It's snowing in Ios
Well almost - Moving up a gear at Rehab The Greek Islands have been awesome. We arrived at Samos (Greece) from Turkey on the 26th via a ferry from Kusadasi. We spent the day relaxing in Samos while we waited for our afternoon ferry to Mykonos, which was the first of the Islands we stayed at. The ferry took about 7hrs and we finally got in about midnight.
Mykonos was a great change from Turkey, maybe we were sick of people trying to sell us carpets? Anyway with our first day on Mykonos we explored the blinding white maze of streets around the main town. The little white houses with blue doors and colourful flowers were so pretty and made for some lovely strolls. We saw the row of old windmills on a hill on the edge of town and a row of restaurants on the waters edge known as 'little Venice'. The town has a great Mediterranean feel about it. We ate Gyros for lunch which was SOOO good. We had been disappointed with the Kebabs in Turkey but the Greek Gyros was better than we had even expected. The Greek food actually has been really good but I have a bad feeling that weight we lost in
Pretty VW - Samos
It looked like it was pretty cosy Asia will be quickly put back on again.
In the afternoon we checked out Paraga beach that is right next to where we are staying (Mykonos Camping). From our place you can see the whole beach and it had a trendy bar with a pool, also overlooking the beach. We are also staying in dorm rooms now to try and save some $$$.
Anyway when we got to the beach we got a bit of a shock as there were so many topless women everywhere you looked and bunch of nudists. We had read that Paradise beach (the next beach along) was a nudist beach but not Paraga beach. Anyway after soaking up the sun at Paraga beach and at our pool we decided it was time to do as the locals do and get nakie at Paradise beach. We needed a bit of Dutch courage before hand but we eventually set off for Paradise beach. It was about a 10 min walk to get there and once again we were a little shocked. There were no nudists and not really any topless women either (poor Lew), just a row of beach clubs. We decided to push ahead
Mykonos Windmills
They looked cute sitting up on the Hill overlooking 'Little' Venice in Mykonos town to Super Paradise beach which we thought might be the nakie beach now, but couldn't find the road to get there. Anyway we bounced between our place and paradise beach all night, drinking and socialising which our new dorm mates.
Anyway the next day was spent recovering and getting ourselves to the next island on our list - Ios. We got into Ios about 10pm that night. We had already heard about a place to stay called 'Far out beach resort' so we pushed through the mass of hotel touts and hopped on their shuttle bus. It was good advice and ended up being a great place to stay.
Our first day on Ios was spent similar to Mykonos, we checked out the main town (bought our ferry tickets) then headed straight for the beach which is literally across the road from our resort. We hired beach chairs and just lazed the afternoon away, drinking and watching the sun set. After dinner in the resort we thought it was time to check out the Ios nightlife which is supposed to be one of the best in the Greek islands. We started with a few quite drinks in a
Little Venice - Mykonos
Just a little teaser until we get to the real venice... bar in the main square, just people watching. Once it hit 12 we started the bar / club crawl. This took us to Satisfaction, Red Bull, Flames, Slammer and then finally Rehab. Rehab was the best so we kicked on there until about 3am where we stopped for a life-saving early morning Gyros before heading straight back to Rehab. We boogied until about 5am when we figured we better head home and start the 30min walk down to our place on the beach. Rehab was pretty crazy, sometime during the night someone flicked the foam switch and things went up a gear.
All in all Ios has a much more authentic and friendly nightlife and is not as pretentious as Mykonos. The prime example would be in Mykonos they pay girls to dance on the tables to draw in the crowds and keep things moving, in Ios they are repeatedly pulling girls down off the tables who are trying to dance up there.
Today we just spent most of the day recovering from our night out and so are just chilling by the pool. We head to Santorini tonight and should arrive about 12:30am. We have not booked
