I wake slowly to the sounds of bees humming. Behind that is another layer of sound with waves lapping on the sandy beach and a few bird noises... Above the beach is a cliff of Orange Limestone. It is partly obscured by the forest. The climbing is steep and aggressive, with good holds and powerful moves. One is well warmed up on arrival from the hard jungle-trek to get there... Back in the afternoon to have a cool swim, refresh the body before a meal and some guitar and stretching before bed. On a rest day one can 'borrow' a pedal boat and cicumnavigate the nearby island, or just chill... ... read more

Thats right! More from Lisbon. We visited some great stuff today. Belem Tower being one. Went to downtown Lisbon with the dad. He was pushed, he claims, to the ground by some old Portugese ladies. This is not true. My dad has a history of falling down 1-2 times every trip. IT HAPPENS. At frist i have the feeling of i hope he's okay, but that quickly passes to one of hilarity. He hurts his foot and cant keep up with a young 24 year old man. I leave him behind to visit an art show i have wanted to see the entire time we have been here. I left him in Lisbon, boarded a train to Estoril and made my way to the art exizibit. It was excellent, and the best part is that i ... read more

The title dosent do much, but this has the potential of being an excellent blog. We arrived in Protugal around 7 am their time. In reality its 2 in the morning and my dad dosent look to happy. What does this mean to me? Time to annoy him. Any chance i get to exact revenge is the perfect time! We make way from downtown Lisbon to our hotel room in Cascais pronounced cashcaish. Prior to this trip I viewed a tv show that claimed Portugal as on of the least touristed Europen citys, i now know why. We arrive to your normal Euro room. Overlooking a beautiful city i can see the water, IM HOME. My dad wants to sleep but i cant. Im in Europe! I make way down to the seaside walk. Have i ... read more

The last day in Lisbon, we had a few hours to do some last desperate shopping! Håvard was looking for jack-cables and a stage-tuner, and Siri was looking for cakes. We went out to the ENORMOUS shopping mall Colombo! We took the metro(blue line) to Colegio Militar/Luz, the station was just beneath the mall. The mall was so big that we got lost a couple of times! Siri spent 20 minutes just looking for a shop that sold baby-clothes(for Håvards niese...)...and another 20 minutes finding back to the café where Håvard was sitting drinking his cafezinho. We also got a quick look at Estadio Luz, the homestadium of Benfica. After sucking in the last last rays of sun, we entered the taxi, and headed for the airport! We were both very sad, because after 4 days ... read more

It was a very very hot day, and we decided to go out to Belem. We were recommended to take tram no. 15 out there - because the trams themselves are an attraction, and that the tram drives along the river Tague, very nice. We stood at Praça do Comercio waiting and waiting......until a local guy came up to us and told us that it would be a better idea to take the bus to Cais do Sodré, there were more buses for Belem from there. So we did, and it was a smart thing to do! We arrived in Belem, and the first thing we did was to eat "pastel de nata" from Pasteis de Belem for brunch in the park! The cakes are the best in the world!! They are a bit warm, soft ... read more

From Sintra we drove out to the Atlantic Ocean and the fishermans village Ericeira! We believe Ericeira is a popular sunday-trip-destination, and since the weather was extremly good there was a lot of people on the way in and out of Ericeira. The drive out there was very nice, through small sleepy villages, up and down hills and valleys. The roads in Portugal are in good condition, and it is very easy to find the way. We arrived approx. at 6 p.m, just in time to take a walk around the village and have a look at the boats before the sun set. The boats in Ericeira was small and colorful. When the fishermen come back from the days fishingtrip, they drag their boats on land. The boats were made to handle that, they had pieces of ... read more

7 a.m: Wake up! Breakfast. Bus to the airport! 9.a.m: Picking up the rental car. We had booked one in advance, since our travel agent had a good deal. We strongly recommend renting a car from the airport because 1) it is very easy to go from the airport to the highways out of Lisbon, and 2) unless you have no fear at all you don't want to drive around in central Lisbon in a car that is not yours. 10.a.m: Arriving Sintra, an old village some 30 kms northwest of Lisbon. Since this was a Sunday, we were accompanied by about half of Lisbon's population (Sintra seems to be a very popular Sunday destination for the Portuguese...). The small town of Sintra is built up by small, pittoresque houses, narrow streets, and older buildings (neo-gothic). ... read more

Yesterday's disappointments were soon forgotten because of a king size cornflakes dispenser, bacon, scrambled eggs and great coffee in the breakfast hall. The weather was good, cloudy but warm. We went down Avenida Liberdade (one of the mainstreets downtown), eager to see upper town Bairro Alto as well as Castelo São Jorge and the neighboring Alfama with its pittoresque, steep and narrow streets. Siri's passion for cats, in combination with her brand new digital camera, made us stop several times to take pictures of the local animal life. After some time in Bairro Alto we went to the other side of the city center to catch the charming, old tram no.28 to Castelo São Jorge. The 15-minute-trip from Praca Martim Moniz was excellent through steep streets making unexpected turns left and right only a few inches ... read more

We (Siri and Håvard) went to Lisbon for four days, in order to get away from Norwegian winter (-15 degrees centigrade), to practice some Portuguese, and to explore on of the finest cities in Europe. After a pleasant flight with some top quality beer in Munich on the way, we landed at Aeroporto de Lisboa at midnight local time. The taxi voucher that the guide book advised us to buy turned out to be twice as expensive as a normal taxi ride from the airport to the hotel, and 20 times as expensive as taking a regular bus. Lesson no.1 learnt. After a neckbreaking taxi ride to Hotel Lisbon (Rua Barata Salgueiro), we checked in and went out for a lively night in downtown Lisbon. However, it was cold and empty and everything was closed! Until ... read more

Well this is starting to sound more like a sickness journal lol and I do apologize but I promise that as soon as Rafa is well u'll all be reading about places to visit in and around Portugal. Well Rafa had a fever all day yesterday again, so at Lunch time hubby decided it was time for another Docs visit. Again we were told it was the flu or some virus...yeah like ok pick one:(((. I was really pissed off with all this, as we all know a fever has a reason for being, so in the evening we took him to Hospital Garcia da Horta. Here after 3 Docs had examined him they reached my conclusion, and decide to run some tests on him. After a short wait we were told that the urine was ... read more
