 feet high and was formed when erosion stripped away the softer rock layers leaving the Tower. It was known by several northern plains tribes as Bears Lodge, it is a sacred site of worship for many American Indians. The 1,347 acre park is covered with pine forests and beautiful grasslands. We saw many prairie dogs near the tower. The following can be found on the www.nps.gov/deto/ website... The Sioux Indian mythology said that: Once upon a time seven little girls were playing in the woods far from home and they came upon some ... read more

Don't worry we aren't stuck in some kind of "TIME TRAVEL WARP"...we really do know it's almost January 2007... sorry, it just took a little while to catch up on the latest travel blogs. So where-ever you are (maybe in the cold of winter) just sit back, snuggle up and pretend it's summer again. After a long drive to Iowa from Tennessee we finally arrived for a warm and sunny visit with "A's" parents. As an added bonus we had a wonderful visit with Linda and the girls. Then on to South Dakota. We visited Sioux Falls and drove to the little town of DeSmet. Mom enjoyed seeing all the Little House on The Prairie places. It's always been one of her favorite TV shows. Okay maybe the teeage girls weren't as thrilled about it...but someday ... read more

It's been a year since we returned from our world trip. We just can't shake the travel bug so we took a Summer 2006 Road Trip. "A" had to stay home to work ...poor guy...so this was a "girls only" trip. We will visit Alabama, Tennessee, Iowa, South Dakota Missouri and Wyoming. A 5000 mile trip. First stop Alabama to visit grandparents and family. Then on to Chattanooga to see Rock City and Ruby Falls. Visiting Rock City is like stepping back into the past. It's truly an old fashioned tourist trap type of place, which is what makes it so unique. There's something oddly sweet about all the little gnomes and fairies mixed among the trails and caves. Of course taking 2 teenage girls put a whole new spin on the place! They had so ... read more

Since this is our last stop on our world trip and our next destination is home, we know some of you may still be waiting for those letters and postcards. You know... like those crazy t-shirts that say "My Mom and Dad went to -------- and all I got was this stupid t-shirt!" The real truth is we decided the best way to describe Norway was in postcards because around every corner there seems to be another picture perfect postcard scene. Norway has been a special place for us because "A's" grandfather and famliy came from Norway. They left to settle in Iowa in the early 1900's. "A" had a great time searching for his roots. Norway's amazing rugged beauty is impossible to capture in words only. So sit back... let your fingers do the clicking.... ... read more

A Tale Of Two Germany’s Like any classic fairytale Germany’s story includes hero’s, dark villains, dramatic scenery and a hopeful ending. It is a land of majestic castles surrounded by enchanted forests and quaint villages. A story that also includes mad kings, bleak times and sinister rulers. Before we get too poetic or educational on you, we just want to add…WE LOVE GERMANY (we may have been influenced by the large portions of the best food we’ve had in Europe. A great example of one of Germany’s charming villages is Garmisch. We wanted to be sure to visit it for sentimental reasons. Back in the dark ages, the US government gave J’s family a free trip to Germany. Well, okay… the Army had a few strings attached. J’s dad was stationed in Germany for 3 years. ... read more

Sure, we've hear all the stories of the seedy side of Amsterdam! Nevertheless, this is a Family World Trip so we took it as a challenge to search out the G rated side of things. Yes it does exist and we have the pictures to prove it. We do have to include one little confession… Some of the places we really enjoyed were actually not right in the city. With only a short drive to the surrounding area we found many great places for the whole family. So here’s the proof…. ... read more

A fluent Portuguese speaker, knows all the best shopping spots, fearless van driver and knowable guide of the historic sights. What more could we ask? Oh… and she just happens to be A’s sister! We were finally in Portugal and very excited for several reasons. Most importantly we would be able to see Aunt Linda ,Uncle Ron and the girls. They have been living in Portugal for 15 years as missionaries in Lisbon. However, we didn’t exactly have a smooth start to our visit. It happened again, a flight with a technical problem caused a long delay…this time we knew our family members were waiting and waiting at the wee hours of the morning. Surprise….your brother, sister in-law and kids are here for their visit now , only problem, we got to Lisbon around 3:00am. The ... read more

I use a sink to wash my underpants! This Travelblog is by "a" and "j" Mom and Dad thought it would be a good idea if we wrote this particular travelblog entry. Mom seems to think you want to hear our side of the story. ::rolls eyes:: We’re so happy to be writing this one and sparing you the cheesy “Tour de France” blog you were going to get. ::Just Joking, Mom and Dad!:: It all began when we left Switzerland to journey to France. Our drive was fascinating beyond all comprehension (If you didn’t know, we were kidding). Honestly it was a rainy, depressing and long ride to France. ::sighs:: Thankfully, a had her 26 Queen C.D.s to keep her entertained for six hours. We sat and watched the rain patter on the windows for ... read more
