Ferry Ride
Ferry Ride
Sexy wind-blown look
Arrived last night in Santorini after taking the milk-run ferry that stopped at almost all of the islands between Tinos and Santorini (even the ones with tiny ports... I've seen more boats in a kid's bathtub than in some of those places) it was great weather though and we saw the sunset from the water. Today we're going to check out some of the villages and try to get to Ancient Thira, there are some ancient Egyptian things there I would love to see. The view from our hotel is magical, bright blue waters and white houses, little lounge chairs and [View Full Entry]

Santorini

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini
Flight from Athens to Santorini today, and after our transfer left my suitcase at another hotel (I think that bag is cursed), we arrived at our hotel overlooking the caldera (the volcano that exploded and filled up with ocean). I have to say that all of the pictures of Santorini cannot possibly do justice to the breathtaking views of this island. Tiny white and blue houses built on the cliffs surrounding the caldera, with a sheer drop into the Aegean. Santorini is by far the most beautiful island I've ever been on. As an additional plus, since we arrived after the [View Full Entry]

Perissa

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini
Didn't have a brilliant night's sleep, so we were both pretty tired this morning. We weren't 100% certain what we were going to do today, particularly when we walked into town and it was sooooo windy. I was constantly getting grit and dust in my eyes, so it was hell for Beck with her contacts in. Over another gyros we decided to stick to our original plan and head to Perissa. We had to wait a little while for the bus to Perissa, but it must be said that the buses in Greece are very reliable and comfortable. Each bus has [View Full Entry]

I woke up and it was still dark. Checking my phone for the time it said 05.15, so I grabbed the camera and headed for the rooftop of the building to see if the moon was still out. It was a pretty impressive sight seeing the moon go down in the exact same fashion as the sun had only a few hours earlier. Hopefully the photos turn out ok. I headed back to bed for some more sleep before the alarm went off for breakfast. We took our breakfast on to the roof and admired the view once more before going [View Full Entry]

The car had to be back by ten, but we didn't get up in time to do anything much with it. We were satisfied we had seen everything we had too anyway. The family who runs Hotel Grotto is so nice, and even though we have only stayed one night we are so impressed by how friendly they are. Part of our stay was a complimentary breakfast, and wait for it - they had cereal. It was by far the best breakfast we had had in Greece, and my muesli fix was just what the doctor ordered. There was also natural [View Full Entry]

Off Season in Paradise

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini
We should've mentioned earlier that Greece was -along with Australia- a focal point of planning our worldwide jaunt. From the beginning, we both longed to visit Greece, for both the history and the scenery. This is where the island of Santorini comes in. Many people have spoken well of the Greek Isles, and there was never any doubt that we would end up on one of them. Couldn't have picked a better one than Santorini. Along these lines, it is time to give credit to Mau and Meris for their decision to join us in Greece for the holidays. Their generosity [View Full Entry]

Santorini

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini
Hello, made it to Santorini and it is really beautiful here, the beaches have black sand and the sea is dark blue. We found someone at the port that had a room in Perissa (where the beaches are) and it was huge it could of fit 4 people and I had a double bed for only 25 euros a night for two people. The owners were also really nice and helpful. Tried a dish which in English is called small fish I thought it just meant a small piece of fish, he even showed me what they looked like from a [View Full Entry]

what can i say...
well, what can i say. i wasn't a huge fan of mykonos but that's not everyone's view. i still had an aweome time there and i'm glad i went, but it's not the best of the 5 islands i've been to. we had 2 massive nights of the 4 we were there. they were both at the same place, at our camping ground beach bar. the first night, wednesday, was so much fun. there were 9 of us together, all female, 22 years old from melbourne. so bizarre. our night didn't start til about 1am and finished at 4.30 with lots [View Full Entry]

Santorini!

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini
On the 16th we (Rachael, Jessica, and I) hung out at the pool all day and caught the 6:30pm ferry to Santorini. By 6:30pm I really mean 8pm because the ferries are ALWAYS late. Never fails. Anyway got into Santorini around 10pm, nice to have a shorter ferry ride! We were so hungry when we got in that we just walked into the first restaurant we saw-bad idea! Had a pretty horrible Italian meal, which is odd b/c you think they'd have good Italian food considering all the Italians vacationing here. Oh well. Santorini is a much bigger Island than Ios, [View Full Entry]

I arrived in Santorini a few days ago after a long, but relaxing boat trip from Pireaus, Athens. The reason it had been so relaxing was the fact that I had to buy a business class ticket of 52euro, since everything else was sold out. The first time I follow an advise in the Lonely Planet Guide and it screws up. I literally hate those guide books by now. I have found countless mistakes in all the once I've used. Mostly I double check, but this time I followed the advise of not buying my boat-ticket before it was sure to [View Full Entry]
