Last night when we went to bed the temperature was above freezing and all the snow had melted. For the first time since we arrived on January 20th the ground was completely bare. "Well, the snow is gone for this year" That was the thought both of us had. In fact, that was what everyone was thinking, at least everyone we talked to yesterday. When I, Bill, woke this morning Nancy said, "Look out the window. You will be surprised." So I looked out the window and what did I see? Snow!!! Lots of SNOW and more was coming down. I suppose that in Montana's understanding of the word I cannot call it a blizzard, but it was not the soft, gentle snow I have seen so often here the past two winters. As the morning ... read more

We were walking along a street in downtown Prague and Nancy noticed a hat shop. So we stopped to have a look at both the hats for ladies and for men. I must say there were very nice hats for both genders. I, Bill, pointed out one for men and asked Nancy how I would look in it. "Not so good," was her reply. "You mean I would not look like a erudite and sophisticated European gentleman?" To her credit Nancy did not roll on the floor laughing, but she left little doubt that a sophisticated hat does not make Bill an erudite and sophisticated European. Oh well ................ Sarah, enjoy the hats. Shoes may come later. ... read more

Bad Luck with Hostels: In the hostel I stayed at in Vienna I had bugs in my bed though these bugs I could see so the second night I slept at the feet of Rita’s bed. Or tried to sleep. If it was just a couple small bugs I wouldn't of minded but there were many of them and some were black and when I tried to kill them they wouldn't die. But at least these bugs didn't bite. Lauren had some bugs in her bed to but we were the only ones. The second morning I woke up at the hostel in Poland I had red bumps all over me. I thought it was an allergic reaction to something. Lauren was staying at the same hostel and had some bumps but not as bad as ... read more

Well, my last trip to Europe did not work out due to the illness of my travel partner, and a variety of other things. Soooooo......I am trying again. This time with an old friend, and travel buddy. We will leave next Thursday for Europe. Kris will fly into Munich, and I will fly into Frankfurt. We will then either fly Ryanair, or take a train into Austria. After meeting up there......we will begin our 'journey'. We have purchased an Eastern Eurorail ticket that covers Austria, Poland, Czech., Slovakia, and Hungary. I am sooooooooo excited. It's been much too long since I've been across the BIG POND. It's late now, so better bring this to a close. Will write more as the time draws near. Look out Europe.....here we come~!... read more

We never know what we are going to see next. This morning Nancy and I went to a part of Prague that we had not visited before, and probably would never visit, except that Wednesday Nancy is to go there to see a dentist. She does not have a dental problem. Rather she wants to see if she can have a tooth guard made here more inexpensively than at home. Actually it is a given that if it can be made here it will be less expensive. Her old one is about worn out. Using the Internet yesterday we found the location using one of the map services so readily available online. Today we were surprised at how easy it was to find the office. It is not on a main street. In fact, it is ... read more

Every Wednesday the seminary provides a van and a driver to take people grocery shopping. We always go to the Delvita grocery store. Why? Because it is the closest one. Life is simple. Last year, while here, I looked at the Delvita logo and thought, "That lion sure looks familiar." Then I realized it is the same lion that Food Lion uses in the states? I wondered if there were a connection. Yes, there is. Delvita and Food Lion are owned by the same parent company. The owner may be the same, but the groceries stocked in the stores are quite different. Considering the two cultures are quite different this is not surprising. For instance the canned vegetable section here takes up about five shelves ... not five sections of selving, but five shelves. Czechs are ... read more

I have seen so many films lately its awesome! Yesterday I saw 5 and Saturday I saw about 10. There is an international film festival in Prague this week called One World. Some of the films are so depressing but it is interesting to here what is going on in the rest of the world. They also showed the films that were up for best documentary at the Oscars on Saturday night till 3am. I didn't stay the whole time though. The film that hit me the most was called "Coca - The dove from Chechnya". It was so heavy the whole time. It was about the murders that are happening in Chechnya and the conflicts. The film documents strong women trying to get human rights for the people. The main woman has been smuggling tapes ... read more

Geo: 49.8995, 14.9894We took a day trip to the city of Kutna Hora. This is a small town one hour east of Prague. Kutna Hora is know for two main things. The silver mines, were closed when we were there, and Ossuary Sedlec. The Ossuary Sedlec holds a graveyard chapel from the end of the 14th century, rebuilt in baroque style by J.Santini. Decorated entirely with human bones which were arranged into pyramids by a half-blind monk, as early as 1511. It holds the bones of 40,000 people. Well, how could we miss this.... read more
