Today is rainy. I've just finished my morning sessions of Italian and have one hour until the afternoon session. We're having grilled cheese and soup. The exciting thing about today so far is that I've discovered that every Tuesday and Saturday people come from Deruta with ceramics. I won't have to go there at all because they bring the ceramics right to the center of town. I bought a small plate today for 25 Euro, though the listed price was 28-something. I spoke a little to the man and woman who were selling them on my way to and from class. They were packing up when I bought the plate from them, because of the rain, but I'll go back Saturday and look around more. I'll keep my eye out for tiles, but all I've seen ... read more

I got very lost today, for the first time. It was really good for me. I had to ask a woman for directions. She didn't speak any English, and was also foreign, from the Ukraine. We used what little Italian we had and she helped me a lot. Eventually I spoke to an Italian woman who directed me back to the Piazza IV Novembre, because I knew I could find my way from there. We began classes in Italian today. I like my professore. His name is Francesco, and I think I'm going to learn a lot. It helps that right after class I have to go out to the Piazza and buy a pizza for lunch or whatever it is I need. I had three hours of Italian in the morning, then attempted to find ... read more

So yesterday morning my four roommates and I moved in to our wonderful apartment. They told us not to expect it to be very nice, or have internet, or a washing machine, or a TV. My apartment has it all. The internet is the very nicest, and I think we're the only ones who have it; at least we're the only ones I've talked to so far. Exciting stuff. The landlord is an adorable middle aged Italian man named Mauro. He's very nice and showed us how everything works. His English is pretty good as well. He has a wife and daughter who is almost three. Both he and his wife work in medicine. I think he works with pharmaceuticals, and she is a pediatrician. Hopefully we'll get to meet his family eventually. When we first ... read more

The last time I talked to anyone in the United States I sat on the floor in the airport in New York. I recognized that the group of people sitting together who were about my age were probably headed to Perugia as well. They were almost all from Elon University in North Carolina, which was terrifying. The flight was uncomfortable, and I had a hard time sleeping. I think my favorite part was seeing a couple of the boys in my group smile to each other when they heard the stewardess offer wine to everyone with the meal. We made it to Zurich, which is beautiful. I think I'm going to have to visit Switzerland someday, because landing there was a great way to begin a trip in Europe. We flew from Zurich to Rome, then ... read more

Fazia muito tempo que nao via o GG. Magrinho, calvo, cansado, quieto, cabelos prateados e aquele contorno claro na iris dos olhos indicando os seus 65 anos. "- Vou terminar o show antes do jogo final da Copa America: é Brasil x Argentina, viu?!" Me fez impressao... me emocionei... minhas lagrimas escorreram nos ombros do Ministro... Nada a ver o GG ministro!!! Ninguém falou de politica, melhor assim. O Gio e a Gilda sentiram nossa vibraçoes e se emocionaram também. So' eu ali com a letra K no nome. ... read more

All right, honestly I lied about the date. It's about amonth later than that, but I've been a jaded traveler and if weren't for the prodings of multiple parents I might just have never written anything. But everyone liked my London website SOOO much, I shall have to continue the tradition for my Italy experience. First things first: The flight. It was long. There was a change in time difference, and I played the typically cool outsider with blue hair, avoiding talking to all the lame first time abroad studiers on the flight with me. It has to be noted that as I was walking from one terminal to another in Switzerland I couldn't help but overhear the conversation of the American girls behind me (what with the American tendency of being so inexplicably LOUD) and ... read more

Yesterday after I got over my mopey self, went to the visitor information centre and got the low down on the chocolate factory. I made the call trying to speak italian but she couldn't get me so she politely told me in English that the factory was closed today and to call tomorrow-aaaaahhhhh! Unfortunatley I am leaving today so no chocolate tour for me although I think it will save me money as so many of you want me to send you some chocolate. I think that I am starting to turn a little Italian as I spent much of yesterday people watching and walking around and around. I found the books that I need for uni so that is good and I walked through ancient archways. I had my first real meal in a little ... read more

Hi all, I am in Perugia and it is cold. I hope you are all enjoying the weather and cricket there. I am staying at a place that is close to one of the most beautiful lookouts. The lady only speaks spanish and she doesn't understand me most of the time but she is very nice and she asked me how tall I was! She is quite small so I must seem like a giant to her. I am still a bit jetlagged, I woke up at three this morning and couldn't sleep at all. There are some very beautiful buildings here and I have really enjoyed walking around and looking at them this morning. Everything is still christmassy so when I went walking last night it was so lovely because they had fairy lights up ... read more

Okay, so it's about time I blog about my last few days in Perugia, Italy - it didn't end in Venice! Day 1 It was so great to finally hug Marissa and catch up with her. A little background for the readers: Marissa and I worked at The Daily newspaper at my university as classified ad reps. She left in June and the whole office was sad to see her go but excited for her new adventures. She is studying at the university in Perugia for a whole year! That night I arrived I basically just collapsed...that is, before exploring the city a bit. Yep, I just had to find out what Perugia had to offer so around 11:30 at night after one heck of a day, Marissa and I went on a walk around the ... read more

Well we finally got to the place and event that sent us to Italy in the first place, a wedding. The villa that everyone stayed at was incredible. It had a pool and was surrounded by hills, and driving around we discovered there was an infinite amount of little towns, each with their own unique character. The wedding itself was in Assissi, a beautiful little town on the side of a mountain. For you travelers out there I would strongly encourage staying in the Umbria region, so much to see and do, and so much calmer and laid back then Rome. For dinner the night prior to the wedding a hotel opened up its restaurant for business just as we had arrived and asked one of the locals to play the sax for our enjoyment ... read more
