Ios Friday 10th - Saturday 18th August Ios is a party island so armed with out Santorini Tans we hit the beach and the clubs for some fun. We spent the first 5 nights at some accommodation near the Port, then 2 nights at Far Out Village which is the main beach followed by 2 nights at Francesco´s in the village where the bars & clubs are. It took us a while to get used to Ios time as you don´t have dinner until 11pm-1am, you don´t hit the bars until 1am-2am, everything gets going at about 3am-4am and you party till dawn. We all became experts at sleeping twice a day. ... read more

Prior to my arrival I heard that the Ios is the party island of Greece. I was looking forward to some dancing and crazy nights. Upon my arrival, I went to Far away Camping site and asked for accommodation. They were fully booked. However, when they asked me where I am from I replied Canada, and added Serbia. Immediately the guy behind the counter replied, why don't you speak Serbian so that the whole world can understand you. AND...the place was found for me. I was placed in a tent bungalow that looks like a dog house. It has a door that locks and 2 beds. It has nothing else and it is as small as the beds. The price for this bungalow is usually 10 euros a night for each bed. I was paired ... read more

I'm literally on the edge of death. Ios has sucked the life out of me. A week in Ios is hard to handle. This is our daily schedule. Start drinking at 10 pm, go out to the bars at midnight, clubs start around 2 am, get home around 5 am and wake up at 2 pm then go to beach to laze about. Repeat. and Repeat. This place makes Corfu look like child's play. I've had a blast here but after 4 nights I'm beginning to grow a bit tired of the crazy life. There is just a maze of bars and clubs that you can weave in and out of and you can dance till morning light if you like. Nothing opens here until 7 pm. There is this one club called Flames where the ... read more

The Greek Islands have been awesome. We arrived at Samos (Greece) from Turkey on the 26th via a ferry from Kusadasi. We spent the day relaxing in Samos while we waited for our afternoon ferry to Mykonos, which was the first of the Islands we stayed at. The ferry took about 7hrs and we finally got in about midnight. Mykonos was a great change from Turkey, maybe we were sick of people trying to sell us carpets? Anyway with our first day on Mykonos we explored the blinding white maze of streets around the main town. The little white houses with blue doors and colourful flowers were so pretty and made for some lovely strolls. We saw the row of old windmills on a hill on the edge of town and a row of restaurants on ... read more

Ios is known as the party island of Greece and so far we’ve mostly seen the town at night, but today we planned to explore the town during the daylight. Chora, Ios’s main town is a typical of the Cyclades with whitewashed buildings and is full of steps and small alleys, curtained doorways and small courtyards. On the main thoroughfares there are the jewelers, souvenir shops and, of course, the clubs. Ios has lots of churches; as a matter of fact it claims to have 365 churches, one for each day of the year. In Chora in a plateia just off the main road is the modern Orthodox Cathedral of Ios named Evangelismos (Annunciation). It’s an large whitewashed building with the traditional blue domes, very beautiful. Nearby is the church of Agia Ekaterini. First we picked ... read more

We decided to drive out to what is allegedly Homer’s Tomb in Plakotos in the Northern part of the island today. The road was partly paved (oil and gravel) and part dirt; weird. Homer’s Tomb is on a point of land surrounded by hundreds, maybe even thousands of bee hives. When we got out of the car the buzzing was really loud. You walk out a long trail from the parking area to Homer’s Tomb. There’s an ancient stone engraved with writing, but really no other information there, basically just a stone tomb overlooking the sea. We probably only stayed about 30 minutes or so, the view was spectacular but there really wasn’t much else there. Steve built a little stone structure because he wanted to and I got a picture of it. We headed back ... read more

We decided to rent a Suzuki Jimmy which is like an open jeep with a soft top. The rental agency picked us up at the hotel and took us down to the port to sign the papers and pick up the car. The receptionist at the hotel told us that the best beach on the island is Manganari Beach . On the map, it looked like it wasn’t too far, about half the island away lengthwise. However, because of the mountains and the way the roads went, we had to drive way up to the top of the island and then all the way back down the other side to get there. The road was tortuous and it took forever, I had to kind of take it easy as Steve felt hung-over and car sick. It ... read more
