Holy crap we slept in until 2:30pm! After we finally dragged ourselves up, we went to the upper pool and talked to a couple from Melbourne who was on a five week holiday – I’m jealous again! After a bit we went down to the beach and bought two floats to use in the ocean. We sat on the end of the beach right near the hotel, the water was calm and the water’s edge was nice and sandy as far out as you could walk. Steve and I took a walk all the way down the street to the Far Out Club and on the way saw a really cool restaurant covered with camouflage netting. It had hammocks and couches to sit on and raised platform tents. We decided we should go back there for ... read more

We were up at 4:45am to get our transfer at 5:30am to the ferry at Piraeus port. Our ferry was Highspeed 6 and was at 7am. It’s always a huge pain in the ass to get on the ferry with a bunch of luggage, but we had no other choice but to bring it all with us to the islands. I think if I did it again I would pack much, much less stuff. We left our large bags down in the auto garage luggage storage area and headed up to our assigned seats. Poor Rachael got stuck next to an annoying guy who hogged more than his share of space. The ferry took about three and a half hours to get to Ios arriving about 10:30ish. Our transfer/agent was waiting for us when we arrived. ... read more

I have never been to such a superficial place as Ios in my travels. Some places you go yeah fair enough but this is like if you are a solo traveller no one really wants you to tag along. When I first started talking to people they’d ask “Are you on your own? Shit good luck! You really need to be part of a group to enjoy this place.” At this point I didn’t say I had just turned 30, 5 days earlier. I have mentioned on the first blog entry for JP 5 that I am actually 24. This is based on my theory that you are only as old as how many birthdays you’ve had in your native country. But since I am half Greek a birthday in Athens should see me gain a ... read more

I arrived in Greece on Saturday the 11th via a flight from Madrid to Athens. I parted ways with my friends Marc, CB, Jordan, and Jeff after traveling with them for over 3 weeks, but I met up with another friend from U of M who I'll be traveling with until I leave Croatia. We arrived to our hostel in the evening, so we didn't have a whole lot of time to do site seeing around the city. We just walked to the Acropolis and had dinner. They light the Acropolis up at night, and it was really pretty. I had swordfish for dinner, and it was great. The next day we headed to the Acropolis again to really get a better look at it. We hiked up to the Parthenon and had a great view ... read more

Yasu! From alicja Last night we spent on the beach (again)! Straight after breakfast we went swimming and Patrick and Dad went spearfishing. They came back with a surpise - they had caught a crayfish!!! We have to give all of the credit to Patrick who spotted it hiding under some rocks- pretty impressive! Despite some of our (mine and tosia's!) early fears of it biting us, once it was cooked it didn't really pose any potential threat. :P We returned to the place we are staying in and after lunch went for a swim in the afternoon at Valmas beach. While having fun splashing about, mum went for a frappe and then gave in to the water. Later in the day we went for a lovely dinner with some friends: Dimitri, Katie, Elena and Stelios. ... read more

Hey everybody! I thought I should start by saying that yesterday after a full day of swimming we experienced an amazing lunar eclipse. Depending on where you guys were at the time, you may or may not have seen it, but for those who didn't it was super cool and the moon turned red! :D So today, we had a full morning of windsurfing and water rides. After a delicious lunc we went to kabaki and we are sleeping here tonight. We swam andndad caught some amazing fish which we had. For dinner with goat. Then we looked at the stars which are very clear tonight -The Lost Tribe... read more

Hi guys, Alicja here! We haven’t written in the blog for days, partly because we have been so busy, and partly because until now our search for an internet connection has been unsuccessful. We are currently in Greece. We arrived on Friday, after 2 days of travelling. On Friday we were too tired to go for a swim far from the hotel. However on Saturday it was dad’s birthday (happy birthday!!!!!!!!) so he chose, typically, to sleep in Kabaki, the beach where we own land (which, if I may say, is pretty nice!). So we spent the night in the ‘house’ we have devised, a.k.a a military tent. But I’m not saying it wasn’t fun- we made dinner on the fire, ate birthday cake and fish that dad caught, had late swims, looked at the stars ... read more

So I just concluded a 17 hour ferry ride from Patras to Bari and am just waiting for my 9 hour ferry from Bari to Dubrovnik which departs this evening at 10pm. Since there is absolutely nothing to do in Bari, I thought that this would be the perfect time to update the ol' blogsky, as I have been neglecting it since we left Naples. Our first stop was in Corfu, and I was told by everyone who has been there lately to go to the Pink Palace. Full of debauchery and young travellers, we were guaranteed a good time. Apparently, however, this has been the quietest summer in years and so the bar and hostel in general was at about 25 percent capacity. Nonetheless, it was nice to relax, drink cheap booze and meet people ... read more

We woke up Monday morning psyched and ready to head to Ios—our little Greek paradise! After a 4 hour ferry ride, we arrived in Ios a little before noon. A man who looked about 35-40 wearing a Brazil jacket met us as we came got off the ferry, holding a sign for “Far Out” the name of our resort. We found out about this resort because last year’s BEF group had come here and had told us that it fabulous and cheap. So, without really researching other places, we booked it. The five of us piled into Brazil man’s van (his jacket had given him this name for the duration of our trip) and drove through the island’s largest town (which was tiny) on the way to Far Out. It was beautiful—right on the beach, a ... read more
