Not actually a whole lot to report today actually, unless anyone is interested in the details of a very long and unexciting train ride between Prague and Berlin! We had breakfast early on and left the hotel at half past nine to get the subway to Holesovice...which I have to say is the worst major train station I have ever been to. I know it isn't Prague's main train station, but for a city that is used by interrailers as much as this is, they really need to think about sorting it out. It's basically an underground cave, and about as organised as Newcastle United during the transfer window. Platform announcements aren't made until roughly thirty seconds before the train is due, and with nowhere to sit, there is nothing to do but crowd together under ... read more

Me and Stuart had finally got the first good night sleep in a long while, so we were ready so a full on day of sight seeing and generally being tourists. Now Berlin is huge and there was so much to see and do we just didn't quite know where to start. So we picked decided to go for the Reichstag and Checkpoint Charlie. Excitedly we clambered aboard the metro and headed off into the centre. We got off at the muesum park which ran along the river, which was surround by huge glass buildings and absailing window cleaners! The Reichstag itself was a beautiful majestic building overlooking a long luscious lawn, it was amazing. As we got closer we noticed that the que meandered all the way down the stairs and onto the green! So ... read more

Somehow, around 2 in the morning, I'm in a Brazilian bar in Frankfurt, Germany with a bunch of guys from Ireland and Philadelphia. How the hell did this happen??.... After being on study tour for 2 weeks with St. Joe's, some of us decided to hang around in Europe for a little bit longer. Most of the group went out skiing in Austria, another went to Spain, and I went to London to visit a friend of mine (see very first blog entry!) One of the caveats of staying extra was that since we flew Luftansa over to Germany to begin our trip, we had to fly Luftansa back to the U.S. out of Frankfurt when we returned. Everyone was ok with this, but we all decided collectively as a group that we would all return ... read more

Hey hey everyone! Greetings from Dublin...it has been quite awhile since my previous blog entry. I apologize for seemingly falling off the face of the earth but I have been pretty busy in this past month or so HAVING THE TIME OF MY LIFE!! The weekend of 27 June-30 June I visited Berlin, Germany to see my friend Jacqui who was studying german in Mayen for the past six or weeks or so. She was finishing her stay by spending about a week in the capital city of Berlin and I, thinking that I also wanted to see Berlin, thought it was a perfect opportunity to run into a friend as well as go to a place I have always wanted to visit. My interest in going to a country in which I can't speak a ... read more

I think that filling everyone in on today's events would be prudent as I am without any doubt that there will be plenty to share from our impending trip to Lübeck. So, here goes... Today was the las day of school for the students of Hanhoopsfeld. As such, the students were a bit excited and ready to get out of there. This being said, they were engaged and interested as our brilliant students presented their PowerPoint presentations. Presentations on American sports and Halloween were amazing! From there, Heidi and I took our kids to our favorite local Gellateria for some eis. The group of students proceeded from there to downtown Harburg for tooth piercing and a bit of light shopping. Heidi and I had to go back and attend the teachers buffet in honor of the ... read more

Hello everyone!!! Weve been in Berlin for like a week now and its so fun! The FIRST thing that happend to us in Berlin before we even got to our Hostel was that we got a fucking ticket!! Actually, we EACH got tickets...fines that cost us 40 euros each!! This dummy at the train station gave us the impression that we could use our eurail passes for public transport, so off we go on to a train, and then to a metro station and as soon as we got on, we got in trouble. They took us off the metro and wrote us up and took down our passport numbers and home addresses and everything and told us we had five days to go down to the station and explain what happend so we could try ... read more

Sorry I got cut off...anyway, the haufbrauhaus was even better than we expected...an oooompah band played hits all night and the halls were filled with drunken americans and japanese tourist groups (honestly, the bathrooms here smelled worse than any other that we have utilized). The next morning, we got up at around 9am to the sound of pouring rain (the area outside of the tent was complete mud) and headed out to our hostel, just around the corner from the main train station. Here we met up with our boy Rich (a ruffian university of Wisconsin grad student that we met up with in Prague who is basically on the same course as us)...we then boarded the two hour train to Fussen, a town southwest of Munich, in order to check out the famous Neuswanstein castle. ... read more

Simply stated, Munich has been awesome. Quite easily the best city that we have visited thus far! We arrived two days ago with Lionel Ritchie's "all night long" playing on my i-pod...looking back, I cannot help but laugh at the symobolism as this was about how long we stayed at the haufbrauhaus our first night!! (sadly, it closed at midnight). Anyway, after our arrival at the main station we headed out on the number 17 tram in order to find our lodging: "The Tent". Although EJ thought that we were going to sleep in the dirt, we were surprised to find that the circus tent that we would be sharing with 200 other people did in fact have wooden floors! Here we were given five blankets each to protect us from the pouring rain that pounded ... read more
