Today the full invasion of Ukraine by Russia has started.
I guess this will have big effects on travelling to this region in the next future.
I still have a Lufthansa ticket to Kyiv in juni and a booking for the Zarengold trans siberian railway in july.
So until today I was always thinking positive about these trips, but now I guess they are not possible any more.
Hopefully NATO countries will not be affatected now or in the future as this could lead to a world war.
Who else of our community is affected?
Reply to this Hi Thomas. Sorry your trip will be postponed. In Australia we are not directly effected by Putin's venture into Ukraine but we are keeping a close eye on China who is supporting him. We believe that, if he succeeds, China will invade Taiwan and this has big ramifications for our part of the world.
Reply to this In response to: Msg #209607 Hi John and Sylvia, I am absolutely aware of the Taiwan topic. I learnt Chinese at university and was twice in the mainland and (no joke) I want to visit the island soon. I is a nice and secure country if I want to reach 100 visited countries somewhen. I read that the PRC air force flew several times into ROC air space and the communists are increasing their military. I see where this could lead to but a destroyed Taiwan is not as useful to Beijing as an intact. I also heard about the new AUKUS pact and Germany just sent a frigate to East Asia and I already knew when I started learning Chinese that China will have a great future. Thomas
Reply to this Thanks, Thomas. Sadly it is not about country. Both Putin and Xhi are about personal status. They don't care about people as long as they think they look good and heroic.
Reply to this I have read your question about "effects on traveling to Russia and Ukraine due to war". Travel to Eastern Europe has been transmitting their situations about flying in the forthcoming week. Travel to countries that don't border Ukraine being affected by the Russian invasion so far. Trip to both of the nations is affected due to Russia and Ukraine's ongoing situation and Covid-19 and other factors.
