So everyone, nearly all 40 Carthago owners motorhomes have left Hillerod it seems so its goodbye to Andrew, Joan and now Barrie and Chris who have gone on to Sweden. That means we are on our own with no place to go. But the three couples are all in touch and all I can say is what a fabulous time we have had with all four of them - more Carthago chums adventures to be had in due course. So after a bit of internet searching I thought I had found a great place for us to stop, near a fjord, so really looking forward to doing this and you cannot go to Denmark and not stay near a fjord surely. After a nice journey which once again I navigated although Mr Mike wanted the Sat ... read more

A long awaited vacation to the cool Nordics was up on the cards and in the midst of a precocious Dallas summer we flew to London to catch a connecting flight to Copenhagen. It was 2 years since the pandemic and 2 weeks since Biden declared ease in flying restrictions but there was no ease transiting London Heathrow! Difficult staff at Security check and paranoid BA policies on carry on baggage made Americans the cool dudes by comparison! Denmark welcomed us with showers and a cool drizzle. There was a chill in the air and it was time to pull out the jackets! We took the metro from the airport towards our Airbnb on Stroget, the Champs-Elysee of Copenhagen and one of the world’s first ‘all pedestrian and biker only street' -- home to top brand ... read more

This is supposed to be a group of people who know what they are doing, well I can tell you this is not the case, even though most are retired and long standing motorhomers’. So Andrew and Joan had brought a rotary clothes dryer. So both mike and I set ours up really easily within 2 seconds. It is a Lakeland one (other suppliers are available) - but could we put Andrew’s and Joan’s up, not a bloody chance. We also got lots of other Carthago owners to help and once again how many carthago owners does it take to put a rotary dryer up, well all I can say it is not enough. We decide to go into Copenhagen which is a lovely city. We decide that we will buy a Copenhagen pass which gives ... read more

Well day 2 and 3 of being in Europe was firstly in the fantastic site in the Netherlands that I spoke about last time and now we are in Germany. Mind you it appears from the site we were in first we could have walked into Germany which would have been an experience that we could say we walked from the Netherlands to Germany, ha ha it sounds good and do not have to say it was less than a mile. So we follow the Sat Nav which you all know Mike loves and guess what less than 3 miles in and there is a road block and you guessed it the Sat Nav did not pick it up and wanted to take us around in circles. So guess what the trusty map came back with ... read more

The title is not actually true, I just wanted to appear literary by quoting Shakespeare. It’s quite the opposite really, we’ve found it all but rotten and have really enjoyed our short stopover here. The apartment is in a great spot (perhaps not vertically) and we’ve really enjoyed being in the heart of such a walkable and relaxed city. Yesterday’s adventures were guided by Geoff (under some suspicion by the girls) and we visited Christianborg where the royal family used to reside. It’s been their lodging place since the city was founded in the 1000s or so, so there are some ruins underneath, but they’re currently running an exhibition of medieval and renaissance monsters and their symbolism and connection to emotions. It was supposed to be ‘for kids’ but we all thought it was great and ... read more

Exploring the Traditional Fishing Village of Dragør Founded in the 12th century as a fishing village,it was used as a fishing port for centuries. It has a Dutch influence because the Danish king invited Dutch farmers to live in the area to supply food for the royal family in the 16th century. The Dutch were more agriculturally advanced than the Danish, and they actually introduced carrots to Denmark! It was a bit misty to see the bridge connecting Denmark to Sweden but Emma was able to show a picture on her phone. As we passed the fisherman’s shacks and the harbour we heard how the fishermen in Dragør helped save the Danish jews during the WWII. One of the small fishing boats used has been restored and sits in the harbour as a permanent memory. The ... read more

Some how my normal body alarm still worked in a different time zone. Despite the late into the night honking and cheering as a result of the Denmark soccer game win, I was wide awake at 7am. It took Alex about another hour to stir so I did some online research for what we would do today. Once Alex was up and we both were showered, we headed down to the lobby for a pleasant breakfast. The hotel had a fun mix of fresh fruits, pastries, hot foods, and cold meats & cheeses. With the beautiful temperature outside, we ate it on their back patio. After a quick trip back to the room for our items and to fill our water bottles, we took off to explore. I snagged us some day metro passes to shuttled ... read more

Unfortunately our flight left Dallas late putting us in to Amsterdam an hour and a half later than planned and put us at risk of missing the connection to Copenhagen unless it was delayed. I made sure we were packed and moving as soon as that aircraft door opened. We were lucky in that the AMS airport didn't dump you into a customs hall immediately after deplaning so we power walked our way across the airport. We may not have been the absolute worst gate pair connection in the airport but it was close. We went from the far end of G through the mall of an airport through a respectably short customs queue to the departure gate at the far end of D. It was at a minimum a mile walk. Glistening we rushed up ... read more

I blame this whole trip on a mixture of Covid 19 and one of the AA Cargo Directors. Despite working for American Airlines for 3 years already, Alex and I have done limited international travel despite that being what we were both most excited to use or flight benefits for. COVID resulted in our London-Ireland trip being cancelled in April 2020 as well as our Japan trip in April 2021. Needless to say, the itch to travel was very real by this June so I kept one ear open for a chance to go ANYWHERE international. Then luck would have it, two weeks before the 4th of July weekend I heard from a voice passing by my desk at work that Amsterdam was on the "Best Bets" list. The country would be opening up to US ... read more
