Simply stated, Munich has been awesome. Quite easily the best city that we have visited thus far! We arrived two days ago with Lionel Ritchie's "all night long" playing on my i-pod...looking back, I cannot help but laugh at the symobolism as this was about how long we stayed at the haufbrauhaus our first night!! (sadly, it closed at midnight). Anyway, after our arrival at the main station we headed out on the number 17 tram in order to find our lodging: "The Tent". Although EJ thought that we were going to sleep in the dirt, we were surprised to find that the circus tent that we would be sharing with 200 other people did in fact have wooden floors! Here we were given five blankets each to protect us from the pouring rain that pounded ... read more

I checked out of my high-rise hostel in downtown Copenhagen (Friday 11th July), and took a five hour train ride to Hamburg - which included a ferry crossing from Rodbyhavn in Denmark to Puttgarden in Germany; though unfortunately my credit card was not accepted at the on-board duty-free store! :-( Having arrived in Hamburg I then had to find my way to the hostel - which even with the directions I had been sent by the hostel was neither a straightforward nor an enjoyable trek. After lying around for a couple of hours recovering from my ordeal, I decided it was time to head out and explore the city. Starting in the centre of town between the majestic Rathaus (town hall) and Cathedral, I first headed past the St.Michaeliskirche and St.Nikolaiskirche - of which only the ... read more

Ich bin ein Berliner... Kennedy's famous words as he spoke out about the fall of the Berlin wall... oh dear. Welcome though ladies... Gentlemen to the city of Berlin capital of Germany. But first i must tell you of this morning, with our hostel we got free breakfast. Most of the things laid out where for sandwidges so we made our lunch and smuggled it out as it was "forbidden" to take food from the breakfast hall. (Laura made tea with cream again, hee hee) The train journey was a long one somewhere near six and a half hours... we started in a compartment with some Canadians but where moved on after Hanover as suddenly most seats became reserved. The train journeys themselves are really beautiful i think. Berlin is HUGE and i mean massive, the ... read more

Today was Heide-Park.... and it was pretty darn sweet! We met at the school at 8 and departed on a very nice charter bus for the 45 minute trip south to the park. The weather was pretty good really, overcast and around 70 with no real rain. The park itself was much bigger and more elaborate than I had imagined. You can view the park web site here : . Just click on the Union Jack on the right for an English version. The park features several very impressive rollercoasters including the "Colossos" which has the steepest drop of any wooden rollercoaster in the world at 61 degrees as verified and recorded by the Guiness Book of World Records. The brand new "Desert Racer" begins by accelerating from 0 to 60 in 2.4 seconds before throwing ... read more

Geo: 52.5235, 13.4115 Gün 18 Günlerden Salı Kennedy, müthiş popülizmi ile, Berlin yerine Hamburg ta konuşsaydı. "Ben bir Hamburgerim" diyecek miydi ? Hep merak ederim.... Anlaşı... read more

After weeks of solo travel I finally have my travel companion as my sister arrived this morning. Her flight was delayed two hours for weather, so I had a nice morning sitting in the airport, reading, and anxiously waiting to see not only a familiar face but a deeply loved family member I don't get to see nearly enough of. Now I am sitting in the bar area of the small hostel in Heidelberg after training from Frankfurt and walking around the town, trying to keep Laura awake to ease the jet lag that is sure to set in eventually. Her presence has already payed dividends as Laura found a delicious (and cheap!) indian restaurant where we sampled tandori masala (chicken stewy stuff over rice) and samosa (fried triangle appetizer things) and mango lasi (basically a ... read more

Vom 10.

by anna (and david) June 4th-10th WARNING! This is the best entry yet, and, after this, I doubt there will be one to top it! First, between Berlin and Munich. After Berlin we were meeting our friends David and Kristi, and their bub Finn ("the Hetheringtons"), for some time in Munich. In between, we had a couple of days to explore another part of Germany. I was keen to explore one of the German wine regions and in my research discovered the most practical way for us to fulfil this ambition was to explore the "romantic road", a route winding through a number of picturesque villages north of Munich and claiming some of Germany's wine production. To achieve our goal, we flew from Berlin to Munich where we picked up a car to drive north to ... read more
