We arrived in Berlin at around 9:30 on Thursday and had to catch a few more trains in order to get to our station. Luckily we looked across the platform and saw our hotel straight across the road. So with that we headed to the hotel and checked in. We settled into our room which was pretty good before heading back towards the train station for dinner. We finished our dinner by about 11:30 and headed back to the hotel for bed. We were so thankful that the beds were as comfy as they were as we really needed a good nights sleep The next day we woke up and had some breakfast before heading out on the train to see the museum sector. Since we slept in pretty late, we didn’t get into the centre ... read more

We arrived in Vienna train station at 4:45 on Saturday afternoon and found our way just up the road to the hostel administration. We got our room keys and checked in and made our way to the building where we were actually staying, just one street away. We went to the supermarket to buy some groceries as we had a kitchen for the first time in ages. I tried to make Carbonara sauce but screwed up the sauce pretty badly which ended up as some sort of glue. Luckily we had bought a bottle of red sauce in case. We finished dinner, cleaned up and headed to bed as we were pretty tired from the once again, exhaustingly long travel day! Sunday morning, we woke up and did Skype with my family for an hour and ... read more

We got to Zurich at just after 7 and got some food before trying to find our hotel. We tried to get a cab, but when we explained the hotel to the driver, he told us that it was in the old town and no cabs could go in there. So in the light rain, we walked and followed the phone GPS directions towards our hotel. We eventually got there and were really grateful to get out of the rain. We checked in and stayed in a room called Saga, named after the band. We then settled in and headed for bed shortly after. Tuesday arrived and we got up early in order to get cracking on the first day of Zurich! We got ready and walked down the street and found a little café for ... read more

We arrived in Bucharest in Romania as part of our stopover on Thursday and then jumped on another plane to Paris. We arrived and immediately noticed that it was a lot colder than the first time that we visited Paris. We caught the metro that we were now quite familiar with all the way from the airport all the way to a small town called Torcy. The beauty of Torcy is there isn’t really much tourist stuff there so it was cheap. But it is only 3 stations from the Disneyland station. There was also a supermarket, a Laundromat and a whole street of restaurants. What more could you want! We made our way to our hotel and checked in. We also asked if our train passes had arrived as I had organised for them to ... read more

We arrived in Istanbul at about 1:30 and headed to our hotel. Unfortunately I got the directions wrong so we just caught a cab which wasn’t too expensive. We arrived at our hotel and got checked in and Dad got a separate room because he didn’t want to make us sick. I think this man should win father of the year award! We wandered around the streets of Istanbul for a few hours and got some Maccas for lunch before heading back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We then went out to a restaurant Dad had seen earlier that day and it was a bloody good pick. The food was good and so was the service. We then went back to the hotel and Sarah and I booked the final leg of our ... read more

Çanakkale We arrived at Istanbul Airport at around midday and made our way through maze of shops until we found the stall that provided bus trips to Çanakkale. We paid around €20 each for tickets and caught the next bus at 2:30 to our destination. The trip was pretty long and far from enjoyable but when we arrived at nearly 8:30 that night, we were just relieved to be off the bus. We got our bags and headed into the town square and found our hotel very easily. We checked in and were immediately upgraded to the brand new hotel around the corner. This was great as we had a pretty shitty day and this was making it much better. We went to our new hotel and got settled before heading down the road for dinner ... read more

We arrived at the port in Piraeus and joined the line in order to board our boat. The line was going pretty quickly but was still pretty big due to the fact that most people had decided (like us) to get there early. Once we got through customs, we headed onto a bus which took us to our boat. It was pretty big but not as big as the P&O ones. We got to our room on Deck 3 and then headed out to explore the boat. We got our unlimited drinking passes which all good Australians should have from a guy called Darrick. We then reserved our table at the restaurant which was free which was in turn extremely excellent! After sorting everything out like that, we decided to put the cards to use and ... read more

After a few hours in business class on our ferry from Naxos, we arrived at the port of Piraeus, the central harbour of Athens! We got off the ferry and found out way to the taxi rank to get to our hotel. After explaining where we wanted to go and having several drivers simply walk away, we had a man tell us we could walk there in 5 minutes. I think they must have walked off because they didn't want the crappy fare but no need to be rude about it! So with that we grabbed our bags and kicked my phones GPS into gear and set off up the street. About 25 minutes and 10 streets later we arrived at our hotel, Faros II. This hotel was great, and the staff were really friendly. We ... read more

August 25th 2011

After our ferry ride, we found a cab that took us straight to our hotel for a really cheap €8. When we arrived at our hotel, we were blown away. It was a 4 star hotel in the outskirts of the city of Naxos, but was still close enough to walk to the centre in 10 minutes. Because it was our anniversary week, we decided to spend a little more on the hotel than we normally would and it certainly was worth it. The Porto Naxos hotel had a sauna, gym, tennis court, massive swimming pool and a separate kiddie pool as well as one of my favourite things in the world. A pool bar!!! So we settled in to our room which was amazing. Big bed and a bath and TV which were things we ... read more

We arrived in Santorini and immediately fell in love with it. The bleach white buildings with the sky blue domes are something that I thought only existed in postcards, and not something that I would ever see. We landed at the airport and upon arrival, realised that our transfer bus was not there and didn’t look like it was coming. Luckily, there was a man named Alex who knew about this and he took us and some other tourists in place of the transfer. €20 and half an hour later, we arrived at our hotel in Perissa Beach, on the south side of Santorini. Perissa is famous for its black beach which is unlike anything you have ever seen. We settled in to our hotel which was a vast improvement from Crete. Although all that was ... read more
