the railway between czecho-german border and Dresden was non-stop, the train was the older version of DB (the one runs to Prague was "so eastern-europe", it meant "old", haha), so i could opened half of the window, that's the first time in this journey, so late it came. the train run along the river, because it's non-stop for a long distance, the train accerlerated, i thought it had reached 180-200kmh. under this speed, by the river, it recalled my days in morsel in 2004, eventually i remember why i wanted to be here again. only by the speed and wind, could blowed everything away, that's what i was looking for so long. on board i finished reading more that 10 pages of "the lord of the rings", good. url=http://www.y... read more

We had a late start in the morning as we actually had a bit of a sleep in!! We said goodbye to our American friends as they were headed off to Prague, and we went into the city to go for another wonder. We went to the old church in the middle of town which was once a huge cathedral. It was bombed in WWII and only a very small portion remains today and they left it in this state to show what war can do. The windows are still totally blown away and its quite sad to see so much of the cathedral as well as many other landmarks where destroyed due to the war. You can still see bullet holes and schrapnel marks in some walls and columns around the city. From there we ... read more

So I arrived in Berlin after getting off at the wrong Berlin stop and then checking the schedule and getting on a train which claimed to go where I needed to go and having all the German's tell me I was wrong. I ended up calling my couchsurfing host, Thomas, and he devised this whole plan, when in the end, all the German travellers were wrong and I was right, the train stopped at the main station after all. Right when I made it to Alexanderplatz to meet Thomas, it began to pour. We ran through the huge droplets to the car and by the time we arrived we were both soaking wet.... read more

As my title suggests I know now the entire public transport system and can navigate my well around the greater Berlin area on my own very well. As I have not updated very recently this will be quite a large post. Tuesday the 13th: I headed out early in the morning to Berlin by myself. I saw Alexander Platz, the Berliner Dom, Pergamon Museum, Bradenburger Tor (and the huge soccer ball that is currently in front of it), the Riechstag, the Jewish memorial and Potsdamer Platz. I got a feel for the city and spent a lot of time just wandering and laying in the many parks that dot the city. Berlin is so green because during the time of the wall, many parks were made and trees were put up in order to distract residents ... read more

We got up early this morning and caught the bus into town with our new American friends Dustin and Emily and met up with our group at Zoo station. The tour guide was actually an American as well, but had German parents and grew up speaking German. He is currently studying history at the Berlin Uni and has been living in the city for the past 6 years, so we were able to forgive his American accent. The walking tour was fantastic. It went for about 4 hours all around the city and he gave us some great insights on the city's history. We saw sights like the TV Tower - where the East Berliners tried to show their technological dominance over the West, only to need to get Swedish contractors in to actually do the ... read more

I made it to Berlin. I took the night train from Paris to Berlin which was very pleasent, but wouldn't have been half as nice if I didn't have a private sleeper (thank you Mom). But by not paying attention, I missed my stop and had to figure out how to take the Sbahn back to my original stop. I arrived half an hour late and Steffi and I found eachother with both of us on the verge of tears. We then spent the after noon walking around Berlin, sightseeing (checkpoint Charlie, etc). The day before yesterday and zesterday were spent at the local festivle here in Bernau. They celebrate a midievil battle in which the people of Bernau beat the Hueseten. It was great with a parade with handmade costumes and horses and beer carts, ... read more

Guten tag my friends! Actually after just writing that I've experienced a blank on whether or not that really is the word for hello in German....oh well, lets just say it is! Okay, before I tell you about Berlin, I have to send out a huge sincere apology to the country of Belarus, as we completely missed it out of our blog, even though we stopped there for a night. So anyway, better tell you a bit about it, since nobody has ever heard of it, including us til we got there. Belarus used to be part of Russia, I think it was only in the 90's that it became recognised as a seperate country. Its currently run by a president who is said to be 'europes last dictator' not on the scale of hitler of ... read more

Day 63 - June 7 - GERMANY - Berlin Accommodation: Odyssee Globetrotter Hostel My first night train in Europe and it was quite comfy, although I’ve heard those Germans are pretty efficient. I had to share a bunk bed with 5 other people, although I got on the train about 11pm and it was pretty quiet and a smooth trip so I actually slept pretty well. We came into the Berlin outer suburbs about 8am and I got my gear ready to go. I found out from my hostel website that I only had to go one more train station after getting off the night train to get to my hostel stop, and then it was only a 10 minute walk along a main road. It was a pretty nice hostel too. I hadn’t planned a ... read more

This will be a quick blog since we haven´t kept up with this very well and we have a lot to say. So, where did we leave off...oh yeah. We went back to Berlin from Brussels. Did I say that I love that place. The boys came in to meet up with all of us. Nate and Dave came in soon followed by Clint. Soon after their arrival the debauchery began. The agenda soon became clear. Beer, girls and the kind of fun that spawns great stories! Pretty much in that order. We also carried a football around (that´s an American football byGod) everywhere we went. We would go out for passes walking down the streets of Germany. There was also a game of touch football played on the very grounds where the Nazis ordered a ... read more
