Today is the first time I've walked through the rain and been soaked. Thank goodness. I miss rains like that, even in Minnesota it's not quite the same. I've been doing this internship the past few weeks at a library that is part of a private foundation here in Perugia. Basically what I'm supposed to do is write short summaries of the 95 children's books they have. Most of the books are from the turn of the last century. Today I read parts of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass, and Peter and Wendy, as well as a couple of books of nursery rhymes. It was kind of interesting how many of the rhymes I recognized, but wouldn't be able to recite back. I've never read Peter Pan, and that was really fantastic. I just ... read more

Getting back into Perugia yesterday was such a relief. Today we started classes back up. My Italian disappeared startlingly quickly over the break. I almost started speaking in Spanish, and nearly threw out a "merci" when Francesco handed out a worksheet. Pathetic. It's nice to just be relaxing. I thought I'd put an entry up and just add some photos that I didn't put up before. My midterms went okay, so far. I have a feeling the political science midterm didn't go too well, just like Renaissance Art, but the two psychology midterms and Italian went well. That's all the news I have. Today, for the first time, I started to get an almost nostalgic feeling about how we're now past the half-way point, and study abroad will be coming to an end soon. I'm going ... read more

Well it was about time for fall break to show up. After a busy week filled with finals, which all went well-I think- I finally got to see my Mom. This has been the longest I've gone with out seeing someone in my family and it was really nice to see someone especially my Mom. Plans changed at the last minute and Jackie ended up not leaving until the day after Mom arrived so Mom and I crammed into my narrow twin bed. Mom got to experience our paper thin walls and found out we weren’t lying when we said it was cold and we have very little heat. We slept in really late on Saturday. Then we went to the market to get some food. We got a surprise when we got back to the ... read more

I'll write first about last weekend since I haven't done that yet. I went to Florence with my Renaissance Art class, or, rather, the other section of the Renaissance Art class since I missed my class's trip the weekend before to go to Tuscany. It was interesting being in Florence again; I think I'm getting pretty used to it. It's a nice town, but I think Perugia is a better place to study abroad. Julianna and I were both going, so we left together in the morning, and almost missed our train. Luckily, the train was 5 minutes late, so we had no problems. We went to the Uffizi museum, the second time for me, and our professor showed us around. It was nice to have a guide in the museum, and really fun looking at ... read more

I'll try to update again tomorrow or Friday before fall break gets going, because I think this entry is going to be short. Sorry I haven't been doing a better job of this. This week has been pretty hectic. We've done lots of reviewing, I had two papers due, and three tests. My papers are now out of the way, and one of the tests. I'm glad it's just two exams left. I like the feeling of tests a lot better, because even if I procrastinate, I usually end up doing okay, and once it's over, it's over. The papers were both for my psychology professor (she teaches both classes) and I think I did alright on them. Tuesday was terrible for me; I woke up at one in the afternoon. I think that's probably because ... read more

So yesterday was a lovely day indeed....we were surrounded by chocolate. We left Florence and arrived in Perugia the day before. After taking the wrong bus, ( which actually turned out to benefit us in the end because it showed us right where the Chocolate Festival would be taking place the next day) we finally got settled into our hostel, and went to the market for some food to make up some grub....we selected fresh pasta and broccoli....though very plain and simple, it was one of the best meals ever...I just get worn out going out to eat all the time. The next morning we ate breakfast in preparation for a day of indulging in some fine chocolate. We arrived at the festival around 10:30am I'd say....and there were vendors everywhere! Chocolate from all over the ... read more

Not much of interest has happened as far as classes and my daily activities I feel. Today I talked to Ann on the phone for the first time; that was really nice. I went to a travel agency and bought tickets to go see her in November, the weekend of Thanksgiving in America. I'm taking an overnight train Thursday night the 22nd, and an overnight train Saturday night the 24th. It'll be a pretty quick trip, but I think it will be really good to see her, and I really don't want to miss my classes, so that's how it's going to be. I'm not trying to visit a huge city or anything, so I think two full days and a night should be a good amount of time to get a nice feel for the ... read more

I'm sorry again for not updating sooner. I know some of you check more frequently than I update, and I don't mean to leave you wanting. Fun fact about tonight: two of my roommates, Shannon and Julianna are on Italian TV right now. They're with their Culture and Society class in Rome apparently in the TV studio watching this political discussion show. It's all in Italian and I don't really understand it. I always feel like my Italian is getting so much better when I'm sitting in Italian class, but once I get out into the world, I don't really understand much. We learned future tense last week, and this week we did conditional and futuro anteriore, which is used in situations like "once you have done ____, you will ____." Exciting stuff. Conditional is also ... read more

Okay, so I thought Perugia was beautiful but Tuscany is even more beautiful. I might be a bit biased since I prefer the country to the city and Tuscany was as close to being home as the Italian landscape can get. There were farms everywhere (I didn't realize how much I miss the farms until I came to Italy). Tuscany is exactly like all the pictures you see of it and sometimes even more beautiful. Photos don't do it justice, but Impressionist paintings do. We left Saturday morning for Villa Sabolini (the hotel we stayed in). Jackie and I got our own room to ourselves. Once we dumped our things in our room, which had a balcony we ran down to the garden which had a beautiful view of some of the rolling Tuscan hills. The ... read more

Oh my gosh. I am inlove with Perugia. Its like boulder and Girona and everything fabulous. In the hills between Rome and Florence lies this university-feel town filled with students studying abroad and chocolates. A friend from freshman year Jessie is studying there and I was so happy to see her. Her roommates were all super cool and amazing and actually everyone i met from the program seemed great. The crazyness is that while they are all studying abroad they seem to party ridiculousnessly every night and wake up the next morning with their life in waht feels like shambles. I had had only a few wild nights so far so i deemed this a night to go crazy....... and geez did i go nuts. infact i dont even really want to talk about it. haha ... read more
