With 6 days to explore Alsace, and only a couple of definites on my list of things to do, I found myself with a bit of indecision this morning. Combined with general laziness, I didn’t get going today until after midday. In the end, I decided to drive a bit of the Routes des Vins (Road of Wine) and visit the castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg which overlooks many of the vineyards. My first stop was a village near my hotel, Dambach-la-Ville, to get some petrol. It was only the first time I had filled up the car since the first day on the way to Würzburg. So I’m pretty happy with the fuel economy of the C4! Filling up wasn’t as easy as it could have been because the petrol station was pay-at-the-pump which was in French. ... read more

At this morning's gathering onboard the River Rhapsody somewhere in France, we happily learned that we would have half a day in Strasbourg, far too little a time, but at least we would get there on this trip. Busses arrived to remove us from Breisach am Rhein to take us to Strasbourg. I was not the only one who was elated by this news. The journey took an hour and a half; instead of an orientation walk we toured the city by open canal boat, reminiscent of the canal boats in Amsterdam. This was fun and informative; I usually prefer to explore on foot, but certainly not following behind some of the very very slow elders who are on this tour. It took at least a quarter hour for our group to board a canal boat, ... read more

Rain on and off during the night but no more thundery storm and when we woke in the morning (at 5.30 as the birds start early and loud round here) the rain had stopped and everything soon dried off. The forecast was for a pretty rainy day probably with more thunder. We got sunshine, blue sky and 3 lots of rain….12 drops a time. First stop Super U while it was still dry (!) to do a bit of a top up. Decidedly more expensive here than in Germany but nice to get some of my French favourites such as soft walnut cheese. Back to Tandy for a salad and baguette (first of the trip as Germany = bread rolls). Sun back out, sky bright blue and no rain imminent so had a quick Google and ... read more

Another treat of a day out and Kisbee was raring to go. Sky cornflower blue and sun already hot as we set off well before 10am. An easy ride, only 20 km from the campsite. Stopped once to photograph some storks and big grey herons who were grazing on one particular field. At Chatenois Tomtom directed us along a right turn. Now all I can say is Tomtom did not know we were on Kisbee, a two wheel scooter when she sent us along what was virtually a dirt track through a vineyard. If we had been in our 7 metre Tandy Tomtom would have been smacked and then sacked. Kisbee enjoyed the bumpy track (!) and at the end of it we picked up the normal road up to Chateau Haut-Koenigsbourg. The 5km road up ... read more

Well, have to say I was a little unsure about touring Germany, quality of campsites etc etc but now we are moving on and to France, I am very sorry to be leaving. Have enjoyed every moment so far of our trip and Germany has excelled itself in many way not least the wonderful scenery and buildings and the general air of neatness everywhere. The people are exceedingly friendly with us too. Off to a reasonable start but not far to drive today. Headed west and a little bit North (still not sure about that as compass inexplicably refuses to give the correct reading if it is in contact with Tandy’s body ever since the little thunderstorm the other night and despite several attempts by Bob to recalibrate it). No motorways today just good country roads. ... read more

Short stay in Strasbourg Taxi to the train station was way cheaper than the reverse trip from the train station, didn't get charged for luggage for a start and base charge was under 30 francs, proves we had a rip off artist originally. Our train tickets didn't have carriage or seat numbers and we had heaps of time so decided to check it out with the ticket office, turns out our connecting train from Basil to Strasbourg had been cancelled, nice of someone to advise us! Fortunately the gentleman who served us was excellent and he sorted out a new connection which departed less than an hour later than the original one and explained that the station in Basel was undergoing renovation and our train would leave from a platform that was not part of the ... read more

Geride kalan ekabir takımı saat 09:00 a doğru kendine geldi. Efendim bu günün en önemli aktivitesi Fransız şarap yolunun incisi sayılan Colmar ‘ın ziyareti. Düşünün ki Ayşe bile ilk kez sevgili gemisini terk ederek Colmar ‘ı ziyaret etme kararını aldı. Day 3 – Les Islettes to St Croix en Plein What a cold night! It was somewhat unexpected and hard to believe that it is April. The wind even chilled the sheets on the bed making them cool to the touch. We shivered all night under our bedclothes. Even in the morning with the heating on in Suzy we shivered. We were woken up to the sound of birdsong coming from the trees in the wood next door. The church bells rang out. All our neighbours were abed as we drove away from our little idyll to head for our next port of call St Croix en Plein. Close to Colmar we had been in this area before. The journey was relatively painless and uneventful. Being a Sunday the lorries were parked up for the day ... read more
