I hope that this entry finds all of you very well wherever you may be. I know that all of you have been waiting with baited breath for another travelblog update. Some of you have even called me and asked, "Hey, I am busy raising twins and a toddler, but in my one single free-minute of each day I check your blog hoping to see some sign of life. What gives!?" For those of you who do that (which there are none, let's be honest --- the stat-tracker on this thing says so), I thank you. For those of you who don't check this Web site reguarly, I applaude you. You have a life. So, consider this

(Watch us exit a sea cave on a kayak and explore a remote island inlet ) I was able to take Friday off to travel, so we hopped an hour flight from Bangkok down to the island of Phuket, the largest in Thailand. After landing we were ushered to the JW Marriott Phuket Beach Resort and given a lime-flavored beverage upon arrival that was dubbed, “welcome dink” Everything about the resort was fantastic; Hands down the best accommodations that I have ever stayed in. From an enormous main pool, to swim up bars and elephants being paraded around to endless buffets in the morning it was quite the

So read on and find out how I got there. I had just one day in Hanoi. I started Saturday with a walking tour of the city’s Old Quarter. Hanoi is amazing and probably the best city that I have visited on this trip. Yes, even over Paris, London and Bangkok. The fusion of Vietnamese and French culture is the most interesting part. My first stop was at a nearby French pastry shop, where I ordered some croissants for 25 cents a piece. If I was to walk the entire day, I would need water. They didn’t have any. The Vietnam Dong

This past weekend I went to Koh Samet with my friend Martin, who works for Reuters. The island is great because it is off the tourism map and is frequented by local Thais. Meaning it costs less and there are less people there. Two definite pluses. Below are some video links from some of the things that happened on the beach Saturday night. Hence, the Ring of Fire title to this entry. Playing with fire All around, the island was absolutely fantastic. The beaches were clean and the water was just the right temperature. It was hot but with a great breeze that made it possible to lie in the sun all day

I left the “comfort” on Cambodia about a week ago as I was called back by the Bangkok bureau to cover an event that they couldn’t get to. Cambodia -- after my initial enjoyment of the country - turned south in a hurry. The novelty of living in the third-world quickly becomes a reality. Walking to work and experiencing desperate poverty is not something that starts anyone’s day off right. And the country’s mores became very annoying. I would be sent out on a story and not be able to find the address because in Phnom Penh they don’t have any sort of uniform address arrangement. It seems that you basically just pick your number. I would try to call government officials
