Here I am in my father's country. Sort of. There are a lot of pubs here, but no lawn mowers, so we're 50/50 here. I wish I had my green coat so I could do my famous jig. All the plane, train, bus business of today really wore me out. I seem to have a knack for getting to a city and being confused as to where my hostel is. The people here are FAR friendlier than London already--so that's been nice. I had a wee bit of a delay on my flight, so I didn't actually land until about 5pm, so by the time I took the bus (the driver hit on me, he had nice blue eyes and a nicer accent. I have made a promise to myself to keep my clothes on in ... read more

4.18.08 Update since back in London… Dartmoor was incredible. Got back into London, and enjoying it better this time. A tale from the hostel...(rated R) First night back at the hostel a pretty young lady stepped in the room while I was about to go down and make dinner. We got to chatting and decided to go get some dinner at a Greek restaurant just down the street, it was raining. She’s Canadian and lives and works in Wales and was down in London to go on a cooking network TV show. We had a bottle or so of wine, and back at the room, things looked to get interesting when suddenly our other roommate returned - a young Scotsman named James, an actor with a lot of creative spark, pride and something indescribably unsettled in ... read more

Well, Saturday 1st of December, Carl and I headed out to Luton airport for our flight into Dublin. The plan was two days in Dublin, where Mayim would meet us, then join our Paddywagon tour group on the Monday (3rd Dec). Carl and I were slightly hungover, as is our usual way, and extremely thirsty!!! We managed to get up, head off to the airport via way of the tube, while waiting for our train to the airport we had the best water of our entire lives, and he would definitely agree. We nearly cried when it was gone. So our train ride was non-eventful, except for the naming of Carl's suitcase - given mine was called Connor, we needed a name for Connor's newfound friend. I cannot for the life of me think what we ... read more

Well it’s been a while since we gave an update and we’ve been and seen so much so I’ll break it down into a few parts which you can peruse at your leisure (or delete!!). In December we finished our jobs on Murrin Murrin and headed off on a long awaited trip back to Ireland starting with a wee pre-Christmas trip to NZ to see the family and have a makeshift Reid Christmas. Six weeks away in total. NZ (‘Home’) was great as usual with maximum time being spent with the two little nephews - Owen and Louie. The next generation of Reid’s is in full flow at the moment with Fei and Waz due in April, Glen and Tans due in June and Sonny and Nigel due in September. It’s shaping up for a great ... read more

I've put up pictures on my picture site. I've set up folders for them, so peek through the folders to the left. dropshots.com/imaginarygill Go look! PS... the site went funny on me and scooted everything to the left. So, some of my captions or the pictures might be missing letters because I ws blind typing. There's also a caption of a scenery pic saying "Cows!"... that's not supposed to be there lol But the site won't let me edit it right now, so it's going to have to stay that way for now.... read more

I've just arrived in Cork about an hour ago... a day sooner than I planned. Let's start with Dublin first. After I arrived to the city center, I found an internet and baggage storage place. From there, I met up with a girl from California and wandered around for a while, took pictures, and had to chicken curry before I hopped on a train to Tralee. The train to Tralee stopped early and we all had to hop on busses (provided for us) the rest of the way... something about a strike. At Tralee, I shared a room with 3 Irish guys, 1 Swedish girl, and a Scotish guy... there were 2 others but we didn't talk. There was another person in the hostel that I found out lives in Bothel. Saturday morning, I caught a ... read more

Today was amazing, to say the least. We left for Connemara this morning. It was the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen. Again, if you are on the west coast of Ireland, take a trip through Connemara. We went through the peaklands of the area, right through the mountains. It was so green and the tops of the mountains were covered with thick mist. The river valleys we drove through seemed endless and to be honest, I didn't want them to end. The most exciting part of the day was seeing Kylemore Abbey come into view. I had looked at pictures of this place for years and it was a complete surprise when we came across it. It was even more gorgeous than the pictures, as is everything in this country. It had hit me, ... read more

What an enjoyable weekend. I planned on getting some homework done (but isn't that always the case?), but it was such a beautiful day who could stay in doing homework? Anna and I went the dock behind the apartment to watch the day go by. We took some books out with us and relaxed by the water for a few hours, reading, talking and daydreaming. Later that afternoon, I went over to Erin's apartment to watch the big Galway vs. Clare hurling match. Ten minutes into the game we were screaming at the television, cheering for Galway. They lost, unfortunately, but it was the first hurling game I had ever watched. Surprising how quickly we got sucked into the madness of that sport! Afterwards Lauren came down with her violin and played some tunes for us. ... read more
