I figure i could go to a few places in Italy but I have already seen most of Italy, i think the only places in Italy I want to see are Sicilia, Sanremo and Capri, maybe Calabria I am not so sure! But I know I am going to go to Torino and Aielli a few times to visit family, i think that will be the best part! SO the past day have been pretty boring, pretty much all we do in the first week is go to Italian for 4 hours and then cook something or go out to eat. And then i am pretty bummed /c i was supposed to go to Assisi this weekend but it is raining soo much over here, well it is just wet and ugly and dark, we have ... read more

SO! My first entry! I have been here since friday, and I know that could write pages and pages but i am going to stick with today. The reason I haven't been able to start my journal till now is because I have no internet in my apartment! Something that immediately reminds me that i am no longer in the U.S., instead I am writing this in the internet cafe close to my apartment. Let me just briefly explain my apartment. IT IS HUGGGGE! It has about 7 rooms with high ceilings, and an upstairs where the laundry room is. It is very Italian looking with jesus and Mary figurines everywhere, along with tiny beds and light blue wall paper and sofas, what an amazing apartment. The worst thing though is that the Italian government regulates ... read more

Hey : ) I've leaving for Italy on Wednesday, so I thought I'd make this and keep everyone updated! I hate the layout but you know. I won't have an address until I arrive in Perugia and I do have a cell phone, but it costs money of course, so I won't give that out unless anyone requests it. My Skype name is Ociana09 , so add me there instead and we'll talk : ) Here are a few pictures: ... read more

I'm pretty busy this week. I had five finals. I now only have one left, and it's Friday morning Italian. I just thought I'd put up pictures from the Christmas lights around town. They're all basically the same picture/place; I was aiming for pictures that weren't blurry. It's Corso Vannucci, Piazza IV Novembre/the fountain.... read more

Ciao a tutti. I don't know if my Mom has gotten to you first or I'm actually going to be the one to tell everyone. Last night Dateline NBC (a news show) taped a pizza workshop that Umbra set up for us. Dateline is doing a show on students in Perugia. In light of the murder that happend in Perugia last month the press is attempting to highlight what life in Perugia is like for American students. They will air the show on December 21st. I think Dateline is on during the weekend (Friday or Saturday night). Several of us from Umbra also got to help our resident author, Zach, to revise the student guidebook. This is the guidebook that all of us used to save our lives when we first got here. It has everything ... read more

I'll start with this last weekend and work backwards. (This entry is backdated, since I wrote most of it in a word document last week.) There is a train strike in France going on, which made me a little nervous, because I was taking an overnight train to visit Ann. I knew I was going to want to see someone from home around Thanksgiving, and, though I’m sure I would have been fine, it was really nice to know I was headed to see Ann when I was feeling particularly homesick Thursday evening. I left my apartment around seven and went to the Perugia train station. I brought my diary on the trip and spent the train ride from Perugia to Florence writing a long entry about study abroad, since I haven’t written in there since ... read more

Well, we managed to put together a pretty good Thanksgiving dinner. We all made a different dish or dishes and we even managed to have cranberry sauce from a can thanks to Shandra's boy friend who came to visit the other week. We managed to eat almost everything because we don't have room for leftovers in our fridges or microwaves to heat anything up. The most intersting item on our table had to be the gravy. It turned out purple! Kind of reminded us of Dr. Seuss. It actually was very good as was all of the food. I'm actually very amazed that we had such good food (it's hard to find the things you need to make a tday dinner in Italy). The next day Jackie, Rachel and I had our field trip to Florence ... read more

Well, according to my mother everyone’s been asking what I’ve been up too. One word: SCHOOL. Who would have thought they actually want us to do work while we’re here. I’ve been loaded down with papers and presentations (yay for end of the semester!). 1 paper down, 1 paper and 3 presentations to go! By the way, Leonardo da Vinci is not on my good side any more. Besides school work I’ve been hanging out with my friends (I’m really going to miss them) and shopping. I think I will go through shopping withdrawal when I come home. I now see how Italians spend 30% of their income on clothing. Hopefully I’ll be able to get everything home! It’s been freezing cold and abnormally cold for this time of year. Our heat is only on for ... read more

Our landlord made us pretty happy today. Internet is down at the apartment, which is contributing to why I haven't updated, or been on skype, or e-mailed the past few days. Mauro, our landlord, came over and called the company in charge of the phone/internet line, and they're working on it. We also couldn't figure out why our stove stopped working, and he showed us the switch we had apparently flipped off. He also told us that we could leave our heat on all day (we had been hearing otherwise) and explained how the system works. It was so cold in the apartment! The internet should be back up in another day or two, by next week at least. Today felt like roughing it (I recognize how spoiled we are). Julianna and I just sat and ... read more

Welcome to my self-indulgent ramblings that often exceed eight hundred words. :) This last week it was really nice to just be back in Perugia. Shannon and I didn't go out celebrating Halloween, instead we stayed in the apartment and watched How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. It was very cozy. I have a hard time celebrating Halloween if I haven't had some time in advance to think about a costume. Next year, maybe. This weekend Karly came to visit. It was so much fun having her here. I really liked showing her around Perugia. We had gelato, and the first night we baked an apple pie after we went to dinner at Perugia's best kept secret. We slept in the next morning, then went to a market that happens around this holiday in ... read more
