6/6/07: Now it's just me, Teresa, going to Spanish school and traveling around Honduras!
Travel Blog Posts
Well, we are traveling again. We have gone on a few things here and there and basically forgot that we had this travel blog. Oops :) Ella made her way up to Nashville with her Grandpops and she's going to spend a week at her grandparents' house getting spoiled rotten! We love you Ella! I had a harder time leaving my precious baby girl than she did leaving her mommy. We are in New Orleans eating as much Creole food we can stuff in our tummies and soaking up as much NOLA culture as we can get. We love this place so much. We've never flown in only driven in the past, and it was pretty amazing to see the Mighty Mississip snake its way through the terrain. It made me want to pick up a ... read more
It´s lucky 7-7-7. Loco! Well, my time here in La Ceiba is winding down. I´m leaving Monday on a bus to San Pedro Sula. I´m going to spend the night there and pick Chance up at 11 the next morning when he comes in. I´m so excited! I have never anticipated the arrival of anyone like I´m anticipating Chance´s arrival. It´s amazing how much I miss my husband. I wasn´t able to sleep last night because I had the-night-before-the-first-day-of-school jitters. I´m also getting a bit sad. I had my last class of español yesterday and afterwards when I was saying my goodbyes I got teary-eyed. I didn´t think I was going to be this sad but tomorrow is going to be hard. I feel like I have just gotten comfortable with my surroundings, my español is ... read more
I´m at an internet place making some calls so I thought I´d blog a little. We took the kiddos to the Butterfly museum. They were so excited! They were really in to it and paid very close attention to everything about the presentation that was given. They were able to play with large rhinocerous beetles, tarantulas and huge grasshoppers all indengenous to Honduras. It was so cool to teach them about all the insects that are found in their country. It gave them a sense of pride. Very rewarding. I´ve tried to post pictures but it´s just not going to happen. I finally found a place where I can insert the CD and attach a picture but it takes over 3 mintues per picture. No thanks. I´ll post them all when I get home. Don´t worry ... read more
So, we tried to hook up a cheap ride to a group of islands off the coast of Honduras that are inbetween here and the major Bay Islands of Roatán, Utila and whatever the name of the other one is. The name of the keys that we were trying to get to are called Cayos Cuchinos. Cayos is the word for keys and I´ve been told that Cuchinos means just that Cuchinos. I need to read a bit on their history to get the real answer but that´s what the locals tell me. On the morning we were supposed to go, Saturday, we couldn´t get a hold of our ride to get us to the boat so we weren´t able to get there. It´s apparently a little expensive to get out there and it´s pretty exclusive. ... read more
I can´t believe it´s already the 22nd. Time is flying by! I´m getting used to my surroundings. I found a place to make a photo cd but I haven´t found a computer that will allow me to post the photos. Oh how I miss certain things that are so easy to do in the States. I also miss the food. It´s pretty much tortillas, refried beans, rice and some kind of meat here in ol´ Honduras. It gets pretty boring after a bit. It´s not India in that aspect. I started school on Monday afternoon. Dennis is my teacher and we are basically reviewing all the fun stuff like conjugating but inbetween the lessons he stops and tells me stories about his life or his friends. All in Spanish of course. So, I can say that ... read more
La Ceiba RobertsonI made it to La Ceiba last night. It took forever to get here. By the time I got off the bus I was aching and ready to stand up for a bit. I was picked up by one of my professors and taken to my new home for the next 4 weeks. I´m staying with abuelos (grandparents) and their grandkids are on summer break so they are there too. Their names are Mary and Guierrmo. They also have a housekeeper, which is normal for families that can afford them. They basically become part of the family. The Meyers had one as well who had the most beautiful little 2 year old I´ve ever seen, Jennifer. It makes me feel a little weird because I don´t know what I should do myself and ... read more
So, we've been in Zamorano since Wednesday. I couldn't pick that from the drop down menu of cities that I could chose from...it's pretty small and it's mostly an agriculture school with a little town around it. The campus is actually its own self sufficient little town with homes, a pool, a church, a bank, a clinic, a grocery store and all the areas of study for the students and the professors. This is where my parents worked after they were done with Peace Corp. They were both teachers here. It's been pretty amazing to meet some of the people from back then that are still around. I remembered a few people and I surprised everyone since the last time I saw them was when I was 5 years old. It was pretty cool to hear ... read more
Yojoa Robertson¡Feliz cumpleaños a ti! ¡Feliz cumpleaños a ti! ¡Feliz cumpleaños a Chance! ¡Feliz cumpleaños a ti! Feliz cumpleaños mi amor. Me hace falta mucho. Tu eres mi corazon. I'm starting to write in spanish in my journal. I'll probably end up blogging in spanish as well. How exciting! We stayed 2 nights at this place called D y D bed and breakfast and microbrewery. It was very secluded. You have to set out for a journey to really get anywhere. The place is very self sufficient and it has a pool! Oth yeah! We spent the first day chilling out since we travelled for a good amount of time from Copan on a bus to San Pedro. In San Pedro we had to find the central bus station and find a bus called El ... read more
Copan Ruinas RobertsonWe got to Copan Ruinas which is the name of the little village right next to the ruins. There is a town called Copan that's a little bit away that was a bit confusing since that's not where you stay if you want to see the ruins. The village is small and beautiful. The book says it has cobbled streets but it's not what you think of cobbled. It's more like streets made out of random stones here and there. Pretty uneven but cobbled, I guess. You can walk anywhere you want but there are some things that you want to take a little taxi to since it's at the top of a huge hill or side of a mountain like the bird santuary that we went to. The little taxis in this ... read more
Here at last RobertsonOk, so I´m going to try this again. I blogged yesterday (this is the 9th) but the internet crashed right when I was publishing my blog. We are now in San Pedro Sula. We are staying in a hostal called E y N. My mom was upset when she heard it was a hostal but I assured her it wasnt a normal one. (it´s hard to hit the apostrophe). We got there after a very nice and what I thought wasnt a long bus ride until I rode it. here are some things that made it interesting: the bus driver played the radio but at times he either had a futbal game playing at top volume or there was just static. It basically tried our patience. The people infront of us layed ... read more
