I have never made so many cookies in my life. I spent all of Friday baking. Now let me set the scene a little for you. Will has the smallest oven I have ever seen. It is smaller than his microwave. There is one shelf and a normal baking tray does not fit. I baked cookies on some strangely small cake pan...6 at a time. That's right folks, 16 dozen cookies, baked 6 at a time. It does in fact get better. Have you ever shopped for ingredients at a French supermarche? It is not easy. We probably spent 30 minutes looking for baking powder and the closes molasses is probably in Canada. And I forgot about the little measurement differences between the US and the rest of the world. The rest of the world breaks ... read more

Last month in Dijon Well, what a month december was, it jsut seemed to fly by for me. Everything was potential last time things to do in Dijon. People were gradually leaving to return home. And above all Christmas Hype started to hit, the christmas lights were turned on, might ahve already mentioned this... the ice rink opened and everyone started to feel festive. The past couple of weeks have been even more hectic though as we've had exams to study for as well as doing all my christmas shopping, finding gifts for my flatmates as well as some friends from ESC. Exam study went well... it wasnt very productive though as me adn Paige spent most of our study time in Grand Cafe... we started with coffee and then graduated to Monacos (pink beer!) so ... read more

This past weekend I went to Angers, France to visit my friend Nissa. She’s studying abroad there for a semester. I was a little nervous about going, considering that I don’t speak a word of French, but most everyone I spoke to during the trip spoke English, which surprised me. People here keep telling me that English is the universal language (and it is a required course in many countries) but it just seems strange to me. Maybe because I never had to learn a language as a requirement, it seems odd that other people would have to learn English. Speaking of that, I’ve had several requests from people here to practice English. So, France was fantastic. It was great to see Nissa and just experience a different culture (though I was only there for ... read more

Justin’s Travel Journal I have been traveling in Europe the last six months. It was very interesting. I saw many things of historical interest as well as really cool stuff. The food in some countries was good, especially Italy and in other countries like Hungary it was not so great. The best part about my trip was gong to the water parks in different parts of Europe, like Aqua Blvd in Paris and Park Wodny in Krakow. The not so great part about my trips was the long car rides. They seemed like they were every other day and totally boring. Tower of London (June 21-25, 2007) When I went to London I visited the Tower of London. I think it was a great place to go because I learned lots about it. The London ... read more

Short Break As I write this, I’m gazing out of the kitchen window at bushes being thrashed by wind and rain, wondering what it’s like down on the Med. I could be at our local airport within half an hour, boarding a plane and flying in over the palm trees at Nice airport by teatime. Dream on! But maybe the idea of a short break in this lovely old city isn’t so far-fetched after all. There’s an abundance of self catering apartment ; it’s so easy to check availability of accommodation on the Internet these days. Nice has long been the destination of travellers seeking to escape the English winter. The largest resort and capital of the Cote d’Azur, its attractions include the Old Quarter, a daily flower market, restaurants, museums, Roman remains, and Carnival ... read more

Ditch the car What bliss! A week or fortnight if you’re really lucky - of getting around without the need to jump behind a steering wheel. No sitting in traffic jams on the way to work, or fighting your way back home through rush-hour chaos; it’s a great chance to wean yourself off the car. One of the many joys of a self-catering skiing holiday is finding everything you need right on your own doorstep; the geographical location of most purpose-built modern resorts means they have to be highly self-sufficient and while the downside of this is that supplies must be shipped up mountain valleys by the lorry-load, it reconnects us with a time when life was conducted at a more leisurely pace. Our forbears planned their housekeeping on a daily basis. Love or hate this ... read more

Last blog before Christmas and I finally went up on the slopes for the first time on Sunday. It was -12 degrees up there, practiced on some easy greens as its 3 winters since I was last on my snowboard. Was a bit rusty and kept falling over but cheered up on Sunday night as we found a bar serving roast dinners so we went for le ros bif! Safe to say it’ll be a white Christmas here, the festivities began this week with our office party on Tues night. Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, some festive music, dodgy shots and secret santa ! I received a new hat and ear warmers, as modelled by myself and Rosy in the photos. Jim next to me received a bottle of potent green cactus drink so everyone ... read more

All set for champagne. Ooh not so easy. From the moment I touched down in Paris I knew I was in trouble. The girl at the info counter was aloof & unfriendly. Finally made my way to the train station and asked about getting a ticket to reims, champagne. Was told that it would be a 2 hr wait, so try to kill time at a freezing cold cafe (no heater). At 4.45 I decided to ask which platform I would have to take the 5.27pm train from, only to be told that I had to make my way to Paris to take the train to reims. PANIC!!!! Anyway what followed in the next hr was possibly the WORST time I've had on my trip so far. It involved lugging my 25kg bag up & down ... read more
