VENICE, ITALY: Lisa and I arrived at our campgrounds in Venice on the 4th of July, trust me, I definitely was missing those barbeques and fireworks at home...but, I was in Venice....which is so much better! The campground was quite outside of the city, and we arrived later in the evening...so we just headed to the bar to treat ourselves since it was the 4th. We stayed longer than intended, and danced with a ton of americans, who were enjoying the holiday as well. The next day Lisa and I walked around Venice all day with the intentions of getting lost...because it is relatively difficult to read a map, and not get lost. Venice is breathtaking, the canals, bridges, and boats are so picturesque...you definitely find yourself snapping photos nonstop. We finally made our way ... read more

CINQUE TERRE, ITALY: Finally, cinque terre, with it's gorgeous rugged coastline and crazy hikes. Lisa and i arrived in monterosso, the northern-most town, thinking that our hostel was located here. Considering that when we booked our hostel, hostelworld said it was in monterosso. To our dismay, it was not....the hostel was located in a town called Biassa, several kilometers from monterosso. We found this out the hard way, the lady at information gave lisa a map with directions to Ostello Tramonti....apparently this woman was crazy and the hostel was an imaginary figure in her head or she was just playing a cruel joke....we walked all over hilly Monterosso.....no hostel. We had to go all the way back to La Spezia and take a bus to Biassa from there....luckily we made it. We barely caught the ... read more

TUSCANY, ITALY: Lisa and I spent four nights in the Tuscany region in Italy. The first two were spent at a campground outside of Grossetto, a small city on the western coast of italy. Transportation to and from the campground was a bit pricy, so we ended up staying at the campgrounds for both nights. We again stayed in a 2 person house tent, a tent with literally enough space for the two cot-like beds inside. The campground had a nice beach across the road, where we enjoyed the sunset on our first night there. Our other two nights in Tuscany were spent in the Chianti region in a little town called Tavarnelle. On our full day there we took a bus to the medieval town of San Gimignano. This town was gorgeous, as well ... read more

When in Rome

ROME, ITALY: Lisa and I arrived in Rome on the 23rd. We chose to stay at a campground outside of the city due to it's extremely low cost accommodation. We stayed in a house tent, which is a tent with two cots in it. Sadly, it probably tops some of the accommodation we've had on this trip. The only problem was, Rome was ungodly hot while we were there....so we went to bed late, and woke up early. On Sunday the 24th, we headed to the Vatican museums, which usually cost 16 Euros admission. Luckily, for us anyways, the last Sunday of every month is free. We didn't arrive to the museum until 830, it opened at 9. The line was thousands of people long, and surprisingly we entered at 1030am....but, the line moves much ... read more

Beautiful Positano

AMALFI COAST, ITALY: POSITANO Ah, how gorgeous the town...how far away we were from it. haha...actually, we planned on staying in Sorrento, which is where our hostel said it was....well, the name of it was Youth Hostel Sorrento...but actually, it was in the town before sorrento (sant agnello), which was fine....except for the mile long hike...uphill...to get to it. At midnight (because it took us 15 hours to get there from switzerland) with a 40 pound pack on your back.....does not make for fun times. But anyways, the 2 days we were there, Lisa and I headed to Positano, a beautiful town along the amalfi coastline. Both days we escaped the heat, and headed for the beach. Now, considering how beautiful positano was, the beach was not the same. The sand...well the rocks...were black. So, ... read more

Ah, finally out of italy, and finally finding cheap internet in austria! GRYON, SWITZERLAND: Lisa and I headed to Gryon after the interlaken-skydiving adventure. We stayed at the Chalet Martin, a wonderful hostel full of many people from all over the world. Gryon is a tiny village in the Swiss Alps (close to Bex), with population 1000...i know...makes pulaski look huge. And, the average age of the town's inhabitants is 60+..so a quiet village it is. We spent 5 nights here to relax.....sort of like a vacation from our vacation. The evening we got in, we headed to the grocery store for supplies,...finally a hostel with a kitchen! Now, switzerland is outrageously expensive...but because we could cook all of our meals, we saved loads of money. The hostel offers a wine tasting event every saturday ... read more

INTERLAKEN: So sometime on the 13th lisa and i arrived in Interlaken, Switzerland....after over 12 hours on a train...we arrived at our hostel....in the pouring rain. The hostel we stayed at was called Funny Farm....and it was definitely a party hostel (as are most hostels in interlaken, considering it's an adventure town). So, we made our way to the bar behind the hostel, and it didn't take much considering we ate practically nothing that day. We then headed to the nightclub at our hostel, which had almost noone in it......instead, we went to the night club at funny farm's rival hostel...Balmer's. They were having a beach party, like they hold every wednesday night. Lisa and I were surprised at the prizes that they give away. The DJ kept announcing some prize about skydiving....i, being quite ... read more

Ah, finally back to a computer...it's been so long. BARCELONA: After our return from Morrocco, Lisa and I ended up spending the night in the Madrid airport, because our flight got in so late. Okay, so we really didn't want to spend a night on accommodation because we were heading to Barcelona so early in the morning. The night we arrived we checked out Las Ramblas, which are pedestrian streets filled with shops and people....oh the people. After a restful night in our pension...we headed out to hit up the sights for the day. First, we went to Park Guell, a park filled with Gaudi architecture. (Gaudi architecture is amazing, much different than anything i've seen before) We then headed to a Labrynth park, literally a park with a labrynth in it. I must say, ... read more

Ah, we´ve survived a week in Morocco, which was a much harder than i had originally expected. Lisa and I began our trip in Marrakech on the 2nd, after flying in from Madrid. We planned a full week here due to our preconceived notion that it would be quite difficult to get to the desert for some camel riding. Turns out this was not the case....so here goes.... MARRAKECH First arriving in Marrakech was incredibly overwhelming, to say the least. We took a bus in from the airport and showed him where our hostel was. He dropped us off at the Djemma el Fna and told us to go left. Hilarious. The Djemma el Fna is Africa´s largest medina, or city square. It is filled with snake charmers, storytellers, boxing, people selling everything, etc. There ... read more

So, iºm in lagos, portugal...sitting at a bar....pints only 2.50 euros....with free internet...canºt beat it!!!! The trek from dublin to lagos was a long one, but well worth it. We couldnºt find a hostel in dublin our last night (stupid us, we didn´t plan ahead for a friday night in ireland), so we slept in the airport instead...flew to porto, portugal at 925am, and arrived somewhere around noon. We took the metro from the airport to the train station for only 1.85 euros...not bad. We then made a reservation for the train, 4 euros each leg of the trip (portugal requires reserverations for every train trip, which sort of sucks....considering we paid 985 USD for a 2 month train pass). We headed from porto to lisboa....only to make another reservation to tunes....where we changed trains ... read more
