Hey all, Yeah, so we have been slacking quite a bit with our blogging. As our trip nears it's end we are spending as much time in the sun and at the sights as we can. Since our last entry we have moved around a lot, but dare not miss some of the places we have been. One of the most beautiful cities we have been to is Lagos in southern Portugal. It is a small, laid back town, but because of the scenery it is not one to miss. While here we stayed with an amazing lady in her apartment. She and her husband were in their late 70's and had two bedrooms that they rent out to travelers on a budget. It was so nice. She cooked for us, did Brandon's laundry and ... read more

i have fallen in love!!! his name is Portugal and i never wanna leave him lol!!! maybe i loved Madrid so much cuz it was hot...or maybe it was the palm trees or the spanish guys but i actaully realized that i was sick of the cities!!! it was fun and great to explore but i was so ready for a beach so we took a night train to Lisbon, Portugal and thats when i fell in love!! Lisbon is small, its friendly, its easy to get around, its on a gorgeous bay and half an hour away are some fantiastic beaches!!! ( although the water is freezing) we went to a few beaches and enjoyed the tanning and the waves were pretty huge and kinda fun to play with till my body turned to ... read more

We were very excited to be going to the beach town of Lagos today, after the weather was against us at San Sebastian. Our one and only aim: sit on the beach, swim and generally do nothing. However, not everything turned out quite as we had planned… On the way there, we had a quick exit off the train at Tunes, to transfer onto the train to Lagos, and just as the train doors were closing I realised my day-pack was still on the train! Oh no!!! Us, along with everyone else on the platform panicked and we tried to run back on the train, but it started puling away just as we realised what had happened! James and I went to the information counter at the train station to try and sort some thing out. ... read more

Directions: Cross boulevard, find BP gas station, follow street, street parallel to pharmacy, come to small white building with street on both sides, take left (cultural center), third street on right. Dina's Guesthouse. After a six hour long bus ride from Sevilla (trains didn't run), these were the only directions we had to find our next home. Lagos, a small beach village, luckily offered a large amount of english speaking population who were eager to help us find our way. After many wrong turns, we found our way and were introduced to a new set of friends. We found ourselves in the company of Pamela (The Swiss Girl) and two California boys (Kyle and John). On our way to dinner with these three, Pamela tells us that we must stop at a restaurant so that ... read more

AHHHHHH!!!! LAGOS Lets just say...Laura and I love, love, love, lovvvvvveeeeeeee Lagos!!!!!!!!! We are about ready to drop anchor here for the rest of our trip. To give you an example of why I love Lagos so much.....Laura and I decided to go on a boat ride around some grottos. When we got back that guy the guy that booked our boat ride offered us his own homemade red wine, bread and cheese. And it may sound weird in writing about a stranger offering us wine and all but it was in a public area and I donºt think he did it for any other reason but kindness and possible because he had spent some time in New York and mentioned how much he liked New Yorkers. We also stayed in a cute little pension ... read more

So, iºm in lagos, portugal...sitting at a bar....pints only 2.50 euros....with free internet...canºt beat it!!!! The trek from dublin to lagos was a long one, but well worth it. We couldnºt find a hostel in dublin our last night (stupid us, we didn´t plan ahead for a friday night in ireland), so we slept in the airport instead...flew to porto, portugal at 925am, and arrived somewhere around noon. We took the metro from the airport to the train station for only 1.85 euros...not bad. We then made a reservation for the train, 4 euros each leg of the trip (portugal requires reserverations for every train trip, which sort of sucks....considering we paid 985 USD for a 2 month train pass). We headed from porto to lisboa....only to make another reservation to tunes....where we changed trains ... read more

Two weekends ago (man, we're behind on this blog!) my parents came to visit us in Portugal - my mom for the second time and my dad for the first. They had been on a hiking trip in Tuscany the previous week (they lead very rough lives) and were able to arrange their flights so they came through Lisbon on the way home. Jason and I rented a car in Coimbra and met my parents at the airport in Lisbon on Saturday. We drove south from the airport to the Algarve and stayed in Lagos again, this time at a resort within walking distance of downtown. We had a two bedroom apartment that looked over the pool and had a huge balcony, where we spent all of the time that we were "home." On Sunday ... read more
