We arrived in Vienna train station at 4:45 on Saturday afternoon and found our way just up the road to the hostel administration. We got our room keys and checked in and made our way to the building where we were actually staying, just one street away. We went to the supermarket to buy some groceries as we had a kitchen for the first time in ages. I tried to make Carbonara sauce but screwed up the sauce pretty badly which ended up as some sort of glue. Luckily we had bought a bottle of red sauce in case. We finished dinner, cleaned up and headed to bed as we were pretty tired from the once again, exhaustingly long travel day!
Sunday morning, we woke up and did Skype with my family for an hour and it was great to see them all. We went and had breakfast and because we had a kitchen, I took full advantage and made boiled eggs while Sarah had cornflakes. Woooo hooooo! Go all out Sarah! After breakfast, it was time for the Wadley’s to do Skype with us. Afterwards, we went to find an ATM and paid the hostel for our stay. We
had some lunch from KFC/leftovers from last night. I think you all know who had what! We then watched the new Dexter and some more TV before having a nap. At around 6, we went out to a local Chinese restaurant and had some dinner before coming back to the hostel for a good nights sleep.
The next morning, we got up early and had breakfast, before making our way to the Laundromat a few blocks away. We did some washing and went to the supermarket to stock up on groceries as tonight’s dinner was Mum’s excellent chicken curry. We got back to the hostel and did Skype with Tonez which was great as we hadn’t seen him in ages! Afterwards, we decided to make dinner early to avoid the hoards of people in the kitchen and ended up eating at around 5pm. We went on the internet for a few hours before heading to bed.
Tuesday came and Sarah for the 3rd day in a row had corn flakes for breakfast. We decided that we actually need to do SOMETHING that day, so we walked down the main shopping street in Vienna and had a look through
a lot of the stores. We stopped off for a few slices of pizza and continued down until we got to the Museum section. Of course the museum was closed but we were all good because there were heaps of old style building around, so we spent a few hours taking photos. We then wandered through a really pretty garden that was just massive before heading back up the shopping street, as I had some pretty intense sinus going on. I had a nap before waking up and making some incredible meatballs with cheese filling and a red sauce with pasta. I made a little too much though, and we ended up wasting a fair bit. We then watched a little bit of TV and headed for bed shortly after.
Our last full day in Vienna came and we decided once again, to make a full day of it. We woke up and made some breakfast before heading back down the shopping street to see the other side of the street that we missed the day before. We saw all that and decided that we would skip the museum and spend the money on the one in Berlin that
would be much more exciting. So we headed back up the street and had some lunch before making our way back to the hostel. We then planned to go out and see the massive Palace with an equally massive name that I can’t remember, nor could I spell it if I did. I got us lost, so we didn’t end up seeing that, but we did find a SPAR, a butcher and a supermarket. Sarah was pretty disappointed but it gives us an excuse to come back now I suppose. We went back to the hostel and made some Carbonara for dinner, this time with a jar as to avoid the glue problem again! After dinner, we packed our things and got ready to make another train journey the next day, this time to Berlin!
We woke the next morning and had brekky before, heading out to the train station and catching our train to a place called Nuernberg in Germany. This would be our stopover of sorts and shortly after we arrived and had lunch, we were on a train destined for Berlin.
