Sunday 17 June, 2012 Santorini, Greek Islands Up on deck early today… I didn’t want to waste any part of this day... it is a dream come true. When I trained as a travel consultant (a lifetime ago) and laid eyes on my first picture of its blue domes, white-washed houses and clear sky that went forever, I knew I would one day visit Santorini. I was very fortunate to have the same couple join me at my breakfast table that joined me yesterday. They invited me to spend the day with them. Perfect, I thought. I really would prefer to share this experience, and these were like-minded people looking forward to Santorini just as much as I. So we boarded the tender with much excitement. Again, today was very hot, so ... read more

Everything I have ever heard about Santorini was great, so I don't know why I was so surprised by it's incredible beauty. I guess describing it to someone who has never seen it is like describing the Grand Canyon: it's just too big for words but I'll try my best. We tendered into a remote dock on the south end of the island early this morning. And I guess I can sum up the Santorini philosophy by telling you that the first place we went was a winery. Imagine doing wine tasting at 9am in the morning! It turns out that 70% of the island is covered in vineyards and they only export 40% of the wine produced there. So apparently wine is an appropriate drink for anyone at any time here. And of course it ... read more

Well, once again Iv neglected this blog for afew weeks with the combination of being tired/busy and no decent wifi signal, but here in Santorini they believe in good wifi. So in the past few weeks, instead of giving full descriptions Im just going to list the cool things we've done and if you have any specific things you want to know just ask rather than making me sit here for 3 hours typing them all out in one go on here. Taxi racing in Istanbul, then 3 hours in a streetside bar watching some locals dance and try to impress us, then having 3 kebabs before we went back to the ship (Turkish kebabs are AWESOME) Going to the Lido beaches in Venice at 1.30am for several hours, having a drink/singsong, paddling (the sea was ... read more

Good morning from Santorini It's another perfect morning here on the Greek island but unfortunately we are heading back to the UK today flying out at midday so our time here has come to an end. We then only have 1 more full day before flying back to Oz so our trip has nearly come to an end and it has been absolutely fantastic. We have spent the last 3 days in Santorini with our wonderful friends Katherine and Bryan and have had a ball even though we have eaten our fair share of Greek salad with feta cheese and tzatziki!! So back to the UK by 3.30pm staying at the Crown Plaza in St James, just around the corner from Lizzies place! Then we have an early morning start for our whirlwind day trip to ... read more

Yassou! Or G'day in Oz, we are now enjoying the liveliest of weather and locations on Paradise Island called Santorini, it is absolutely stunning. We arrive in the early hours of Saturday morning after a 3 hour plane trip to Athens leaving Heathrow at 10pm and landing in Athens their time at 4am! Then a short 30 minute flight to Santorini, unfortunately it was still dark coming into land so we couldn't see the true beauty of the place. We were picked up by our host of the villa we are renting and woke Katherine and Bryan up. The villa was superb, authentic white stone cave with a balcony overlooking the ocean. We had a very relaxed 1st day exploring the island in our rental car, then a beautiful dinner in the local traverna eating some ... read more

GREEK ISLANDS Our whirlwind Greek Island tour continued today with a visit to Crete followed by one of the iconic Greek islands – Santorini Crete had a good business/retail centre and we weren’t on an organised excursion so we had plenty of time to have a look around. There were lots of character buildings and a couple of nice squares where you could sit and watch the world go by. It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours without being sensational. SANTORINI From there we sailed to Santorini one of the most famous of the Greek islands and one we were really looking forward to visiting. There are two ways of getting off the ship, sometimes it docks at port and others where the harbour is too shallow we take tender boats. Small ... read more

Leaving the campsite (7/9/11) Motorcycles don't hold much stuff... or at least they shouldn't. However, ours had become a rather unhappy exception to that rule. In fact, so much so that when we pulled up to say goodbye to the campsite owner I nearly toppled over sideways. Catching the hem of my boot on the footpeg didn't help. Note to selves: must reduce the luggage! First stop - a lesser known Italian Lake (7/9/11 - 9/9/11) Having survived our somewhat unwieldy ride over the Simplon pass we finally arrived at our first stop by one of the lesser known, but surely the most beautiful of the Italian lakes. We set up camp, and the trip had officially begun. In the morning we went through the luggage to see what we could get rid of. What ... read more

We arrived in Santorini and immediately fell in love with it. The bleach white buildings with the sky blue domes are something that I thought only existed in postcards, and not something that I would ever see. We landed at the airport and upon arrival, realised that our transfer bus was not there and didn’t look like it was coming. Luckily, there was a man named Alex who knew about this and he took us and some other tourists in place of the transfer. €20 and half an hour later, we arrived at our hotel in Perissa Beach, on the south side of Santorini. Perissa is famous for its black beach which is unlike anything you have ever seen. We settled in to our hotel which was a vast improvement from Crete. Although all that was ... read more

Up we got this am bright and early to wander round Crete in the am. We had been told not to expect too much and not much is what we saw! The day didn’t help as it was grey and once again very windy but Crete was not the most amazing place we’ve been to! At all!! Old and a bit scungy! But El did go to the Fish Doctor and had lil fish eat her dead skin! It was awesome to watch and felt really weird apparentl¬y! I couldn’t do it cos I am way way too ticklish! So we hung out in Cretet for an hour or so, saw about all there was to see and headed back to the boat. Another amazing lunch as always on board, some sitting in the crazy wind, ... read more

Santorini continued… On Tuesday we drove down to Kamari beach which had amazing blue water. We decided to rent chairs and an umbrella for the day for a more comfortable beach experience. It was nice and we spent the day swimming, reading and relaxing. After we were done at the beach we stopped at a winery (one of many on Santorini) called Santo Winery. They have an amazing view of the caldera and so we (mostly me) sampled the wine and ate some cheese and “crackers” aka stale bread to cleanse the palate. We bought some wine and then headed back to our resort pool and relaxed for awhile, enjoying our beautiful views and decided to stay in Akrotiri for the night, so we headed back to Aeoles for a fabulous dinner (I had another amazing ... read more
