Raininess Makes Me Lumpy Lazy Jacks...a strange meeting place We stuck around Lazy Jacks last night after posting the blog. There's live music every night so we figured we might as well stick around and listen. Kel talked the cook into making us Nachos despite the fact the kitchen had closed. There were pretty special nachos...made with doritos (up near the top of Kel's favorite foods). As the live music ended (near midnight) one of the local characters Peter the Swed came up to us and struck up a conversation. Despite his broken English and drunkenness, he was quite a nice guy. Told us this was the absolute worst time to be in Europe. he kept saying something along the lines of, "In Sweden right now...no coffee....no fun...just work and hockey...like Canada...stupid Canadians...absolutely no fun...you ... read more

A Day of Travel through the Countryside Our Final Night in Evora Last night we were plagued with pretty strong rain which dampened the spirit of Evora (pun intended). We went searching for a restaurant which was supposed to have funky food but alas did not find it and got tired of traipsing through the rain. We fell back on a closer and easier to find restaurant called Mr. Pickwick’s, which strangely is not British but Portuguese. The food was good hardy Portuguese fare. I had a great Portuguese bread soup which is made with stock, bread, pork and strangely enough a hard boiled egg. It was really very good! Kel went with non-Portuguese fair, beef stroganoff and onion soup. She was really pleased with the food because it was comfort food for a cold ... read more

In a last ditch effort to get some sun without going to another continent further south I had caught a bus to Lagos in to stay at the Rising Cock hostel. It turned out to be almost exclusively filled with australians, even had a flag on the wall, it was run by a Portugese lady who we all called "Momma" and her two sons. Had a great sleep and consequently woke up really early and learned that this hostel does not do early starts, but breakfast is included so i was happy to wait. I went for a walk around the city and took a few pictures, its not a big place so i had covered it within 2hrs, but when i got back to the hostel I was still first to breakfast! Scrambled eggs on ... read more

Lagos: beachy, party atmosphere. We had fun. Met some dreadlock guys, older property buying Brits, did fire shots and were unable to get late night food, no matter how fastidious we were. I added pictures, to see all of them DOUBLE CLICK ON THE PICTURE OF GERI AND I IN LONDON. THIS WILL GET YOU TO THE OTHER PICTURES.... read more

Lynfield & Friends, The English summer was coming to an end, and an exhausted Mr. Jacobsen needed some much needed relaxation. Lagos in Portugal looked and sounded like a nice place to visit. So, I persuaded my flatmate Jody Gibbons to stop what she was doing and to come to. Here's what happened... Enjoy, Aaron. P.S - No, Jody & I are not an item...the "Aaron's girlfriend" title is still up for grabs!... read more

Well, I like Lagos. And I like my sister Amy. I can´t belive I ever wanted to go home early! I would have missed out on soo much! My sister Amy and I are very very similar in some ways, but also very different in others, so we´ve both been learning a lot from each other, it´s been seriously amazing! She´s like me in ten years, so I can see the direction that I´m headed, ya know? Since we´ve been here we have basically just been lounging on the beach, getting tan, shopping in the street markets, and eating at fantastic little restaurants. Sound like fun? You have no idea. Because not only am I doing all this great stuff, but I´m doing it all with the coolest girl in the whole world, so it makes ... read more

(august 3rd and 4th 2005)well, the train ride to lagos was amazing. the first half was on a typical european train, nothing exciting. the couple that was sitting next to us seemed more like brother and sister. they argued and looked exactly alike. anyways, we had to make a connection in a very small town. it was a very warm day, but the heat was not bad at all. what bothered us was the fact that this was a precursor of the things to come. since my brother came to portugal for a couple of months, he had the worst travelling lugage one can think of. he had my huge jeep bag, that the only good thing about it is that you can roll it, his patented grey bag that he uses all the time, and ... read more
