Going to Paris in 2 weeks for a friends party - need a fun, lively area to be in near to Gare de Nord. And of course a hotel/hostel nearby.

A couple of us are tagging along with a 'superstar' dj friend as he plays a gig in Paris and I need some recommendations from you lot - good bars/ cafes/streets hotels - for a weekend.

Nothing romantic, more parisian street life and cool areas!

We're arriving on eurostar so places nearish to Gare de Nord please

Thanks

Go to the Marais! It's one of the best places to be!

The 18th is really pretty (Montmartre is there), but it's outside the centre and I wouldn't really suggest it, you would always have to travel by public transport, around 20-25 minutes. The place you're talking about is actually quite close to the Marais (11th arr.). My tip is the 4th arr., something close to the Pompidou. Then you're really close to anything you wish, and the 4th itself is full of bars and pubs (many gay).

Another cool area, is the Latin Quarter, very lively!

I'm going to Paris time by time and can only agree with others that Marais would be the one to enjoy for you! Love that place.

Yeah it was nice - stayed near Oberkampf area - you can walk to most important spots and cabs are pretty cheap.
Nice bar called kitch bar on Ober with savage mojitos. Some good french-packed bars in the side streets with busy terraces.
Not a patch on London, New York or Berlin i'm afraid though.
