The story goes as follows: Early one night, at 4:30am, a door across from the Rising Cock Hostel opens and a backpack comes flying out, crashing to a halt square in the middle of the narrow street. There's a bit of a ruckus inside (no, I can't describe this ruckus), 30 seconds pass and an Aussie stumbles out, only to have the door slammed behind him moments later. Disheartened and dejected, the evicted backpacker slowly gathers his gear, takes one last look at the flat, and pleads to no one in particular, "I've GOTTA get out of this loopy town." Welcome to LAGOS, Portugal. Fittingly, my own whacky trek through Lagos begins with a chance encounter to end all chance encounters. On a never-ending bus ride from Sevilla, we get to the end of the line ... read more

Hello everybody! So, this last weekend I decided I needed some time away from the cold and windy weather of Ireland and decided to head down to sunny Portugal!! And it was seriously the best four days of my life! I'm not kidding. My friend Erin and I caught an early flight from Dublin and, after much delay due to the french strikes, we eventually arrived safe and sound in Faro. We weren't having the best luck with the time schedule and had to wait another hour for the bus, but we were happy just sitting at a nearby cafe and getting some sandwiches and ice cream. Boy oh boy did it feel good to have the sun on our backs! I mean, I hadn't felt the sun like that for a long time. The bus ... read more

Leaving Lisbon, we headed south in the rental car to Sines and then Sagres. Rain follows us to lunch in Sines, which is building a new, state of the art port for shipping. Back on the road to Sagres and the Pousada Infantes, located at the tip of the Iberian Peninsula. This also happens to big a big surf town, in the Hawaiian sense of the word. Two great forts on the bluffs looking out to the wild Atlantic Ocean. Along the drive, we passed fields of corn, cork trees and wind generators. The roads are in new condition, for the most part. Some toll, whixch tend to be less crowded, but the free roads are in good condition, just narrower and busier. The signage is fairly clear, until you reach the towns. Then watch out ... read more

Last Thursday I went with the program to see a flamenco show. Two dancers, a guitarrist, and a singer. It was pretty amazing. Later that night, I ran into my friend, Anne Taylor, from U of M, and decided to join her and a couple of her friends in Lagos, Portugal for the weekend. It turns out that two of the girls are one of my oldest friend's best friends from college. How random!? I just barely caught the bus (I literally got there at 7:30 and the bus pulled out at 7:31), but did manage to get on board for an amazing, crazy weekend. We stayed at one of the most sketchy, disgusting, but fun hostels ever, Camel Toe, brother of the Rising Cock. Yeah...that might give you an idea of what it was like. ... read more

-Portugal Rules - Gutted this is the end of the tour but a great place to finish it. We made the most of our time here as we new that the tour was coming to an end. We definately partied the hardest here, made the most of our hire car (burnouts and drifts on Mcdonalds trays) and genally went hard whateva we were doing. The weather in Portugal was awesome, not quite as hot as Spain and the water was cooler too. The beaches are awesome and are usually surrounded by awesome rock faces. We stopped at a wicked surf beach for a couple of days, and watched the pros who had come from all over to get a bit of Portugal surf (and we smoked ourselves trying to bodysurf in the waves. We also ... read more

Pozdravljeni!
