The African Queens - Emma Peal

We are Geri and Allison, in court, arch nemeses, but in reality, fabulous world travelers. Portugal for the port, Andalusia for the wine and tapas, and Africa for the camels. Allons nous!

Today we took the boat over to Turkey and shopped, ate and smoked a hookah. We did not buy any hash, did not get thrown into a prison where our feet got beaten and did not have to escape. The only similarity to the movie is that we were in the same country. Nonetheless, we had a great time and met some very nice people. [View Full Entry]

As we last left you, we were trying to figure out which of us would drive the island's cliffs while severely impaired. Geri won the reflex contest and I got into the passenger seat with a bump on my head. I don't know why she had to use a brick for the reflex test....anyway, we drove down the Western coast of Rhodes along the ocean on a cliffside drive. We stopped at an ancient ruin city, and unlike anywhere else we have ever seen, were allowed to climb all over it. So we went into a Hellenistic era house, walked down [View Full Entry]

We arrived safely and I believe are known across the island already due to "someone's" antics. :) Geri's luggage was ransacked by the baggage handlers and she got her Ipod dock stolen. Curiously, they also stole my Splenda. We have narrowed our manhunt down to a baggage handler who likes music and is on a diet. Luckily Geri has travel insurance that should cover it. We learned from the local youth that the bars do not begin to have anything going on until midnight, and people usually go out until 6am, at which time they get ready for work. The bars [View Full Entry]

What do Geri and Allison get when they French kiss monkeys and lick hooves? You guessed it. A cross between Ebola and Hoof Mouth. We have been paying dearly for that night of bestiality with every fluid in our angry little bodies. Not to disappoint you animal fetishts, truth be told, it was probably the cheese sandwich Geri and I shared orrrr, the doorknob to the train bathroom that we licked that caused us to spend 3 straight days in bed, but let's not cast blame. Instead, I'll describe it so you can sympathize with us and be really nice to [View Full Entry]

Geri and I arrived at Hotel Batha after a 16 hour journey and met up with Phil this morning. We hired a guide, Sayeed, to take us into the souk , the labarynth of shops and stalls surrounding the Medina because it is so big and maze like that tourists usually get lost. WOW. It was really amazing! There were people selling: figs; nuts; leather; fabric; copper pots. There were very narrow paths where people would be trying to get by each other and then a donkey would come down the path loaded with leather or spices. They put car tire [View Full Entry]

Ok, so we made it safely to Tangiers. We got up early and took a bus, a ferry, and now a train down to Fes. We,ll arrive around 10:30pm and meet up with Phil, myfriend who is joining us. As soon as we got our train tickets, we asked for a restaurant and were taken to Pizza Hut. Very tasty. We are looking forward to shopping in the souks and buying lots of carpets and leather. Ok, so after we lugged the 75 bottles of wine to be exported up the 237 stairs, we couldn´t mail it from Lisbon because driving in Lisbon is insane. So we put the wine in the exportation box that we checked as luggage from Chicago, that I brought back from Napa. So now we are carrying 75 bottles of wine, 2 boxes, and 3 bottles of extra virgin olive oil. We then get to Lagos, Portugal and try to mail it, but it is Sunday. So we pack it back into the car, where my mother is being hit in the [View Full Entry]

Ok, so we made it out of Lagos a few hundred brain cells lighter....we had to hop a bus and then pick up the 2nd rental car in Spain - we´ve decided, renting a car in Europe is VERY stressful, and the mopeds rule the road. Went to Granada, raced the scooter gangs, saw the Alhambra, and then got out. Geri was driving that city day and almost fist fought several teenagers with pink mopeds. My money was on Geri. We then went to a town called Jaen, where we stayed in a castle on the top of a mountain. Serious [View Full Entry]

Lagos: beachy, party atmosphere. We had fun. Met some dreadlock guys, older property buying Brits, did fire shots and were unable to get late night food, no matter how fastidious we were. I added pictures, to see all of them DOUBLE CLICK ON THE PICTURE OF GERI AND I IN LONDON. THIS WILL GET YOU TO THE OTHER PICTURES. [View Full Entry]
